- An easy way to diagnose a bad door ajar switch without special equipment and an easy fix for 2006 Ford escape

Thank you!! I had an intermittent door ajar signal going into my ears a few years back (as if door was being opened and closed constantly while driving, real emotional torture there for sure!). After pulling latch mechanisms, narrowed it to passenger front door, and found the microswitch that detects door ajar status (it is activated by the moving mechanism of the latch). The switch lever arm was broken, but hanging on just enough to jiggle while driving. I removed the arm and the ajar light has been on constantly since, but thanks to you, the blue and black/white wires have had their meeting of the minds, and the dash light is gone!
Kudos for your troubleshooting skill of isolating the problem to the specific door but you should be in handcuffs right now for your wiring abilities. I blew coffee out of my eyes when I saw the cutter you used. Looked like a tool a blacksmith would use to shoe horses. 🤣
Thank you for the video. I bought a 2005 escape today with this exact problem and now I know how to fix it myself. Can't thank you enough!
This process worked!!! For me, it was the right rear passenger door. I pulled off the door panel and spliced the pink/blue wire to the black/white wire and the door ajar light went out. Saved $200. Thank you for the tip!!
Scot Warwick in order to figure out what door it was did you do what he did? Lock the doors and open each one to see which one doesn’t set the alarm off? Thanks
@@deitsch95 yes, sir. That's exactly what I did. The alarm failed on both passenger doors which surprised me. I bypassed the front first, but the door ajar light stayed on. Then I bypassed the rear and the light went out. I then went back and reassembled the right front and was able to make the alarm go off. I have read that code readers can single out the offending switch, but I don't have one.
When u said you spliced the pink/blue wire to the black/white wire ,do u mean u made a contact spot on each wire and ran a jumper wire connecting to each?
today this video helped me stop my alarm on my 05 mercury mariner. Thank you sir
Following these instructions fixed the front passenger door ajar problem on my 2005 Ford Escape. Thx!
What color wires did you cut and join together? I did this with my back rear and it worked, but the wires are different for the front passenger, which I now have to do. There are 2 black/white wires in the front, so I have no clue.
Also, the wires don't go straight to the door latch. There are 2 sets of wires with plugs near the door lock, and then one large black one going to the door latch. But the 2nd plug near the door lock I THINK is for the door latch.
Anyway, what colors did you splice together for yours?
Thank you!
Thanks for taking the time to make this video. It's a great public service
Oh man! Haha those wire cutters! Looks like an Civil War era dental tool!
The dealer tried to charge me $900 to fix this. You just saved me $900. It worked. Thank you :)
Great! Glad to hear it.
When we first had this problem, it seemed that the best way to diagnose the culprit door was to go to the Ford dealer and pay almost $100 to have the alarm history read. Got it--right rear passenger door. I took off the switch, disassembled it, and reshaped the cam that was preventing the contacts from closing. That worked well for maybe two months, then the alarm went off one night, I have really nice neighbors, and I hate to do anything like letting an alarm go off. I found your video, with the perfectly logical method of isolating the problem! It was the same door. So I took my good cutters and spliced the wires. I do have two pairs of the old ones just like yours, so don't take flak over the tool! Thank you!
It says right on the dash display which door is ajar genius. You should send me $100 for that info!
@@Soul666Snatcher no it doesn’t genius 😂
@@TheMrChaddles I think it depends on the model/year. I have this problem and it displays the door thats ajar on the display
My ‘06 escape was doing this alarm going off at all hours. And of course unfortunately there is no indicator as to which door is open. as it got progressively worse it got to the point where I installed a battery disconnect so I could turn the damn thing off at night. But then when driving the interior light Would go off and on. I left it at the FORD Dealer for days and apparently no one there had a clue as to how to diagnose it. So I took it home again and Measured the resistance of each switch circuit and found the front passenger door was the problem. Not willing to spend more than $200 on a new lock I removed it and found that it was the tiniest microswitch embedded into the latch and impossible to replace. so I ended up skinning the wires to the switch and soldering them together. Problem solved but of course now that door does not control the dome light nor does it detect entry. I’ve been planning to install a jamb switch to regain functionality. But now I found that when the car heats up and cools down and passes through 85 - 90 degrees it trips the alarm
. apparently a second switch is failing. There has got to be a special place in hell for the people that designed these locks. And can someone tell me why there is 6 different latches in this car. I mean not ANY of the locks are interchangeable.
Great video!
I went to a dealership today and found out it was my rear right sensor that was the issue. They want to charge me around $800 for parts and labor. So hoping this fix works. :)
Thank you for posting it.
You can do this without removing the door panel. Look up Michaels Braggs video to see how to do it.
