    • @SarahTypes
      @SarahTypes  7 років тому

      You can put pretty much anything! Watercolour, calligraphy ink.. or you just load up the back with water and dip it in an ink of choice. I find the second method the easiest because you can switch up the colours easier. It depends on the look your going for as well. For watercolour I would just use water and then dip it in the water colours from a palette.

    How does the tracing paper respond to wet ink (like pentel pocket brush, etc)? It looks like it bleeds a bit - is that what you scanned for your final copy? If you used cardstock or other paper, would there be less cleanup in illustrator?
    Also, have you ever done this to create a typeface to use on the computer, or is it better for each lettered image to be hand made from scratch?

    • @SarahTypes
      @SarahTypes  7 років тому +1

      Hey Jamie! Tracing paper is actually nice with the brush pens because it doesn't damage the brush (cause fraying), I think it depends on what kind you buy because I've had some that bleed and some that didn't. If I'm going to put something on paper to scan into my computer I use the marker paper from Canson or a high end printing paper 24#laserjet or 32# laserjet. I have created a type face to use on the computer, I wrote out all the letters and then used tracing paper to perfect them and also used a light pad so I could put regular paper over the tracing paper and re-draw it on the good paper. Creating your own font is A LOT of work and a big process! But basically I wrote out the alphabet using a grid so everything lined up and then scanned it into my computer and used a font software to create it!

    • @JamieClark
      @JamieClark 7 років тому

      Sarah Types Thanks for the reply - I'll try out some tracing paper with my brushes and see how it goes (Pentel, Kuretake fudegokochi, Sakura Pigma brush).
      I guess it would be fun and cool to have made my own typeface, but if I were to use it on invitations or greeting cards, it would probably be not much different than using any downloaded "hand lettered" font... Part of the charm is that someone actually wrote out an invitation or card or envelope, right? Instead of it being printed off by the dozen...

    Are all those pens you mentioned at the start refillable or disposable?

    • @SarahTypes
      @SarahTypes  7 років тому +2

      Hey! :) I have a list of them in the description and only 2 are refillable. The water brush is 100% refillable as you can put more ink in the back or water and then just dip it into watercolour paint. The pental brush is sort of refillable, you buy a new cartridge and re-use the brush part. You can also dip this pen into a calligraphy ink because it's just like a paint brush.

      Sarah Types I know you have a Procreate tutorial up already, but could you do more videos on apps you use to create with the iPad? • @kaylanniee
      @kaylanniee 7 років тому

      You know how in one of your videos you vectorize your lines in photoshop? The only way I've found to clean up lines is to zoom and fix them with a smaller pen and eraser. By other tips i mean by little things you might do to try perfect your work.
