Before Led Zeppelin, first time I saw John Bonham he put his very nice looking leather jacket in his bass drum. Sounded pretty memorable as I recall.

That may be true and I’ve used blankets and large pillows sheets in the past myself but I know for a fact the drums were not recorded with a jacket inside the bass when being recorded, lol 😂

@@drumteacher43 I used pretty much everything. That was the only time I ever saw him do that. The bass drum mic was also right at the back by the beater Also picking up the snare. He probably got this idea from Bugs Pemberton I think from the Big Three who also got a huge sound. Bugs sang with a straight mic stand between him and the snare! No travelling boom stands then. Bonhams drums at Rockfield Studios in Wales were in a long milking barn and so the legend goes were re-recorded thru speakers at one end of a long barn into a mic at the other. Probably copied at other studios by using stairwell, leaving doors open to larger rooms etc. Bowie used the same long barn to put three gated mics along so the louder he got fired them in turn from sotto to forte. These are the legends I heard. No doubt I didn't hear many more.
