"They were successful because they loved learning, not because they were trying to be successful." Whewwww I needed to hear this today.
Amen.
Hannah Hedrick this is how I know it’s for me
I like succeeding more than learning
@@presidentjoebiden4859 then you have never truly succeeded
"Your budget was handshakes and hotdogs."
...well, now it's just hotdogs.
2:47 “I stopped doing projects to prove myself and I started doing more projects to improve myself.” PURE GOLD.
Bruce Lee is having a hard time holding that mic stand.
Kontent Wizard 🎥 😂😂😂😂
Hahahaha this made my day
😂
D4Darious is that needle in a haystack. God, I pray he breaks the glass. He's humble, creative, experienced, a great motivator and an eloquent speaker.
I learned everything about lenses, focal points, f-stops and operating a camera from him.
Humble, creative and all that you mention isn't what it takes to break into the industry
it’s who you know not what you know

It helps to know things as well.
“If you know how to make ten cents look like a dollar, you will never go out of business.”
Bars. Inspirational bars.
Wow “If you can make $0.10 look like $1.00 you will be successful”
Lamar Shealey Yeah, that was a GEM.
no... if you have nothing and can make something looks good you can also make $10k look like $100k.
best film youtube channel hands down
Speaks the truth, practice makes perfect
Agree !
Absolutely without question
I always say: think less, do more, fail fast :)
Love your stuff, bro. Shout out from Egypt.
I dig it.
Wind River is a perfect example of a film that has the simplest of story and premise but crafted so well you barely notice.
That ending was sweet
Absolutely LOVE this. Same in the old days for music. Hopefully I’ll get discovered. Bummer, I didn’t, I failed. Guess I was no good and should give up. NO! If you really want to do it, go do it. Learn, practice, do. 👍
Kev-kev. It's all about that mindset. Always seems to go back to such a simple thing.
Right but, problem is when life gets in the way. Of course, all those who success will tell you "keep on doing what you love", but that is not always possible. You have bills to pay, children to care about or whatever, and jumping from what brings food to your home into what brings joy to your mind is not always possible. I, for once, used to try and get this runner girl's number but life got in the way (nope... I never forgot :-P).
It's great to see you here Kevin 😄
@@timi0276 Thanks man! No sane person EVER misses a D4 video. 😀
@@BasicFilmmaker you're absolutely right 👌
I stopped doing projects to prove myself; and started doing projects to improve myself. 🔥. Pure gold, right there - pure gold!
"If you're not failing you're not trying!" Right on spot!
I really do gotta say, no other channel makes me more inspired for filmmaking then yours. You're doing a great job. Thank you!
Thank you Seanothan. Keep learning and growing Bruh-bruh.
"Ideas mean nothing without execution!" SO TRUE
“In-expensive mistakes with time and failure” is great advice
I remember watching D4D waay back years ago, and kinda dismissed him as outtta my league - i mean he like Will Smith - so cool and charming, makes plastic frames look good! But it's the "do what you preach" persistence that keeps me coming back to learn more and watch his journey. Thank you Brutha.
damn this literally inspired me to finally shoot the film i’ve been trying to “perfect”
I feel like he’s the David Goggins of film and cinematography. Super inspirational all the time
Darious: "Denniss Villenuvay"
Me: *physically retracts inside my chair*
Mee too... chills
WTF?! How did you know? I did the same thing.
That's the fourth thing he wishes he knew before starting filmmaking
@@CK-ceekay 🤣
Great timing ! I needed to hear this
1. Mindset is everything
2. The Real goal
3. Embrace Failure
Man I love you just rewatching some of your old videos after I saw this new one reminds me how much I've missed your videos has taught me more than I've ever learnt from any other place and it hit me hard and reassured me when you said you're going to fail a lot if times you just can't get over it by getting tutorials
I’m picking up what you are throwing at me! Great tips Darious! I’m currently in the works on my first Short! I started with weddings, then I moved on to Commercials. I have now started filming my first short & I also post video editing tutorials on UA-cam as well! Thanks for the advice! Keep killing it Man! 💪🏼🎥🎬
Thanks man needed this
Thank you for sharing. Definitely needed this.
