If you have not ever been to a top fuel race, you can't imagine a race car with a 500 cubic inch engine that can do what they can achieve. It is nearly not possible to go this fast in 1000 feet. The speed and time these cars achieve is breathtakingly unbelievable.
They're tire handling gloves that have a rubber coating with tiny rubber bristles that cleans the tire one more time of tiny bits of track debris and burnout residue. Clean tire surface mated to a clean, sticky track for that slight competitive edge.

Up close it takes your breath away, literally (from the race fuel sucking oxygen out of the air), and you can feel the impact in your chest like someone punched you. It will feel like your eardrums are getting blown out.
Yes. I went to an event last summer. Went to the bathroom and when I got out the top fuels were getting ready for a run and I forgot to put in my ear protection. Words cannot describe how loud it was. You can get away with maybe 1 or 2 runs with no hearing protection, but I’d definitely keep it on.
You could take any vehicle road legal and let it have a rolling start at top speed and right when it passes the dragster, the dragster will still beat it to the finish line.

You are cooked, literally, you would probably get incinerated by the nitro methane fuel thats left after you crash, thats what the flames are coming out of the exhaust, unburnt nitro methane fuel.
I don't know how people can just stand in front or right next to vehicles with running engines. Had a job inspecting semi-trucks as they rolled into a railyard. Only took a few months before a driver almost killed me. Driving while I was inspecting. Now that shit is all automated.
It helps get rid of any grit that may have gotten stuck to the tires after the burnout. You want to make sure as much of the rubber is exposed to get the best lockup

Through the speed traps, these cars are covering a football field in one second or less. The stresses on the chassis and forces on the driver are immense. Skill is required, absolutely, but it's more of a point n shoot and simply getting the car to stick down the track. If I ever get the $ necessary, it's #1 on my bucket list.
