Even just at my house w/ headphones on I can feel how crushingly loud this performance is. Swans must require the ear plugs of death to stomach in concert. Can't wait to see them when they eventually return
Swans give you the sensation that the sound is inside your skull, emanating from your brain. That's how loud they are - at least, that's how it was for me. Earplugs are a must, though they feel useless when the band are really going for it.
I met Michael Gira a few minutes after they came off stage and as he signed a CD he kinda nodded and smiled at me and said “I can’t hear a fucking thing.”
You guys are great. I’m working on it, and will keep you posted. But look, in the meantime, seriously, do check out other shows and videos on my channel, loads of great bands, with more to come out of storage. Also, my band, Lorde Awesome; totally worth checking out. Cheers from Toronto!
Yeah, sound in the red, how it should be. Most recordings are a bit too clean to bring across the loudness and the fucking dark unsettling frequencies Swans conjure up.
I’m not sure who I want to cover this version more: Tool or Devin Townsend. Because of how awesome this recording is, it doesn’t need a cover, but I’m still curious.
Norman's part follows the bass part. They play the same exact rhythm. You can hear him come in right at 30 seconds. I've just never heard a guitar make those noises before lol
@@EvilLadderGaming hmmm well I know he uses a vintage MXR blue box and a Boss DS-1. he plays a vintage Fender telecaster with a humbucker bridge pickup in it
this is one of the best live recordings i've ever seen holy fuck
28 years later, the Loudest band of earth is back.
I need this reenacted at my wedding this summer.
This is some of the heaviest shit I've ever heard holy fuck

I heard them once at 136 db peak level …

@@herakleitus Hahaha i love him. For some reason he never liked wearing earplugs.
God what I wouldn’t give for a Swans live album mixed to sound like this
Well Jake, I’m pretty sure I’ve got the whole show that this clip came from. I guess finding and uploading that’ll be a future project.
@@spacemetalizer Oh that would be absolutely fantastic, ive been listening to this specific "edition" of coward for a long time!
@@Matfis13cz I’ll see what I can do. Making note...

Closest they've come to recreating their early sound imo.
Well I know this is a year later but this is a song from their early era

How was this video uploaded on 2012 October 31, but filmed on 25/11/12?
Good question. Remind me to fire my copy editor.
@@spacemetalizer Was it filmed on 25/10/12, then?
Yup. Shot in October, not November.
Experimentators??? :)
It's too brutal to not be called "Metal". It's fng Noise-Metal
The old live footage the drums sound big and slick. Here small and raw. How about big and raw next time?
when she stops answering your text messages...
How brave!
Because who needs eardrums? No band is as punishing as Swans. Period. They should all be in prison for assault after this performance.
How do you even make a guitar sound like that?
The main riff? that's the bassline. Just turn your bass amp super loud and add some distortion. No reverb.
