  • Dona Gracia Mendes Nasi was a prominent 16th century businesswoman and philanthropist in areas spanning Southern Europe, first as a converso in Lisbon and Antwerp, and later as an openly practicing Jew in Italy and the Ottoman Empire.
    Successful in her own right, Nasi supported Jewish communities where she lived, assisted Jews in fleeing hostile territories, and attempted to establish a community in the Land of Israel. Watch through to hear more about he extraordinary life and work.

    I appreciate this video. Finding material about Dona is far too difficult, but I look forward to showing this material to my fifth-grade students.
