I own my late father's 1995 EF Fairmont, and it's in excellent condition and low mileage, it is petrol and lpg from the dealership, I love driving it, it's actually fun too drive and so powerful still with its straight six, it will be a sad day when I have no choice but to sell it.
Just sold my low km ‘08 4X4 hilux to go back to a ‘07 dedicated gas BF Ute. Why?? Because it’s just easier to live with and cheeaaappp to run. Wow. I can load motorcycles in the back by myself it’s super comfortable for long hauls. Bullet proof reliability and cheap to fix if something does happen to go wrong. Can’t beat it.
Hey Matt, I love your enthusiasm for your FG2 ute. I’m as enthusiastic about my FG 1 dedicated gas ute. It does all the things I want it to do (performance, handling, fuel and servicing cost, size of tray and ride quality when unladen) better than anything else that is available.
In 2016 I bought a petrol Territory to replace my BF Wagon. It's basically a Falcon wagon on stilts. Still driving it today, and no plans to get rid of it.
Here is a list of things to look forward to (I own 2 Fords). Apart from the list they are awesome. 1. Power Steering pump and or hose (genuine pump $500 hose is $270, parts only) 3. ICC colour screen breaking upon replacing battery (its not if they break but when. $800 fix minimum) 4. Trans milkshake due to bad heat exchange (over 5k to fix). Change coolant often and service Auto every 80K km or less. 5. Mixer shaft breaking 6. Axle house weld cracking 7. Power windows button failing 8 Break switch failing
funny because i have an ex taxi at 440k kms. Same engine, same box, same diff. Recently replaced alternator and new waterpump and new power steering pump. Thats it. No zf milkshakes because i dont push the car hard nor tow. No icc failures or power windows or mixer shafts or axles house.
FG's are great cars all round, they have their issues but every car does, if you don't thrash it all the time you genuinely get good life out of the power steering pump. As for the Trans milkshake, make sure coolant is in good condition, service the Trans fluid every 80k and REPLACE the transmission heat exchanger every 80k (when you service it) and you'll highly reduce the chance of a milkshake. It's only like $250 for a heat exchanger.
Ended up getting a used ICC, which also broke. Upgraded to a Kayhan after market, and no more issues. Make sure the Kayhan has the latest updates. The new Kayhan Android unit offers a fantastic set of features.
The ride and handling of Falcon utes is amazingly good considering they use leaf springs that can carry a tonne etc. They do everything well. My only criticism is that they are bedevilled by lots of irritating, niggly quality glitches. Poor quality paint, they can rust, the interior plastics etc. However overall they are incredibly tough cars. Ford Australia were serious about designing a car that could take a real pounding on outback roads - heat, dust, mud, gravel, corrugations - the Falcon will take all of them in its stride over huge mileages.
The falcon base models have a more sporty look at the front compared to the commos. Plus the base model commos are shit no one has them anyway. It’s not Holdens market their market are the sporty SV6’s and SS’s. Fords market is their base models so you can see where the brands focuses are
Well. Your enthusiasm for the Ford Falcon Ute was virtually overwhelming. Not just 'whelming'. There is some sadness that these carbased utes have largely left the Aussie scene or will be gone within the next decade (barring a few at collectors' meets, lovingly polished & 'sexed-up' by those who've spiritually got to have 'em). No nonsense car/utes for no nonsense Australians. (sounds vaguely like a Politician's Advert). From a locked-down Melbournian a fair bit over those massive bargelike thingees with an afterthought rear for tools etc., by which I mean, 'Nearly-SUV's' with a rear holder for miscellaneous [fill in the box for what needs carrying -> [......................................... ], or more specifically for those who are really competing to enter 'the aspiration tradesman demographic'.
Haha cannot deny the nerd in me 🥺 Don't worry regular reviews soon after these lockdowns end in a couple of weeks! There will only be 1 other video like this 😁
Too much power for young people. Like a stray weapon. Injury and death will result. The power is best reserved for overtaking on that open road and getting you out of trouble. Any idiot can plant the foot heavily.
yeah, Ford ute looks peaked with the EF. I have a BF XR6 Ripcurl, and it's pretty, but...not as pretty as the EF . Never was a fan of the separate tub.

Falcon.
Falcon!
Falcon, bought a AU XLS Trayback intech not long ago, sitting on 461k at the moment, and even that is comfy
Falcon

Love my FG, great car, can't fault it, much more reliable than SUV's and 4x4's of today.
Great review too, these Falcons need more credit.
Love the Steelie wheels, hope you will keep them in service it’s a ute after all
I'm undecided! Still on for now 🙂

I love the EF series! Hopefully that day to sell it won't come anytime soon :)

Bring back the the Australian UTE! We already miss it.
I got a bf gas barra wags, love it. The same practicality with 5 seats.