You're such an inspiration man! not just in terms of your drive and motivation but also your personality, you make the whole film-making process seem way less daunting. So thank you for all of these videos, but most importantly thank you for being yourself!
Bro this video is beast! One of my favourites that you’ve done 🙌🏼🙌🏼 so important for starting out filmmakers to get this!
I love your channel! I'm going to start mine soon, your skill with shooting without a big budget is amazing! Keep making stories!
Thank you FVS and good luck on the Film Fam.
@@D4Darious Woah. D4darious replied!
I’m so excited to watch content from all my favorite creatives during this time.... thanks for the upload ✊🏿
That sign out felt like the wrap up to a classic jazz song. Or the end of a heartfelt symphony. From the heart! Thanks D.
From one filmmaker to another... I needed this video. Thank you.
Love the "Sandbox" mentality!! Giving yourself time where it's just you and the camera experimenting and failing, that's like what sports players do on the field. It goes along with my favorite Magic School Bus quote: Take Chances, Make Mistakes, Get Messy!!!
Yours is one of my best channel and you just did it again. well done D
Absolutely love your advice Darious! Your info is gold! It not only applies to film making, but life in general. I was feeling a little down today regarding my own projects, but your advice perked me up. Thank you so much! I'm ready to move forward more than ever now.
Great video! Mindset is such a huge factor in any pursuit.
Man, you somehow put everything I needed to hear right now into a video. Keep doing what you're doing; it inspires so many independent artists out there to keep working.

Great information bro keep up the good work
This is some greta advice. The growth mindset is so worth having and maintaining. Thanks!
This is great info in EVERYTHING you do! Great motivational info too
Growth mindset: good. Get rid of the 10,000 hours. There's no minimum or maximum amount of work or time.
The 10,000 is a useful number to gauge progress to expertise.
Expertise does not imply anything except being good enough to compete.
Great insights! Thanks for sharing.
I love this channel.man you always offer value
Wow you're videos always amaze me! Such valuable information in a short package :) Love it
Thanks for this video, extremely well said!
This is Gold. To share these insights is truly generous. Another invisible craft.
The endless quest for knowledge. Loving the message.
This is literally my best video from you so far. So much truth in one video! Wow! Thanks for this
Hey D, just wanted to say that I love your channel man. Your one of the most genuine people on UA-cam. You dont flaunt fancy equipment or rely on gimmicks like 8k and slow motion. Im not trying to hate on youtubers who do the above but your channel is just more practical for the average person. Learned alot from you. Thanks man.
This is some good stuff. thanks
Thanks i really needed to hear this
I love it D! Being humble and starving to continue to learn and grow is the key.
I really appreciate your content homie! You inspire us old heads 💯
Great advice! Thank you ❤
As long as you don't soil your shorts, you'll do okay. Keep making your films folks.
Awesome stuff Darius, I just made my second short film. Doing it exactly the way you said, writing, directing, producing, self funding everything myself. Your videos have been really helpful. Thanks heaps! Keep up the great work
love hearing your wisdom, especially on podcasts 💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽
Brilliant! I'm a software engineer of 35 years and the "fail fast" mantra is key to learning fast. Now, as a novice video maker, I'm at the bottom of the learning curve (I mean I just discovered the importance of audio 3 weeks ago) and I'm glad to hear that the same principles of learning apply just a much in the video world!
Really needed to see this today Darious, Thank you bro.
You give me chills sometimes, bro. Thank you for your teachings.
Great video, brother. Keep up that good work 💪🏽
Excellent knowledge and advice my friend, thank you for sharing!
I needed this man. Thank you!!!
I regularly rewatch this to stay on my path, I am going to a film school this year, and your videos are eye openings for me. Thank you so much!
I really understand your concepts bro. I just keep forgetting so this was a great reminder!
