Second episode in and I am blown away by the level of detail and engagement there is in this tutorial series. Finally someone who takes their time to sympathise with us noobs! Thank you Sir!!
omg so true... I generally hate note-taking games... I want to play and not "work".. but here so far I'm forgiving it, because even that part is fun! It's a really complex game, which rewards an intelligent thoughtful player. and I love it : )
Heya. 48:34.. It's orange because you're fanatic materialist and green if you choose the lesser one. In that situation, you should pick the 3rd option regardless of what the text says. This is because you're both authoritarian and some degree of materialist so you both have a lot in common. So you'll start off more favourable to them. Basically.. match your ethics with theirs for an opinion bonus.
Ok, we're into Stellaris 3.whatever by now, but I am really really enjoying this tutorial/play-through. It still seems up to date. You talk fast, but you speak clearly, and so it's easy to follow your explanations. The explanations are excellent. THANK YOU. Sidenote 1: there was a moment when you had ISS Tsiolkovski and you just brushed over the name. Tsiolkovsky was one of the visionary giants of getting humans into space - a name not to be disrespected! ;-) Sidenote 2: I love the spaceship with the torn sail. This is Stellaris tipping the hat to the novel "The Mote in God's Eye" - an outstanding SF novel by Niven & Pournelle. I am looking forward to finding more like that in the game.
Sorry about the Tsiolkovski Peter, but I tend to gloss over names I don't know how to pronounce, instead of butchering them on air. I suppose I could pause the video, go look up the pronunciation on Google, and resume, but that adds editing time to each video. I was just trying to be respectful by not hacking at the name. Cool to know the significance though; thank you!
Im new to o the game, roughly 3-4 days in, and your vids have done me a great service. I appreciate your time and effort to better explain the games functionality and how to best exploit these things for empire growth! This game is come to be, by far, one of my favorites.
I've played Stellaris since it came out...and yet here I am STILL learning more about it after all these years. I might not agree with Paradox' DLC business model...but it really is a good game. Thanks for the content ColorsFade!
I greatly dislike paradox dlc model but I will admit that I’m happy to buy the dlc because of the continued support and development that paradox games gets compared with majority of other companies
Late to the party, but it's so good seeing how much you don't have to zoom in to the systems. The first time I played I felt like I had to micromanage everything. Thanks for this series. I'm going to give Stellaris the fair shake that it deserves.
These are damn near fuckin perfect guides. Had the game over a year and just now got all the DLC's. Thanks for showing me how to maximize this games potential.
Same. I got it through humble, if im not mistaken and never got around to playing. Loaded it up on a whim and felt the need to search up some lets play with the daunting task ahead of me lol. This series is a huge help.
Can't believe I've taken this long to get into stellaris! This game is so detailed! Wish I new there was a grand strategy game like this year's ago. Also great video, you really present stuff in an easy to understand way.
I am really enjoying this 2.7.2 tutorial. I've watched a lot of your Stellaris content it is both entertaining and helpful. I'm not a new Stellaris player but I'm still learning a lot from these videos. Keep up the good work.
these are some amazing tutorials man! thank you! stellaris is my first-ever 4X game, and with your explanations it's a lot less intimidating than i thought it would be. having tons of fun and already taking things in my own direction a little bit :)
Slowly working my way through all your videos, learn something in every one! Good to know I can mostly ignore factions, there were a part of the game I hadn't put any energy in to.
I've been playing Stellaris for a little while now and I always like to watch Stellaris tutorials, especially this series as it covers the most up to dated version of the game. Myself, I always end up well beyond my sprawl limit I think my sprawl counter currently in a game is 432/119 and I'm negative 230ish energy and I constantly have to sell resources to keep up with my energy consumption. I'm probably going to fast but it all seems to happen rather quickly. To stay within the Empire sprawl from what I've gathered thus far playing the game is you can't grow to quickly...I don't know. I'm hoping by watching Stellaris tutorials I can figure out how to find my happy medium...for lack of better words. I just finished your first video in this series and I'm just starting this one. I'm really liking your format thus far. I wish I could send you that save game file for my most recent game with that insane sprawl 432/119 to see if there's a way out of that scenario. It's with that Federations content I recently purchased for like $10 on Steam with this most Winter sale. Picked up the Humanoid pack as well...$2.99 or $3.99. Any tips would help but I'm gonna keep watching this series to see if I can pick something up I've missed or a variable. Thanks for your work and insight.
