To take O'brien out when they are playing against Nankervis was a huge mistake by the crows and the coach wears that. If the crows didn't manage him then he was dropped for form reason. Strachan was not fit enough that was clear yet Nicks said he played well until injured. Strachan 13 hitouts Nankervis 43. Even if you double Strachan still well below Nankervis. Total hitouts Richmond 57 Adelaide 25. Thrashed in the ruck and clearances, end of game. Nicks has to go and his big supporter Richuito and reset again with a new development team. Sadly, no one at the crows has the balls to take action. A rebuild is designed to deliver success, that hasnt happened. Time for a clean out and change.

The problem is that they've got so many of their best players out injured and a bunch of their backups are also injured, so the team that's been taking field for the last couple of games is the weakest they've had since 2020. So to the commentators and people who don't follow the team closely it looks like they've got a terrible list and no hope for the future.

9 out of the best 22 out. Season is over, but have some perspective, the Crows depth is being tested right now. Season over, would not discount them from breaking a few hearts towards finals time.
There seems to be a disconnect between the crows players. When players make mistakes, the reactions of other players are not good and further exacerbate the problems. Too much panic in the side, and fear of making mistakes to play with the freedom required by the modern game. Collingwood last year were almost cult like with their love and unity between players, which was critical to their success. The literally started chipping the ball around in the dying stages of a grand final, which I think shows a level of composure that very few teams possess. They truly were a school of fish. The crows last night were the opposite. If they couldn’t handle the heat in that game then their mindset and composure will not stand up in a final. The modern game requires ice in the veins which the crows don’t have, although they have plenty of talent. Until there is a change in mindset at the club this won’t change. They don’t look like a brotherhood, rather a group of disconnected, yet talented players.
If you use paragraphs more people will read your comment. Adelaide players need on field direction, Collingwood when they have their good players on the field have a ton of direction. I agree it makes a huge difference, but Adelaide don't have a Pendles, a De Goey, a Howe, a Moore, a Mitchell, even a Sidebottom, and N Daicos has learnt from the best on how to give directions (still a work in progress). So, Adelaide is at best a 7 - 10 team, not that good really.
Just look at how competitive Collingwood are with the worst injury list in the AFL and you can see what a cohesive well-drilled unit they are. I'm a Hawks fan and you guys looked a bit disjointed last week and played pretty streaky football but let's see how the Crows turn it around in the second half of the season. It's really difficult when you start the season poorly, you couldn't afford another mid-season drop off. That loss to the Pies really looked to be season defining in hind sight. Rankine being out is massive, he's your best player. It's no wonder the Hawks fortunes have turned around drastically since will Day has been back. He's our B&F for a reason and literally transformed out midfield. He's our Bontempelli: tough, great mark, silky, can play inside and outside and kicks goals. We don't have anyone who can replace him. When you're at the bottom or the middle of the pack you have a few integral players that make you stand taller as a unit and when they're out the difference is noticeable. Only the top few sids can cover injuries to key injuries.

With Crouch and Tex also being out that means they were without their best two forwards and their best two midfielders (if you count Rankine twice in that list). I'd like to see the double midfield tag just to see whether it's feasible in 2024. Doubt it will happen but it would be an interesting experiment, particularly given that the Cats midfield has been so ineffectual the past 6 weeks, as Kingy mentioned. Not sure how taggable both Heeney and Warner are given they can both drift forward and jump on your head at any moment. But equally you can't let the Swans do as they please, especially at the SCG, so Scott needs to slow down something. So I'd probably go after Gulden and the Lizard if I was doing the double tag.
Blakey is really tough to tag. I go to every Swans home game and watching Lizard is exhausting even to watch! He gets so much separation from his opposite player, so quickly.
That's the problem with Gulden, Warner and Heeney, their burst speed is electric. Unless you're going to hold them at the contest and risk giving away frees there's not a lot you can do once they get going.
I am not anti-Nicks as the Crows have been a destination club for the last few years (Dawson and Rankine) where we were never before....so he must have brought the right vibe around the team, coaches and staff, but after 5-6 years at the helm it has shown that he is not up to being the Senior Coach that the club needs...no hate it's just what the facts are actually showing 33% win loss record is not going to keep you in a job....no different to any Manager that is not getting wins for the company that is employing him. There is a reason that we have not been able to snare a big fish player this year........no player from other teams can see a positive direction for the Crows. IMO the Crows need to go after a very experienced coach this time around as they have given new coaches a go for too long and the results just have not been there (exception for Phil Walsh as he appeared to be taking the Crows to the top for the long stay) Chris Scott would benefit from a change of scenery and the Crows would certainly benefit if they could snare a coach of his quality.....go get him....get serious about OUR Club...words are meaningless, actions show your commitment.

