Funny. I've never heard the term "post-punk" and I've been a fan of The Cult since the Love album and I always described them as a "gothic rock" band... goes to show what us losers in the Midwest know about music genres!
They came back around to the things that set them apart & made them great in the first place. Rick Rubin did the same thing with Danzig ( which was Samhain)… turned them into “ radio rock” bands aimed at a hit … for a time. Both bands quickly found their individual footing shortly after.
He pulled his white pick out of his pocket and gave it to me when I first met him. I use Fender pick, but I treasure the Dunlop pick that he gave me.

Too bad he ditched the Gretsch on Sonic Temple.
He didn't use it either on electric. He did use the gretsch a bit for overdubs on sonic temple
