Ringleader of the Tormentors is Morrissey's eighth solo album, which debuted at number one in the UK album charts and number 27 in the US. It also hit no. 1 in Sweden, Malta and Greece. Billboard described the album as showcasing "a thicker, more rock-driven sound"; Morrissey attributes this change in sound to new guitarist Jesse Tobias. The album was released on 3 April 2006 in most of the world and on 4 April 2006 in North America on the Attack Records label.
The photograph of Morrissey checking his watch whilst lying on the train tracks gets me every time. XD
its so good
easily in my top ten albums of all time. easily the greatest work morrissey has ever done
Bollocks
A masterpiece. Needless to say more.
Like all gone b4, top class moz👍👍👍
Blessed are the alone - for they shall SEE and HEAR - MORRISSEY - .
Who else comes up with witty, yet emotional lyrics like Moz? OMG he is genius and so overlooked as "miserablism" This guy tells life as it is and should be Prime Minister. There would be no mess.
Leonard Cohen? Jarvis Cocker? David Sylvian? The part about him being Prime Minister is ridiculous. "Life as it is" is not the same for everyone
Thank you Jessie for your beautiful full base for "In the future when all's well."
An under rated album in my opinion. There are some beautiful songs on this album. It's certainly better than Years Of Refusal. YOF had its moments but there were some weak chuggers on it, let's face it. Is it better than You Are The Quarry? I would say 'Yes', it's a more complete album, purely on the strength of "Dear God, Please Help Me" & "Life Is A Pigsty".
Late to reply to this but wanted to agree and add " To me you are a work of art" to your references. :-)
Morrissey hit another high point when he was in Italy
@@rattatouilletherat And getting in Ennio Morricone was a great thing...how the hell did he manage that?!!!
This is my favourite Morrissey album, not sure how popular that opinion is
+emma Theresa you know he's a quality artist when nobody knows what his best album is.
mine too. His best one indeed. I was floored the first time.
One of my favorites also. Personally Life is a Pigsty is one of my all time favorite songs
Years of refusal is clearly better.
tbh i think this album has two 10/10 songs - two of his best ever (you have killed me and life is a pigsty) and most of the others i enjoy as well plus this is the album that got me into morrissey when i was 15 - i don't think it's his best album though ..i think overall years of refusal is more consistent i'd rank this above his most recent two though which have been just okay for me (his new one is his worst album to date for me)
Not. One. Bad. Album.
yes I agree there all bad albums HE-HE
....is this his best work to date, or is it just me imagining?
This album either makes you feel something or it doesn't.
Is there a third option for anything?
People never post intellectual material in the comments section, but this has to be the laziest comment I've ever read.
Liberado un día como hoy pero de 2006. Fucking great.
OBRA MAESTRA
Why has this album been taken off iTunes?
OBRIGADA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
strange to hear Morrissey saying things like "living longer than expected" and "in the final hour of my life" given that he's still here 18 years later. He had a premonition that he was going to die at about 50 or something like that?
Loved some of the songs off this record, my favourite of his post the Arsenal-Vauxhall one-two in the 90s.
First hearing this in December 2023
a heavy albvm
MAYBE I SHOULD GRAB THAT TICKET.....
Little known fact he tutored Vanessa Mae on the Fiddle, when she was a hat check girl at the Whalley Range pole dancing club blahdeblahdeblah etc.
God music
With my heart on a string
first song makes me think of Sound Garden
XXX XXX XXX do I need to say more ? !
Only if you want to be comprehended. Your comment obviously wasn't worth sharing was it!
Spero ti piaccia....
All respect for Freddie Mercury , But I prefer Morrissey than him...
I'm not sure this is a more "rock-driven" album than Southpaw Grammar.
Running the risk of sounding pompous, I'd rather say that much of music is bass and drum-driven, with guitar adding further splashes of colour, intermingling with Morrissey's vocals
I'd say that's producer Tony Visconti's influence; he tends to start with the drums and bass as a foundation, and rests the other instruments on top of that. It's pretty similar to his T. Rex work, like Electric Warrior.
Morrissey has been too prolific since his break with the Smiths. If he'd had applied some quality control his solo output would have equalled if not surpassed his work with the Smiths.
The great songs got lost in the general filler, the albums don't stand out like the Smiths albums did as seminal works of art. All becomes much of a muchness.
Less is sometimes more as they say, especially when dealing with such dark themes. Even as a Moz admirer - I begin to turn off. Like some morose friend who, no matter how much you like - just gets too much.'
zJoking asides I am 58 and I have sung in many bands into most kinds of music but when I herd the smiths what a load of crap what a sad tit. Then he got reasonably famous and he fuckn started to piss me off after years hearing him droning on I though maybe im missing something so I went on a quest to study this band and there music I gave it about 6 months all the songs vid's of them and this is a person that get into a song straight away well maybe 3 4 times listening to a song. I am a happy person and my pints always half full coming to my conclusion a long painful end I came to my decision on the SMITHS that they are CRAP
To jack thelad,
The quieter you become, the more you are able to hear.
fred misiaszek
I wish that would aplly to MORRISSY
So ,you have a personal problem with Morrissey ?
