I barely had 6 weeks of Salsa lessons when I went to my very first social party. Shorty after that, I saw your "Salsa tips for men & women: When am I ready to go social" video. Then I realized the best way to progress is to go social, which I did. Especially Scarlet's tip to try a move out and go back to your instructor if you can't get it right, really helped. To my own surprise, some of the experienced dancers were surprised I already went social with barely 3 months of class. I have received thumbs ups (you know what I mean) for being that brave. I'll stick to, eager to dance, eager to learn. ;-)
Nicely done Joeline! When you're new to something you'll never feel like it's the "right" time, you just have to be brave and go do it. Keep up that attitude and you'll go far!
My first social dance is this Friday. This video was very encouraging.
Awesome, go without expectations, relax and enjoy :)
How'd it go
I went after the first lesson to the social after. I learnt so much talking to people and people showed me a lot of things. As a lead, I think a basic step is pretty important though. I'd say that's probably the prerequisite.
Absolutely, but once you have the basic step it's great to get out there. Nicely done!
This video helped me go through my first social. Thanks, Patrick!
Nicely done!
1 week of lessons is all I had
Great advice! Thank you Patrick....
Glad it was helpful!

It's been almost 2 years since I started attending Brazilian zouk classes regularly. Still too anxious to go to any party :( Probably I'm not meant to dance...
I guess the question is why are you anxious? if it's due to lack of confidebce in what you know, increase that (it's probably not this one). if its anxiety because you've never actually gone to a social before go with some people you know from class and dance with them. if it's anxiety for social situations in general maybe talk to a psychologist. Either way we can all benefit from having a mental coach! our brains are complex :) -robin
Is it compulsory for females to wear heels for salsa?
Nope. you can wear what ever you're comfortable in, heels or flats, but we highly recommemd shoes meant for dancing, especially as a follow, because you'll be spinning lots - a sole meant for dancing makes spins easier and you'll save your knees! -Robin
@@thedancedojo thank u I will buy dancing shoes after quarantine 😊👍🏻
Oh wow, no idea it took you that long to go social dancing, although I have to say, I was a scaredy cat too lol
Some people take a lonnng time! And it's a shame because the sooner the better, so we try and encourage it as much as we can. We're all big scaredy cats!
