Aus pro sporting teams have the sport psychology down pat. They would of recognized that all the pressure was on India and therefore played with no fear but aimed to increase the pressure on the other team with every bit of good play whether a boundary save, a dot ball when bowling and soul crushing boundaries when they were batting. There was an over when Bumrah, their number 1 striker came back and Travis dead deliberately targeted him with 2 scintillating boundaries and you could see from that moment in the faces of the Indian team that the game was completely gone at that point. I think when India do break through again, which is only a matter of time; that monkey being gone and it will help them to free themselves up. Aussies dont feel pressure to prove themselves with so many trophies and when India reach that point, they will probably be unstoppable.

The difference in Rohit's innings is he usually starts well and gets out first but today gill was already gone and he got a 6,4 in the over. So, yes should have stood for few more overs. But unfortunately lost shreyas next over itself. That put more pressure on rahul and Kohli who played well. Exactly when they would have started progressing Kohli got out. And also siraj should have started as usual. Giving him 16th over breaks his confidence too.

Following are my scores for Indian batsmen out of 10. Rohit-6, Gill-0, Shreyas-0, Kohli-4, Rahul-4, Suryakumar Yadev-1, Jadeja -1. With these scores one cannot expect India to win. Australia were miles ahead in their performance, Below par by at least 100 runs.

One of them should have been agressive and played fearless cricket. Given that Virat plays the anchor role, KL should have been more agressive. Exactly the same thing that happened with England in the T20 Semi Finals. Early wickets when we are setting up the total and we end up making a mess of it. Australia were also 49/3 but they did not go into the shell. That's the difference. I really don't know when we will learn to play fearless cricket when early wickets fall when setting up a total. KL is always a big choker when it comes to these situations.

KL Rahul has got lot of talent but he lacks that killer instinct which is back firing to us during crucial knock out stages. No point in blaming just KL. Australia had a game plan for every Indian batsman including what kind of length to bowl and where to set fielders for each Indian player. They did their homework and read the pitch very well. India as usual experimented in a crucial match under the great Scientist of Indian cricket, Rahul Dravid.
Desperation with a low total made Rohit bring on Shami early before Siraj. Siraj is good with the new ball only. We lost Shubman and Shreyas too quickly, Virat and Rahul did the right thing to steady the ship. If they had gone hard we would have not got to even 200. We can’t rely on Jadeja and SKy both haven’t scored this entire World Cup.
India were too defensive both in batting and bowling, Lack of slips, single saving wasn't there even for labus , when they started with shami it looked like target was low so they were going outright aggressive with best bowlers , but once when they got hit , we went too defensive. In batting , we lost lot of singles and we were in pressure and were not able to judge what score to post.
Some consolations 1. Out of 46 days , India dominated 45 days . 2. Team India recorded highest runs - 3160 among all teams . 3. Team India took 100 wickets in tournament - again highest among all teams. 4. Team India scored 25 half centuries including seven centuries - again highest among all teams . 5. Team India have a batting average of 52.37 and no other team could cross average of 50. 6. Highest runs in tournament ( Kohli) and highest wickets in tournaments ( Shami) . 7. Rohit hit 31 sixes which is again highest among all teams . TOI heading rightly sun rises “Do not despair, Let us celebrate this Indian Team. Yes. The cup didn't come home. But Team India gave India moments of our joy for at least 45 days. Nothing takes that away .”
The Australian fielding outstanding. The Major problem KL Rahul didn't rotate the strike he is too defense. Middle order totally exposed. First time bowlers failed to take wickets.
The other game changing wicket was Iyer. His role was to smash the spinners but unfortunately he was dismissied early & eventually Kohli & KL had to play cautiously
Cheeka sir and Ani - Thanks for doing this analysis and posting these videos on time throughout the World Cup. However, this is just very disheartening to see this happen again in another final. This is probably one of the best Indian ODI sides in recent times. I don't know when we would even be able to come this far in the next 12 years given that ROKHO and many others are set to retire in the next 4 years. This could be one of the biggest blows to Indian cricket and I don't see us bouncing back anytime soon. I think it is best to lower our expectations (as Indian fans) for any of the future ICC tournaments. We need to once again rebuild the team from scratch. We would have to give it to the Aussie grit and determination for their ability to raise their game when it mattered the most. They did all of this in front of 1.3 lakh strong indian crowd. This is probably one of the greatest World Cup wins in their history (given everything was stacked up against them).