The only reason the blowtorch wasn’t fully on the Crows earlier this week after that poor loss to Hawthorn, was because of the fallout from the Demons loss. Hopefully now, the Crows face the intense media scrutiny they deserve to cop after another bad loss. They’re a bottom 4 side, have no sound game plan, and don’t have a great drafting history over the last 5-10 years. The list isn’t necessarily the problem, it’s Reid, Oligivy, Nicks, Olsen and co. When you have 4/5 out of your spine not playing and then your most X factor type player not playing the structure itself will suffer. Tex is 1-2 years away from being done but Fog, Thilthorpe and Welsh could potentially be a good tall forward set up. Cook can be the Hayward/Moore type, Rankine/Rachele/Pedlar will kick plenty of goals over time. Hopefully they can draft Sid Draper with their top pick, get in Welsh and a ruckman ideally. Worrell, Murray, Thilthorpe, Tex and Rankine are awfully important to help Dawson
Dowling will play every game now he’s finally in the team as another mid/wing/high half forward type. Curtin is the only other player who must play every game from here on out. Even if he leaves in 2-3 years they must actually see what he has at afl level not sanfl

If you use paragraphs more people will read your comment. Adelaide players need on field direction, Collingwood when they have their good players on the field have a ton of direction. I agree it makes a huge difference, but Adelaide don't have a Pendles, a De Goey, a Howe, a Moore, a Mitchell, even a Sidebottom, and N Daicos has learnt from the best on how to give directions (still a work in progress). So, Adelaide is at best a 7 - 10 team, not that good really.
Just look at how competitive Collingwood are with the worst injury list in the AFL and you can see what a cohesive well-drilled unit they are. I'm a Hawks fan and you guys looked a bit disjointed last week and played pretty streaky football but let's see how the Crows turn it around in the second half of the season. It's really difficult when you start the season poorly, you couldn't afford another mid-season drop off. That loss to the Pies really looked to be season defining in hind sight. Rankine being out is massive, he's your best player. It's no wonder the Hawks fortunes have turned around drastically since will Day has been back. He's our B&F for a reason and literally transformed out midfield. He's our Bontempelli: tough, great mark, silky, can play inside and outside and kicks goals. We don't have anyone who can replace him. When you're at the bottom or the middle of the pack you have a few integral players that make you stand taller as a unit and when they're out the difference is noticeable. Only the top few sids can cover injuries to key injuries.

With Crouch and Tex also being out that means they were without their best two forwards and their best two midfielders (if you count Rankine twice in that list). Add Dawson playing with an injured foot and it really makes it hard. Adelaide's current injury list is now on par or worse than Collingwood or Richmond's, but that doesn't seem to get much attention in the media.