I think if you watch, you might figure out how to do it Mr. Random. I, myself, prefer to expand as fast as possible. The trick, I believe, is to not colonize everything right away. Expand as far as you can, but save planets for colonization until you actually have the sprawl cap to do it. Do you have a save file you can send? Because if it's the same version as my game, I think I could try it.
These tutorials are fantastic THANK YOU! I think there is a small math error at 49:55, I am not sure if anyone brought it up. I think the numbers do add up for the faction because 12 + 18 is 40 and you have 40 there. Unless I am mistaken, then I'm just an idiot. Thank you again!
I picked this game plus all LDC's up for around 35 euro. Ever since I watch this tutorial for half an hour, try a game, fail again and go back to watching the tutorial. I will be at part 5 by the end of this year.
Love these videos!!!! 1 question here: 51:00 - Are the 'manage faction' mechanics still considered broken? as of 2021 April / pre-Nemesis (or post-Nemesis by next weekend)
I don't know if they're broken, but they're just not useful. You have to spend a LOT of Influence for basically no gain. Hence why I call them "broken." And yeah, it's still the same. If you have factions, just ignore them.
@@ColorsFadeGaming Yes I got that you meant the "broken" in quotes : ) Sad to hear they are still the same. Thank you very much for the quick answer though!
i understand the influence vs minerals decision with that event with the lens, but you traded 5 months worth of influence for 30 months of minerals. or one out post for 10 mineral stations. I cant see how that was the preferable decision given that you had 10x as much influence and less than twice as many minerals, especially when you said minerals are king. but im definitely a noob and stellaris has been an enigma to me for a while so I could be way off as far as priorities
I have hundreds of play of time on this game but still learning stuffs from you! Thanks buddy! Nice relaxing voice too! PS : I most of the time really never go to end game because i kind of feel bored after reaching mid game and always wants to restart a new game... any advices about this? :p
My experience with Stellaris players is that you're either a finisher, or you're not, and I'm not sure anything can be done to change something so innate in people. I'm a finisher. I like seeing the Victory screen pop. And I like the End-Game crisis events and the big wars. I enjoy conquering the whole galaxy and winning that way. So I tend to either play aggressively for a points win by the End Date, or I turn the End Date slider off and play for conquest. I finish every game. If you don't have it in you to go to the end, I'm not sure I can help. /shrug
@@ColorsFadeGaming Thanks for your reply. Maybe i should just try because i've never experienced end game crisis to be honest. I usually never research L-gate stuff as i don't want that they fuck me up.. haha Is there a way to win as a pacifist race? Because i feel like playing that way you just build a powerful stronghold and cross finger that you can hold the others aggression and the end game crisis haha. Anyway.. thanks you for your tutorial! What difficulty level (fair) do you recommend for experienced players?
@@gasgano5587 You can win as a pacifist, and perhaps I should do a play-through on that style. You basically want to 'turtle-up' and build choke points, and get as far ahead on tech as you can. With the end-game crisis, remember that the whole galaxy has to fight it, not just you. Sometimes you can get unlucky and have them appear mostly on your doorstep, but in a lot of cases they'll spread out all over the galaxy, and if you're playing a small pacifist faction, you only need to really worry about yourself early. Where it gets more complicated is with a War in Heaven. But again, that's a fun thing to deal with if you have the tech and ships.
19:09 can you explain further on Administrative offices? I'm playing the base game with a human species on a celestial empire government and I don't see Administrative offices in my buildings menu. I also didn't see Authrocron Monument but did see Temple I think it's the equivalent? Thanks.
Man, I'm on console because I'm poor. We don't have Administrative offices, but we still have empire sprawl. All this time I thought it was a negative bonus that you just had to deal with, but apparently you can fix sprawl only in the PC version.
So, on console you folks are basically the old PC 2.2. Back then, when we PC players didn't have admin buildings, we either played Small (erroneously called "Tall" by many) or Wide. I have a "Small/Tall" play here: ua-cam.com/video/FcPXqnIrs8o/v-deo.html. Check it out.
This series is amazing, I'm watching it as I play. I'm wondering if you find it more efficient to just skip any dead ends and beeline for choke points? I usually do that at the beginning to grow my border as fast as possible and then scoop up the other systems later on.
It depends on the map. The problem with skipping to choke points is that the AI can be very aggressive, and jump over it to claim systems. I try to get to chokes as fast as possible.