1. Partnership Between VK & KL cost us the game. We know VK was playing the Anchor role in all 10 games, KL should play aggressive game. KL should have targeted the 5th bowler. That might release pressure for us . KL not even took singles. 2. Siraj using the third bowler is a big mistake. He can't bowl slow bouncers or any variations like Shami. We were too defensive in batting and bowling as well. We should have attacked in the field by keeping slip all the time.

Hey bro, let me share an experience with you. I've been living in Perth, Australia, for the last 18 years. A friend's son has incredible batting skills and was ranked fifth in the junior grade. However, he wasn't selected for the state senior level because his fielding wasn't up to par, and he lacked fitness. In Australia, fitness is far more important than anything else; skills can be developed when surrounded by great people. Interestingly, I can't name more than three players in the Indian playing XI who is fit.
Although Cheeka sir himself a ex cricketer his comments about Aussies in the earlier debates were biased too harsh whereas Ani was giving balanced views most of the times. Anyway most enjoyable show by Father and son duo.
Gill and Shreyas’s dismissal put India on the back foot from that India never recovered well. Jadeja’s wicket and SKY’s struggle finished India’s chances. It was not India’s day.

Team like Auz never give importance for personal milestones that is the key for their success. When they dropped player like Mark Waugh in early 2000 it was surprising and shocker for me. His own brother Steve continued to play that too even as a captain. I am not telling Indian players are playing only for personal records, but they are so much worried about their career/future (which is acceptable to an extend). But considering our huge population and bench strength hire and fire policy (contract basis) is much better than putting the player under constant threat of securing their own place.

Make no mistake about it, KL always comes up short in bigger occasions. Australian think tank did better than the Indian think tank (if there was one). Rohit came up flat and his brain completely froze, especially while fielding. His field placement was ideal if we were defending 300-320. For once i agree with Cheeka - Ashwin could have made the difference. To not pick Ashwin is a decision that team management did not have the guts to make.
Ashwin would have made no difference , how’s it fair he had just played one game the whole tournament and expect him to make a difference in finals? We should have tested our bench strength in Netherlands game , two positions that were questionable going into finals was Siraj and SKY and they should have tested some bench strength in their place . Other problem was we badly miss a genuine backup to Hardik .

We do see men coming back from a big injury lay off and come take down attacks like Travis Head did in this world cup. Ashwin could have taken the field considering he was always preparing every single game as if he was playing. All said and done, Ashwin did not play not because he was short on match practice, he did not play because the team management went with the winning combination. Cheeka feels it is a tactical error and I am sure some agree and some don't and in this case I agree with Cheeka - could be my own Ashwin bias 🙂

The same head.. who India dropped in the same xl it's Ashwin.... Shreyas was out for 4 and no one there to hit 4's or 6's. He played very very well so far but in final he could not deliver. It shows how important he is to India batting. Shubman Gill - overall world cup is very poor as per his own standard. Everyone expected he might have been leading scorers but not he simply threw his wicket easily to blame himself.

