The correct opinion is , that Photography is not Haram. Dr. Fareed Al Ansiri al Maghribi explains this: There are 2 objections to Photography; 1. Trying to imitate the creation of Allah. 2. Shirk or Idolatry. So let us deal with the first one, there is no copying the creation of Allah because the camera is not able to create anything, all it does is reflect with a mirror, the camera has a mirror inside it to capture the scene ( nature or whatever ) on its own it is not able to create anything. Only Allah is the creator. Also, the Shaykh is not knowledgeable in this regard. If camera were to be Haram, than the camera that filmed him in this clip would also be Haraam. And looking in the mirror would also be Haraam. Going to the hospital to make an Echo would also be Haraam. So please, use your brain. Instead of listening to foolish fatwas of people who have no knowledge in this regard. This is called Tahqeeq Al Manaat .. to have knowledge of the reality. So when it comes to Fiqh, people must have knowledge in this regard which the Shaykh does not have. Also, what happens scientifically inside a camera , in all its forms, is not Tasweer ( Image creation ) rather it reflects the image! Therefore the correct term is 'Aakis (image-reflector ) and not Musawwir ( Image creator ) because only Allah is Al-Musawwir. So the ones who forbid this ( which are many of the Huffaaz and Fuqaha ) should also then forbid looking in the mirror, because the principle is exactly the same. What happened here is that unfortunately many of the scholars have misunderstood the essence of Photography. Some scholars are very huge scholars in their fields, but they have zero knowledge of Modern technologies. May Allah guide those who forbid Photography. Second Objection is Shirk. This is possible, that is why the Islamic ruling states that Pictures should not be hung on a wall or in a high place, to exalt in in this manner is Haraam.