I just had an AI jump my chokepoint to take some systems I was trying to pocket. Of course tue only reasonable course of action was to take those systems back by force, but we were pretty evenly matched and spent so long fighting back and forth that the fanatic purifiers next door were able to successfully start eating away on my other border, and my fleet power couldnt compete.
Watching this because after returning to the new system i've gone through 3 empires, all of which i put myself into an economic death spiral by the year 2300.
love it you do you have played the game have my own guys but love your take on it and you do make great disiton good pointers to thanks for the shows great stuff keep up the good work thanks for your time with your tutorials as well learned a lot from them thank for the shows your the best !!!!
You should record more video from this game, when play a full game, with different races. I new to this game. Is nice to have some video on UA-cam, from some know how to play a game very well.
Magic 8-Ball says... "Doubtful" Stellaris is trending in a direction I don't care for. I'm likely to abandoned the game if the developers don't shift course.
@@ColorsFadeGaming Thanks for replying. Out of curiosity what about where it's going do you not like? I haven't looked at the patch notes for 3.3 so I'm not really aware.
@@TheFalconer27 They are changing the way Unity works, for one thing, but they are not doing it in a smart way (they're basically just transferring the burden from one resource to another without any thought or care for logic or lore). But what's worse, to me, is that they are reworking sprawl in such a way as to permanently penalize anyone who wants to build even a modestly large empire, let alone take over the galaxy like a Determined Exterminator, Hive, or Driven Assimilator would. Paradox seems intent on "fixing" things that aren't broken, and hindering a playstyle that not only makes sense for a lot of us, but is also wildly fun. Penalties suck, and when game companies decide to start making them a regular, inescapable part of the design, then I start to veer away from their work.
I have the problem, when I want to move my science ships to explore systems, I can just explore one system, and after that I have to give the ship another advice. I can’t make this exploration route your always doing with your ships. If I want to do it, the ship always prioritizes the last system I clicked on to explore. Could you help me with that? - Was a super video!
When you say I’m going to switch this or do that you click so fast I can’t see what your doing. In general though about the best newbi series I’ve seen.
Thanks. Sorry if I do things fast; I figure most people will slow the video down when they want, and pause it and stuff. I try to go slow (most of the comments I get, people actually think I'm too slow, and they tell me they speed up the video on UA-cam, so... I guess I can't please everyone? but I try!)
How can they put out a game like this and not have a tutorial explaining this.. How do they expect to attract player base? I uninstalled this and then after stumbling on this god tier tutorial I reinstalled. Thank you so much for this!!
Created like 4 new games just because I was so unlucky to get declararition of my destruction 3 times in a row... I just want to learn the game and not start with some kind of mental pressure that there is a a f ing war arround the corner...
TY. You explain it so very well. For my first playthrough, would it be a good thing to choose the smallest galaxy size with 3-4 other civs; just to avoid being overwhelmed?
Not necessarily. Even when you are playing on the largest galaxies, the geometry will limit how many neighbors you have. There are only so many hyperlanes in and out of your core systems, so you'll only ever have a couple of immediate neighbors. All those other factions on the other side of the galaxy are basically not a problem for you. The default settings are really good. 600 star system galaxy, Ensign difficulty, just put it on default (iron man for achievements) and play. And don't worry about not using Iron Man and reloading saves; you can recover from a lot of errors in this game, and recovering will teach you things. And if you get destroyed, start over and learn some more.
I played stellaris when it came out and i always had the feeling my start was bad however the longer the game took i started to be better than AI. now i came back and i lose all my wars. i get crushed. i looked for ship builds etc. i have more ships but somehow they always counter my comp. horrible feeling. i start now my 4th game in the last 4 days xD
Question the second: How on earth do you catch up in terms of your military? I've got a good campaign going in terms of territory I own but despite researching up to destroyers and trying to build up my fleet with all the alloy I have spare after claiming sectors I'm still massively behind. Is there a certain point where you just need to stop claiming the areas inside what you've boxed off and build up a huge fleet till you can compete? as I'm worried if I do that I'll just end up with a fleet I can't afford and while make me struggle to claim the other sectors in order to help affording it.
It's a balancing act that is, IMO, dictated to some degree by how hostile your neighbors are. If they're really hostile, you need to focus on Alloys and ships and financing the war machine sooner. If your neighbors are not hostile (perhaps via Envoys) then you buy yourself more time to simply expand and colonize. Keep in mind, the game's descriptions of empire power are easily shifted with a few ships early in the game. As an example, in a recent play I just started, three corvettes changed my enemies from being "overwhelming" to "superior". That's how much of a different a few ships can make early. If you're in the Destroyer phase, a couple fleets can make all the difference.
