Omar Ibn Khattab payed allegiance to Ali this day. All sahaba knew the near link between Muhammad and Ali and the could guess what Muhammad will say about Ali. By the way, Quran 5:67 have been revealed in Ghadir Khumm when Ali was appointed as a successor according to more than 20 sunnis scholars like Jalal Udin Suyuti etc