You can access the rear passenger door's wires by opening the front passenger door. There is a little rubber box right in between your front passenger door and rear passenger door, the box of wires is about parallel to the door handles in terms of where it is in between the two doors. You just have to open the front passenger door and look in between the 2 doors to find it. If you remove the rubber encasing (there should be click-releases on the top and bottom of it and it should click out) to access the wires. Jump the black&white wire to the pink&blue wire using copper/electrical wire.
Hope this helps. Takes 10 minutes to rewire if you don't have to mess with the door panels, so it ends up being much easier and less time consuming.
I tried this solution first, but for some reason I was unable to make a solid connection with the jumper wire. It's still a great tip, though!!
I agree the Michael Braggs solution is much simpler fix to the problem (ua-cam.com/video/uV1r9wUy6_M/v-deo.html), but this video gives a better fault finding method. A combination of the two would be perfect.
I am so thankful for this video not only did u show me which door but also helped me fix my issue thanks alot man!! Took me ten mins
Dude! Thank you! No more alarms going off at night.
I cant wait to get home from work and try this ,my 2005 escape is doing the same thing,Just subscribed
Thank you so much! I've been looking for alternative solutions rather than just disabling the entire alarm system. I wish I had found this before buying an ODBII scanner (and before finding out it was useless for open door codes anyway). I can't believe I didn't think of this! It was the front passenger door in my 02 Escape. I'm using a fix from another UA-camr where you join the switch wires together with a connector to trick the car into thinking it's always connected (in order to avoid buying and replacing a new switch). But first I'll take a look and ensure I can't just clean the switch and have it work. 😅
I know nothing about cars but this stopped the random beeping seriously appreciated.
it was really helpful sir thank you but in my car the hood ajar was the problem so I just went to disconnect the hood and kaboom it worked thank you these cars are a mess with ajar sensors 🙄
This was extremely helpful. Removing the door panel was the hardest part 😅 lol. But my 07’ escape is fixed! Thanks!
Thanks. Simple, easy fix with clear instructions 👍
Thanks a lot for this video. How did you know which were the right colour wires? I don't have a manual. Stay safe you and yours.
Is there a way to check the back doors? After doing the alarm test with the two front doors I tried sitting in the back seat and doing this. The back doors won't open unless you manually unlock them, so I don't know another way to check the back two doors. Thanks for any help.
This is happening to me as well
Does anyone have an answer for why this is an issue? Still trying to figure out what door is the problem
I manually unlocked mine and pulled the door handles and both my back doors made the alarm go off
Thank you very much. It work perfectly as you said.
So in order to determine which door is the faulty door is to look then and open each one?
Great video.
Tried the door alarm test from inside and all the doors alarm when opened. But when I'm driving it's the rear passenger one that says Ajar when if isn't so not sure why this test didn't work
Does anyone know how to check the back doors? After doing the alarm check on the front doors I moved to the back to try it and I can't open them from inside the car
I am trying to fix this issue for my 92 year old grandfather. I am a bit lost by the video instructions. Any chance for a clarification on which wires connect to what in the description? Hard to see in the video. Thanks.
Took the words right out of my mouth
@@DrewVerdin I actually fixed my grandfather's rig. He took it to a "qualified mechanic" who cut the wire. Turns out the entire housing was so loose that the door would not recognize latched. Tightened it up, problem solved.
if you had ground the blue wire to the metal door frame...Would that had worked?
Question you tied them off but then you added a wire to jump them back together. Whats this added wire for if all i have todo is cut them and tie them off why would i reconnect them i hope you can get back to me. Either way thank you i really hope this helps
Pay attention! Its a normally closed circuit, when it fails it is left open so you have to splice the wires together from car wiring NOT from sensor wiring to deactivate the open door sensor.
Muchas gracias me funcionó. Thanks a lot it works for me!!
No hablo el español pero tampoco entendí que cables unió.espero me orientes
Would have been nice to hear a voice
When I try the trick to figure out which door is causing the ajar light to go on, my car doesn't alarm any doors and the lights in the cabin turn on as if situation normal. What's up with that? I can't get my alarm to go off at all.
Didn't work. All doors set off alarm so I figured my situation was resolved as I cleaned all the latches. Then of course in the middle of the day the alarm starts going off.
Will I still be able to use the key fob to lock/unlock the door if I do this?
Yes
No. You have to break the window and tape a piece of clear plastic over it so you can crawl in the window.
friends, how to solve a front passenger door, the door appears open on the dashboard, I part of the video but the dashboard light is missing, it does not erase
what do I have to do with the black wire that continues to the lock door
You cut that wire and run it straight to ground. Voila, all fixed!
Never touch wiring again!
nice job! but dude get some new side cutter
packing tape???
All of my doors didn't trigger...
Here is video that accomplishes the same task without having to take the door apart and cut the wires. I was able to knock out both rear doors in my 2007 escape in 20 minutes.
