More for ambiance than heat. Adding lava rocks is a plus and gives a more natural look. Also good for areas where “no burn” rules in place or wet/no firewood.
I've since added lava rocks and it improved the radiant heat significantly. It's been great for 2 day camping trips, no need for wood and wife appreciates the lack of smoke :)

They say when you add logs, lava rocks or the rocks they sell the flame actually gets bigger. You can also add a 10psi regulator hose from Home Depot for even bigger flames. I get mine delivered Monday.

@lcfitness7697 I'd give it a 3 for heat generation pre rocks, 7 post rocks.

I might give the lava rocks a shot, just don't want a bunch of lava rock dust in the van while transporting.. I do like the unit overall!
