You could take Blackpool out of the title, and this is still great advice. Here's a few things I appreciate about Craig; He's self aware and owns up when need be. He had an issue, owned it, and never shirks away, or equivocates, when it's mentioned. He says "don't be this guy..." and then immediately follows up with, "I was that guy, and I regret it.." I like hearing someone put out his opinion, and at times agreeing 100%, and at others, totally disagreeing. He's PASSIONATE about magic, shares that passion, is honest about his business, etc., etc., etc. Hope this reads as a compliment, that's how it was meant. This vid is one of my favorites so far, and I'm not even going to Blackpool. Keep'em coming, and thx
This is great advice. 2020 was my first BMC and in The Ruskin I felt pretty isolated. I'm a confident person, normally, but in there I was too scared to approach groups of "proper" magicians.
I hope we bump into each other Craig. 3rd Blackpool for me. First as a dealer. If anyone is feeling unsure, isolated, overwhelmed or exhausted stop by the Lightning Magic Shop stand for a chat. There is absolutely no pressure to buy anything. Just come and have a break. I'm hoping I'll catch up with a lot of you at lectures, performances and in the Ruskin but who knows how exhausted I'll be from demonstrating all day!
Not going myself but just want to say what a fantastic offer Chris. As someone who suffers from pretty debilitating anxiety and don't have any friends in the hobby as great as a convention can be it can also be extremely overwhelming and also a lonely time for people who find it hard to socialise. When you see everyone making friends and chatting it can really make you feel even more alone and isolated. Having an offer like this for somewhere to go and have a chat and know you are going to be met with a friendly, welcoming face is a godsend 👌🏼 You seem a great guy Chris, nice to see there's still decent people left in humanity. Have a good one buddy!
Yes, SOME of the pro magicians are approachable, but not all. DO be prepared for rejection as well as acceptance - I've had a couple of surly responses from people who didn't want to be interrupted, which is fair enough because they might be working on something new and - let's be honest - there are some very tight cliques established over years. And some of the older (angry Magic Café sort) magicians are demonstrably bitter about people not learning magic 'the hard way'. By the same token, I've also had some AMAZING kindness from the real pros. It's like anything - use your eyes, weigh up what's happening and apply judgement.
I’m a little late watching this ,but thank you for sharing this advice. I’ve been a hobbyist of magic for 39 years. I purchase new magic tricks weekly almost. With all that said I still have yet to make it to a magic convention. I live in the states and I’m only 2 hours away from Magi Fest. I’ve always wondered what these conventions was like and how I could make it a whole three days without being broke. Awesome advice!! I can’t wait for my Quantum Deck to arrive.
You are right about the gala show. you will NOT see so many international acts under one show. i started going to the convention ONLY going to the gala shows. They used to sell tickets at the Winter Gardents tickets office for under £20. I used to buy all three days gala shows. Then it would cost only couple of tenners more for the whole three days and thats when I bought the whole three days. My only gripe with lectures is that too many of them are doing card tricks. Sometimes I just avoid card tricks. Graig, One very important point you must add to the list is that DON'T go to a dealers stall and bore them with non magical idle talks. They HATE it.
Hey Craig, You're a pretty cool guy. Your rules were very thought out and I hope the folks listen and take notes. I'm coming for the first time from the U.S. next year. -keith
Thanks Craig that was super helpful. I'm looking forward to your lecture at Blackpool this year. It will be my first time at any magic convention so I will likely be the one too nervous to bug you at the Ruskin!
Won’t be going this year but a piece of advice I would give is to check out the dealers who only sell in person e.g Paul Richards he has some brilliant effects that you won’t be able to buy after the convention.
As the tickets to Blackpool magic convention are rather pricey (not sure why it’s so much, could be due to the fact that they have to hire that hall and make profit also? Pay the acts etc?) it’s best to make sure that you make the most of it, go see a few lectures also! “Set a budget and stick to it” great idea! And very important to know! Let your wife/husband hold on to your wallet! You won’t dare over spend then! 😂 Another is write a list of tricks you want and only get what is on your list! Think of it like a shopping list! On my list I have tricks that I know I will 100 percent perform. Because you know that what is on your list you will use etc! (I’ve done this and I’ve saved money and I’ve used everything I bought)! Saved money because one Blackpool convention only 2 tricks that were on my list were there! So I spent only £60. Hope that made sense!
Great list, I'm still too scared to go to it though, also I'm dirt poor haha. However I have to ask? People are sleeping for ten hours?! I sleep four to six, I can't stay in bed that long!
1.Don't screw-up a sale. 2. If you chat up a dealer for the love of God buy something. 3. Don't ask stupid questions. 4. Always get permission to take a photo.
Great advice, entertaining in parts & funny. I only live a 20min tram ride from the convention but never been. Went to the Ruskin once for a couple of pints but left early because I was on my own and didn't know anyone 😔

Lady magicians are awesome too...
Would gladly watch anyone performing magic regardless of gender coz Magic is Awesome 😍

Be clean 😂😂 That's a statement for Blackpool

In my experience most of these stars are absolute gentlemen and ladies, should you speak to them.

Totally agree with the list
Good video all so true. My favourite part of Craig’s videos though are when he uses the wrong banners in the edit
I do that just for you.
Hope to do Magic Live.
Waiting for your lecture and ryland in the gala show!
Great list, I'm still too scared to go to it though, also I'm dirt poor haha. However I have to ask? People are sleeping for ten hours?! I sleep four to six, I can't stay in bed that long!
Are the lectures included in the price of 50 pounds for a convention day?
I'd love to go to a convention. Never have been to one.
Blackpool is like las Vegas never sleep
hi Craig, do you planning goto magic live or fism ??
Will the quantum deck be available at Blackpool?
I imagine it will be totally sold out by then.

Female magician are cool 👍

The disturbing thing is that you had to put the point number 18
The intro says "10 Tricks You Have To Include In Your Every Day Carry".
Oooops. Sorry about that.
Great advice, entertaining in parts & funny. I only live a 20min tram ride from the convention but never been. Went to the Ruskin once for a couple of pints but left early because I was on my own and didn't know anyone 😔
Don’t be a prick 💯😂 haha totally
Have you got shares in The Ruskin?
