I'm havin the same issue with my 2003 Saturn ion thank you for explaining in such detail because I tried everything you tried and couldn't figure it out I guessed it was the starter but wasn't sure now after watching your video I'm sure it probably is my starter I've had the car for almost 2 years and never replaced my starter so I'm sure it's probably had enough of my bullshit ha thank you again for the video gave me a lot of insight
I've owned a Saturn ion since 2008. The issue is a safety override of the ignition because the fuel pump wasn't ready. When you want to start the engine you turn the key power the electronics (do not start yet) wait for all the beeps for seat belt reminder to end then turn to start. Keep your foot near the gas pedal just in case it putters and needs a little gas.. I say a little don't flood the lines. The issue is the fuel pump needs to prime the lines and if you turn the key to engage the engine right away without the prime of lines being ready the computer puts engine in fail safe bc it's not reading the sensors right to allow the ignition. Because there isn't any fuel yet to engage The way to resolve is to first don't rush starting. Especially in the cold. Always wait for the car to be ready in cold . If it does happen disconnect your power cable from battery. The red power cable. Leave the ground. With this you are re-setting the cars computer that has the fail safe engaged. Leave it off for at least 5 minutes. It might take several tries. Have a battery back up in the trunk and out that on to give extra juice to power lines when ready to start after you discharged the power(by removing cable). The battery pack helps bc the battery being in the rear has a long wire to engage and the extra juice to for a weaker battery helps
But he never explained the diagnosis of the car he just explained everything that was wrong with the car I understand what’s wrong with the car but what was his dia no my car did the same shit and it wasn’t reading my key