It is very hard to take this loss...We can forget everything, the lack of boundaries, the fielding, lack of 6th bowler, but not the defensive mindset we adapted when we were bowling. We were too timid! Considering the target we had set, we should have gone for the jugular from the start. 240 was definitely a sub par score since SKY did not fire at the end along with the tailenders to add another 30-50 runs. SKY once again proving that he is inept and immature when he is batting with the tailenders (remember England match?). He has a role in this team and he enters during the death overs. Ani you are excellent point to.point what I thought on all aspects of the entire match. Spot on. Only thing we got beaten even by pitch condition changed second half to play out easily as Head took all risks which missed by our side during our batting. That made the difference. Its really hurt not hating the team rather all our 45 days hard work performance which they put went in vain and hurt them also as they deserved to lift the cup. I believe these are the points that were not in our way. 1. Lost the toss (it's not in our hand) 2. Aus chose to bat second (understanding the dew factors in the 2nd half). 3. Rohit has opened the floodgate, especially when he has already scored 6 and 4 and almost 12 runs in that Maxwell over. There is no need for him to take that risky shot, but someone will say this is the way that he has maintained throughout the tournament, which is not acceptable while playing in the final, which costs not only his wicket but also Shreyas wicket to fall cheaply. 3. Brilliant fielding from Aus, they kept us always under pressure. It seems like they are everywhere in the field. Excellent field placement by Cummins, which has made it difficult for us to take even a single run. 4. Changing the bowling combination: like Ani Bro said, we were going with the Bumrah and Siraj combinations throughout the tournament, but suddenly we are changing the rhythm. Siraj, who is a good new ball bowler, might have taken Head wicket when there is initial seaming assistance available if he had that chance(he is also good for left hander), which would have changed the result of the entire match. Shami can be used later as 3rd bowler, like we were doing; he can take wickets at any moment of the match. The initial 15 over is the key where we should have gotten those 5 wickets; after that, dew will come into play. 5. In the second half, we were not up to the mark in the keeping; KL cost over 12-15 runs, which should have been avoided, especially in a final like this. Overall, we played well throughout the tournament, but we made a few mistakes in this final, which did not work in our favor. We are still an excellent team, but the problem is that we don't know whether we are going to have this kind of strong team in the future WC or not. Hard luck to our team, who played exceptionally well in this tournament, and we hope we will recover soon. Well played, Australia, and congratulations on the 2023 World Cup.

Aus pro sporting teams have the sport psychology down pat. They would of recognized that all the pressure was on India and therefore played with no fear but aimed to increase the pressure on the other team with every bit of good play whether a boundary save, a dot ball when bowling and soul crushing boundaries when they were batting. There was an over when Bumrah, their number 1 striker came back and Travis dead deliberately targeted him with 2 scintillating boundaries and you could see from that moment in the faces of the Indian team that the game was completely gone at that point. I think when India do break through again, which is only a matter of time; that monkey being gone and it will help them to free themselves up. Australia were also 49/3 but they did not go into the shell. That's the difference. I really don't know when we will learn to play fearless cricket when early wickets fall when setting up a total. India were too defensive both in batting and bowling, Lack of slips, single saving wasn't there even for labus , when they started with shami it looked like target was low so they were going outright aggressive with best bowlers , but once when they got hit , we went too defensive. I don't know when we would even be able to come this far in the next 12 years given that ROKHO and many others are set to retire in the next 4 years. This could be one of the biggest blows to Indian cricket and I don't see us bouncing back anytime soon. I think it is best to lower our expectations (as Indian fans) for any of the future ICC tournaments. We need to once again rebuild the team from scratch. We would have to give it to the Aussie grit and determination for their ability to raise their game when it mattered the most. They did all of this in front of 1.3 lakh strong indian crowd. This is probably one of the greatest World Cup wins in their history (given everything was stacked up against them).

1. Partnership Between VK & KL cost us the game. We know VK was playing the Anchor role in all 10 games, KL should play aggressive game. KL should have targeted the 5th bowler. That might release pressure for us . KL not even took singles.
2. Siraj using the third bowler is a big mistake. He can't bowl slow bouncers or any variations like Shami.
We were too defensive in batting and bowling as well. We should have attacked in the field by keeping slip all the time.

Team like Auz never give importance for personal milestones that is the key for their success. When they dropped player like Mark Waugh in early 2000 it was surprising and shocker for me. His own brother Steve continued to play that too even as a captain.
I am not telling Indian players are playing only for personal records, but they are so much worried about their career/future (which is acceptable to an extend). But considering our huge population and bench strength hire and fire policy (contract basis) is much better than putting the player under constant threat of securing their own place.