Do you like the old reggae rock ?
fred misiaszek No I have a personal problem with inadequate performers and people that can not sing, and that greatly applies to morrissey YOU TIT
I never compare Moz's albums. I take them all as one beautiful work of sincere art. Pain never sounded so good. However, I love every single song on this album. If I had a favorite, it would be this one.
Not his best album but with songs like you have killed me, life is a pigsty, on the streets I ran, it definitely has some of the best singles I EVER heard.
Good album with great songs.Viva Morrissey. Thank you!
"I Will See You in Far-Off Places"
The more I ignore him the better he gets.
How would you know?
beatiful album, life s a pigsty.-
Life is a Pigsty for me too!

Ringleder of the tormentors: 8.9
+onionkiller66 7/10 for the first track ? that track is a tenner mate.
permaveg its only my opinion :)
+onionkiller66 I understand but I was just giving mine likewise, lol.
"To me you are a work of art" Is the best song of the album.
hot bath after work with a different morrissey album, in rotation every single week night is a little (kinda big :P) joy of mine
a great album
I love it!
Morrissey is a living god and I will love him to my dying day.
YAY...i LIKE HIM TOO.....BACK WHEN HE WASA BOY.
I hope you've changed your stance on that
He's a human like you😅
this is my favorite album from the Moz
Total masterpiece
***that crazy, earthy, creative bloke is meh BOY!! Gotta Love the Moz!***
a divine sepulchral lament written by a well-meaning narcissist. pure brilliance
I was with you until "narcissist". However, I'm glad to see one of my favorite words being used & on UA-cam of all places (sepulchral).
We’re has time gone. I still remember the day this was released; April 2006. I saw him twice at the Pasadena auditorium. Love this man and his music.
42:12 is that an ice cream 🍨 cone he’s holding in this picture?
Every time that I hear this album I think of a review that I read when it first came out, something to the effect of heaven knows Morrissey’s miserable now and we couldn’t be happier! This is one of my favorite albums not just of his but any artists.
Mr. Steven Patrick Morrissey 🔥🎤💪👊🤘😎
alternative...moz ...
Love Mozza, and contrary to current press critisms he is more important now than ever, this album is a real drag though, compared to Southpaw Grammar for example it's a tedious piece of work.
Southpaw, Maladjusted, Low in High School, fantastic, saw him in Brighton recently, have been watching him live since 1991,
and his voice in Brighton was the best ever. Tour again soon Moz.
Moz’s magnum opus, the warm Visconti sound is apparent & the last of the golden era of Whyte songwriting. 👏🏾
"To me you are a work of art" Brilliant. Whole album, really, but that song gets to me.
What is brilliant about that line? Any cunt could come out with that
LETS SO SOME MOTION...IN THE MEAN TIME.
All of morrisseys albums are great but the quality of the album covers vary
the bass is completly missing, what a shame, this album needs to be heard in all its glory, this might be just the best of a dozen brilliant bands Moz has assembled over 30 years xxxx
I would love to sit down with Morrissey, Stephen Fry and Nietzsche for a few lagers...
Fui fã do The Smiths antes de Morrissey. Mas hoje digo, Morrissey é maior.
pleasee Blondie MUCH better than Kristeen Young she s not able to play and she souts, pls learn from Kste Bush , she a good teacher.- in Milan everybody stayed out ot Arcimboldi theater because she was unearable.. than arrived Moz and everybody got in, .......Kristeen change job maybe u can make coffe.....maybe....
Debbie is overrated. EXENE, KRISTEEN YOUNG, woman who fronted PRETENDERS, TINA TURNER, GRACE JONES, lead female singer B52s...better by far. Save Rapture, BLONDIE is barely a blip in pop music history. And that's appropriate. Great edgy pop songs in an anti-pop era is claim to fame.
An okay album. Only "Dear God Please Help Me" is a standout masterpiece
" Life is a pigsty " ! I love it !
The Italian period. Love it!
and a masterpiece
Maybe because Toni Visconti produced it , this is a sophisticated album.
But i look forward to the concert rock versions!
but the ironic cover photo does not help.
The smiths
Pure class ❤
The production work is not as good as the other albums, the bass sounds distorted on every song
awkward ;)
God álbum
when it comes to morrissey, it's not even about being good at what you do but actually knowing what you're doing.
Now my heart feels free
Oh Morrissey 🖤
the music is okay, reminds me of late oasis, but the words and melody are crap, i will see you i will see you in far off places? is the shittiest lyric ever
+That Guy Don't be that guy :P
It's nothing special, agreed, but Oasis never wrong a single good song
This whole album is a BOP. Clock it the House.
Fuck this album's brilliant.
Did the BBC ban 'The Father Who..' ? As they were famous for banning anything slightly offensive I'm sure counselling to commit murder would fall into that category.