@@ColorsFadeGaming At this point I'm not even sure what to think though as they claimed a few of my territories the second I met them, and have hated me more and more ever since while being overwhelming in strength in comparison, but for some reason they have never attacked me. I did put a fully kitted out base on my 1 border though, does that not count toward military thus it's actually no as bad as it looks as they couldn't fight that and my fleet?
Question: What ratio of science - construction do you need early on? I've been going for more of a 1-1 (got another science then another const) as otherwise the systems just sit there not being worked, or is it better to explore as far out as you can then setup starbases from the chokepoints and work your way back in.
IMO, the latter, because real estate is finite, and not every planet you encounter will be green habitable. Once all the available star systems have been claimed, the only way to get more is war.
Nope, anomalies are individual to each empire. There are certain events that other empires might be able to steal from you, but enemy empires can't research your anomalies and steal them.
why is your stations [like mines or energy stations so cheap? ... I pay 100 minerals for each station - its difficulty or what?] Great LP-guide, thank you for it.
In the first episode, my stations were 100 (Research) and 150 (Mining). I'm guessing somewhere along the way I picked up a tech/bonus of some sort that made them cheaper.
I have a game with all civilizations stuck in one corner of the galaxy. They locked me in and they have all space to expand over the galaxy. Is there any solution other than start over? It costs just too much influence to outpost-jump over them.
So, here's my recommendation: play through it. Because even playing LESS THAN IDEAL starts will teach you things about the game, and strategy. I've had some bad starts, but they taught me a lot. And it's possible to overcome a bad start like that. And if you DO, then you're going to feel great about it.
@@ColorsFadeGaming Its like chess. You learn more from the bad positions and tough defeats than easy wins. And battling back in a bad position is always very satisfying.
Second episode in and I am blown away by the level of detail and engagement there is in this tutorial series. Finally someone who takes their time to sympathise with us noobs! Thank you Sir!!

Ecumenopolis is in the Megacorps DLC.
That's good to know. I had no idea which DLC it was in, and I would have assumed Utopia or Apocalypse.
love it you do you have played the game have my own guys but love your take on it and you do make great disiton good pointers to thanks for the shows great stuff keep up the good work thanks for your time with your tutorials as well learned a lot from them thank for the shows your the best !!!!
Cool, thanks!
Casus belli = a reason to got to war
Man I'd love to see you start with a shattered ring homeworld!
I did, but I can't remember what play-through it was. Pretty sure it's on my channel. And if not, that might be the next video series :)
You should record more video from this game, when play a full game, with different races. I new to this game. Is nice to have some video on UA-cam, from some know how to play a game very well.
Love this video series, it's very helpful for a newer player! Any plans on doing something similar when 3.3 comes out this month?
Magic 8-Ball says... "Doubtful"
Stellaris is trending in a direction I don't care for.
Hold shift when giving commands, and it queues them.
@@ColorsFadeGaming Thank you, this video saved my glorious empire ;)!!!
At 59:08 you chose an ascension perk, can you change it later? Or chose another one?
No, you cannot change them. So Ascension perks need to be something you plan ahead for.
@@ColorsFadeGaming oh, okay! thank you!
Nice content by the way :)
I guess I can't please everyone? but I try!)
@@ColorsFadeGaming Yes I often pause the video and study what's going on in more detail.
How do you get the outliner menu on the right of the screen? Mine doesn’t have that
@@ColorsFadeGaming TY
@@ColorsFadeGaming cool thanks 🙂
hah! The font really is a struggle at times.
do i build a starbase to every system ?
If you leave an anomaly to research later can the ai come around and steal it from you?
Nope, anomalies are individual to each empire. There are certain events that other empires might be able to steal from you, but enemy empires can't research your anomalies and steal them.
So I've been having problems keeping my empire sprawl low any tips or tricks for that??
Build Bureaucracy buildings.
I never build the monument or the other building you made for your first 2 buildings
You don't like Traditions?
@46:42 exotic gasses or exotic asses? LOL
I think this game might be beyond me, unfortunately.
All you need is some practice and motivation
@@reclusiarchgrimaldus1269 like life itself.
why is your stations [like mines or energy stations so cheap?
@@ColorsFadeGaming thanks! That’s what I’ll do 🚀
@@Sadowsky46 I suggest getting good standings with them so you can get open borders