Thanks Peter! Essentially the same car, so great choice 😀

Nice as. I want to buy an FG and turn it into a police divvy like I have with my AU. Lovely ute mate! Great vid.
Thanks! Would look awesome 😁
Nice topic to do your own Ute , i enjoyed it. Also you can always put a light bar on it if the lights aren’t much chop. Steelies are ok, it’s a Ute.
RIP Ford Australia , Falcon and Falcon Ute!
I'd like to come down under after the Covid madness, and drive one!
Thanks. I share your enthusiasm for these things. The one downside is rear visibility on drivers side. Other than that, no major issues with mine.
Yeah I put magnifiers in my mirrors to see better! Love my FG Ute 😀

I'm not too concerned, but add alternator to the list 😝
Can confirm some of these 😂 but it’s not to bad. They don’t all happen at once

Cannot beat the Falcon Ute , especially in tough country like here in the Flinders ranges
Keep the steelies! They look great and really suit the working nature of the vehicle. I just bought a set for my AU because I like them so much.
Nice vid, FGX steering wheel is a great up grade, it feels good and chunky in the hands. Just need some FGX XR6 wheels to go with it.
Thanks! And yes massive upgrade, a night and day difference as it's what you touch most!
great video, would love to see an airplane review on flight simulator next!
Deal
Love your videos, I would love to watch a commodore review 😍
Thank you! And hopefully soon, just need to get my hands on one :P
LPG is the way to go - love it

It certainly isn't a massive difference in looks from the base model vs the XR6 in terms of looks!

Thanks, I really appreciate it! It very much is my baby, I get less time to drive her but everytime I do I remember why I love my falcon!
I jus bought 1...2013 model and love it
My brother had one like that, except it was a sedan and was turbocharged
1st mod you should do is an external oil cooler for your ZF. Spend the coin, buy the PWR heat exchanger kit and it’ll last forever.
Is it really worth spending $500 to prevent a relatively rare issue which only costs $800 to fix.
@@lukesm5747 Replacing the ZF gearbox is not $800 to fix after the milkshake! You need a new gearbox so $4,000 to 5000 to replace.
@@seegee7728 What the fuck are you on about. Second hand ZFs are 500-700 bucks depending on condition and model. 5k my ass.
I've heard they can be picky the ZF box with air coolers hence why most (like myself) still run the coolant heat exchanger just replace it every 80k.
@@callumandrews4342 80k is pushing your luck. Some have shit themselves at 50k kms
Growing up mum and dad always had a commodore and falcon. VF drove better than the FG even though I loved the Ford 😫
Dad had a VF Commy, and I loved that too. I really would love to get my hands on an SSV for a review soon!
Take out the plastic bed liner stuff can get stuck under it and rust a hole into the bed use a paint/roll on bed liner
the l/100kms after driving that hard lol
Don't worry it was that bad because it was sitting while running when filming for an hour! I drive it *hard* but not that bad :P
Falcons have always been a little heavy on the fuel consumption compared to commodore
@@alexanderstevens145 LPG is mandatory. They run well on it.
Lol you're such a nerd Matt! Though if I had my own UA-cam car review channel, I'd probably end up reviewing my own car too.
Haha cannot deny the nerd in me 🥺

@@CarSauce haha no worries brother! Keep up the hard work we really appreciate it!
I thought all factory dedicated LPG (E-gas) Falcons had green rocker covers ( aka Green tops) ?
A classic undertaker car
Haha I see that
What a shame that this type of vehicle is extinct. I will never get a Ranger/Triton/Navara Tonka Truck.
Bull bars a no for me but everything is great
Fair enough :)
Where is the throttle controller video?
Ford all the way
6:20 My FGMK1 steering wheel goes up and down and in and out maybe yours is all the way out!
Falcon
I think a lot of people would agree ;)
byeing one tomorow 210 163000 km 8 grand
its hard im a holden ute man
but time for a change holden quit us so i will quit them lol
gotta get a proper bullbar and get rid of that smart bar shit
Fg turbo with like 2000hp
Because I couldn't afford a ranger
I want one, slammed!
I have a holden ve sportwagon and its nice (i told the kids, for a runabout lol)...but its not a ford.
UTTTEEEEEEEEEEEEE!
That's how I feel everytime I drive mine 😝
Too much power for young people. Like a stray weapon. Injury and death will result. The power is best reserved for overtaking on that open road and getting you out of trouble.

Can't legally clean your car?
big blue oval yuk
Objectively it's a sporty, sleek, and a tasteful design?
No my man, objectively it's uglier than sin.😲

Waffles on and on......but eventually gets the facts out
Like fords but hate autos Boring...
The manual in the FG is great, but I'm happy with the auto for daily commuting :)