I get it, but seriously coaches do make a huge difference. Ive seen it with gold coast and essendon. However it does depend also on the condition of the list u inherited. Look at north melbourne and saint kilda. Lists are a mess. Ur only as good as ur cattle
Tbh Richmond winning wasn’t completely unexpected they had 2 decent games beforehand and Adelaide decided to take O’Brien out who has been a bright spot for them this year to then put a 2nd ruckman and a relatively untried ruck against Nankervis
I'd like to see the double midfield tag just to see whether it's feasible in 2024. Doubt it will happen but it would be an interesting experiment, particularly given that the Cats midfield has been so ineffectual the past 6 weeks, as Kingy mentioned.
Not sure how taggable both Heeney and Warner are given they can both drift forward and jump on your head at any moment. But equally you can't let the Swans do as they please, especially at the SCG, so Scott needs to slow down something. So I'd probably go after Gulden and the Lizard if I was doing the double tag.
Blakey is really tough to tag. I go to every Swans home game and watching Lizard is exhausting even to watch! He gets so much separation from his opposite player, so quickly.
That's the problem with Gulden, Warner and Heeney, their burst speed is electric. Unless you're going to hold them at the contest and risk giving away frees there's not a lot you can do once they get going.

I am not anti-Nicks as the Crows have been a destination club for the last few years (Dawson and Rankine) where we were never before....so he must have brought the right vibe around the team, coaches and staff, but after 5-6 years at the helm it has shown that he is not up to being the Senior Coach that the club needs...no hate it's just what the facts are actually showing 33% win loss record is not going to keep you in a job....no different to any Manager that is not getting wins for the company that is employing him.
There is a reason that we have not been able to snare a big fish player this year........no player from other teams can see a positive direction for the Crows.
IMO the Crows need to go after a very experienced coach this time around as they have given new coaches a go for too long and the results just have not been there (exception for Phil Walsh as he appeared to be taking the Crows to the top for the long stay)
Chris Scott would benefit from a change of scenery and the Crows would certainly benefit if they could snare a coach of his quality.....go get him....get serious about OUR Club...words are meaningless, actions show your commitment.
It’s hard to see Matthew Nicks staying on as head coach if the team doesn’t start winning games, he may well give up and get another coach as caretaker for the rest of the season.

The crows need another camp, that cleaned out many of their top players and freed up salary cap and helped other teams. If nothing else the list management team assist the other teams get better talent so we shouldnt be too hard on Adelaide they are contributing to footy in general just not themselves.😂

The only reason the blowtorch wasn’t fully on the Crows earlier this week after that poor loss to Hawthorn, was because of the fallout from the Demons loss.
Hopefully now, the Crows face the intense media scrutiny they deserve to cop after another bad loss. They’re a bottom 4 side, have no sound game plan, and don’t have a great drafting history over the last 5-10 years.
Can’t wait for my Swans to absolutely towel them up next week, and hopefully send Nicks packing 😂

As a Crows supporter I actually am hoping for a huge winning margin for the Swans.......it should be the catalyst for Adelaide higher ups to actually do something rather than just keep plodding along.

The coach doesn’t know how to bring the best out of his players. You don’t berate a player like Rochelle on the bench when he’s down on confidence. He’s only 19 and Nicks needs to recognise that.
Need to take a leaf out of Adam Yze’s book. Encouraging players at ground level. Confidence is not there ATM or in the coach if he can’t inspire that.

The list isn’t necessarily the problem, it’s Reid, Oligivy, Nicks, Olsen and co. When you have 4/5 out of your spine not playing and then your most X factor type player not playing the structure itself will suffer. Tex is 1-2 years away from being done but Fog, Thilthorpe and Welsh could potentially be a good tall forward set up. Cook can be the Hayward/Moore type, Rankine/Rachele/Pedlar will kick plenty of goals over time. Hopefully they can draft Sid Draper with their top pick, get in Welsh and a ruckman ideally. Worrell, Murray, Thilthorpe, Tex and Rankine are awfully important to help Dawson
Dowling will play every game now he’s finally in the team as another mid/wing/high half forward type. Curtin is the only other player who must play every game from here on out. Even if he leaves in 2-3 years they must actually see what he has at afl level not sanfl