We do see men coming back from a big injury lay off and come take down attacks like Travis Head did in this world cup. Ashwin could have taken the field considering he was always preparing every single game as if he was playing. All said and done, Ashwin did not play not because he was short on match practice, he did not play because the team management went with the winning combination. Cheeka feels it is a tactical error and I am sure some agree and some don't and in this case I agree with Cheeka - could be my own Ashwin bias 🙂

And Travis head and other Aus players are not gd at spin and he would have been control their scoring and it's a big stadium to hit boundaries and Aus were troubled by South Africa's partime bowler markram in semis...that's the reason.. do u get it.. and one more thing in test championship who hurt India... The same head.. who India dropped in the same xl it's Ashwin.... Both occasions India went to loose.. u need guts as a captain and team management to take brave decision at the right time in big occasions.. if u have no guts and patience u will never achieve anything in anyway.. it's a lesson to Indian cricket team and overall to anybody...

It is very hard to take this loss...We can forget everything, the lack of boundaries, the fielding, lack of 6th bowler, but not the defensive mindset we adapted when we were bowling. We were too timid! Considering the target we had set, we should have gone for the jugular from the start. 240 was definitely a sub par score since SKY did not fire at the end along with the tailenders to add another 30-50 runs. SKY once again proving that he is inept and immature when he is batting with the tailenders (remember England match?). He has a role in this team and he enters during the death overs. He is supposed to know how to rotate strikes and protect/handle the tailenders. Cannot understand why SKY is a part of our ODI squad! Subpar returns from his outings in ODI, especially in the CWC.
Something kept pricking at the back of my head about this unbeaten run to the finals. I would have preferred a loss to the Aussies in the opening match at Wankhede than a win at Chennai. The win at Chennai masked our weaknesses! I took a break from watching cricket after the WTC loss, screw the next home series against Aus......Who gives a flying F**K about that!

Only thing we got beaten even by pitch condition changed second half to play out easily as Head took all risks which missed by our side during our batting. That made the difference. Its really hurt not hating the team rather all our 45 days hard work performance which they put went in vain and hurt them also as they deserved to lift the cup. Once again many records, milestones can be broken, but,
Dhonis captaincy and performing in the big stage Dhoni is Dhoni his record in taking T20 2011 World Cup and Champions Trophy Cup stands unbroken.
I believe these are the points that were not in our way.
1. Lost the toss (it's not in our hand)
2. Aus chose to bat second (understanding the dew factors in the 2nd half).
3. Rohit has opened the floodgate, especially when he has already scored 6 and 4 and almost 12 runs in that Maxwell over. There is no need for him to take that risky shot, but someone will say this is the way that he has maintained throughout the tournament, which is not acceptable while playing in the final, which costs not only his wicket but also Shreyas wicket to fall cheaply.
3. Brilliant fielding from Aus, they kept us always under pressure. It seems like they are everywhere in the field. Excellent field placement by Cummins, which has made it difficult for us to take even a single run.
4. Changing the bowling combination: like Ani Bro said, we were going with the Bumrah and Siraj combinations throughout the tournament, but suddenly we are changing the rhythm. Siraj, who is a good new ball bowler, might have taken Head wicket when there is initial seaming assistance available if he had that chance(he is also good for left hander), which would have changed the result of the entire match. Shami can be used later as 3rd bowler, like we were doing; he can take wickets at any moment of the match. The initial 15 over is the key where we should have gotten those 5 wickets; after that, dew will come into play.
5. In the second half, we were not up to the mark in the keeping; KL cost over 12-15 runs, which should have been avoided, especially in a final like this.
Overall, we played well throughout the tournament, but we made a few mistakes in this final, which did not work in our favor. We are still an excellent team, but the problem is that we don't know whether we are going to have this kind of strong team in the future WC or not.
Hard luck to our team, who played exceptionally well in this tournament, and we hope we will recover soon. Well played, Australia, and congratulations on the 2023 World Cup.

My perspective India made two biggest mistake
Virat and Kl Rahul- didn't scored boundary, played so cautious. They must taken head nd Marsh at least 25-30 runs in their overs but they scored nly 9 runs out of 24 balls

Despite loss, this WC2023 team is one of the best ever. The loss came at the wrong time. Highest run scorer, highest wicket taker. Kohli wicket was the turning point. Rahul also had gone too much into a shell. They tried to go back to their tuk tuk then blast tactic but rahul got out. Still proud of this team
