Peles Castle was hands down one of the most beautiful castles we've had the opportunity to visit in Romania! Have you visited any of the castles in Romania? If so which was your favorite? We hope you enjoyed exploring Peles Castle with us, thanks so much for watching :)
Hi guys! Loved Peles Castle. My husband and I were never really interested in Eastern Europe until seeing it through your eyes! Romania is beautiful. Will definitely have to follow in your footsteps! Looking forward to your next video. Safe and happy travels!
Thank you so much, Delsia! We are really enjoying Romania. It is definitely a destination to add to your list of places to go. We were questioning spending two months here but are finding that we won't have enough time. We have another 4 weeks and already know will be back someday. Thank you for watching!!! Cheers!!!🍻
That is an amazing castle. I can't believe it...over the top woodwork. Looks like you enjoyed the beers there. Enjoy guys. Looks like the weather is awesome there.
Hi, James! It was an amazing castle! We had a great day in Sinaia as well. It was hot so we enjoyed the beers even more than we usually do!! Cheers!!!🍻
Wow, wow! Great video guys. I had a colleague, many years ago, originally from Romania and on her way back to NYC she brought back souvenirs from the castle (as well as Romanian wine). I always wondered what it looked like. Really nice to finally see this beautiful, impressive castle and surrounding town. Don't know if I'll ever get to go to Romania, but I really appreciate your videos as it gives such a wonderful glimpse into places in Europe that are less travelled.
Thank you! Hopefully, you can, someday, get to Romania. We are actually surprised by what we are finding here. It is truly a beautiful country. Thank you for the comment and for watching!! Cheers!!!🍻

Looks like you missed Sinaia Monastery. Is on the way to the palace but looks like you took the way around it . Is a beautiful place worth stopping by . The little palace Pelisor is more home like , less grand more livable but it has a room totaly covered in gold . Is definetly worth visiting . Corvin Castle in Hunedoara is bare inside mostly but is a proper medieval castle, like the one in stories . Very impressive arhitecture. Alba Iulia a great fortress . Sighișoara is a wonderful farytale little medieval town . There are amazing monasteries in Oltenia region . If you have time go to Horezu Monastery, Cozia Monastery . They also make traditional pottery in Horezu . Caves and traditional fortified houses near by too . That will be something most people dont film in România. If you are near Constanța or Tulcea on 15 August is Saint Mary day , the Navy Day and there are big celebrations in all port towns . Moldova has great monasteries near Suceava and Neamț . If you are near a salt mine try it
This is great Maria!! We wish we hadn't missed the Sinaia Monastery!! We will not miss a few of the places that you have mentioned, however! We were able to borrow a car while in Sebes and explored Alba Lulia, so glad we decided to stay. We are now in Cluj and will be heading to Oradea and Timisoara in the coming weeks. We try to see everything we can using public transportation so sometimes we aren't able to see everything we would like to. Thank you for all the information and for watching our channel! Cheers!!!🍻
Yes! We did go to Bran and stayed in Sighisoara for a few days. We are now in Sibiu and headed to Cluj, Oradea, and Timisoara in the coming weeks. Beautiful country! Thank you for watching! Cheers!!!🍻
Romania had never crossed our minds to travel too. You have changed that thought. Romania is now a must see. Thank you for the great videos. Do you have sense that crowds are less because of the Covid or just a not a high on the list destination? I sure hope you enjoy making these videos as much as we enjoy seeing them.
Hi guys, i guess you've missed the royal crown of king Carol I while visiting Peles...the interesting real story was that this crown was made out of Turkish canon iron steel, captured by the Romanian army while fighting for independence at 1877 against Otomans....this crown drawing has also been inserted on the Romania's flag and coins between 1881 and 1947; also, Peles castle was the first castle in Europe to have electricity, own heating system and vacuum cleaner at the time
Great information Gigi! We did miss it, it appears, so many things to see! Love the history, thank you for adding this to the channel, and thank you for watching!! Cheers!!!🍻
True , the crown was made from captured ottoman cannons While Romania had and still has gold reserves, King Carol considered the steel witch won independence more rare than gold. And yes the crown is in the National History Museum in Bucharest
, no problem. When King Carol I of Romania decided to make his summer residence in this place, the area developed. Then, here was only the monastery, which unfortunately you missed. Have a nice trip in our country!!!!
Awww...We have had numerous suggestions to go to Iasi and unfortunately we won't be able to make it in that direction. However, it does give us a good reason to come back to Romania in the near future! Thank you for the suggestion and for watching!! Cheers!!🍻
Hello, Romanian here, from my knowledge, there are 3 main castles in Romania: Peles Castle (Sinaia), Bran Castle (Bran) and Corvine Castle (Hunedoara). I am planning to visit Corvine Castle since it is far away and I want to see It but out all of them, Peles is the best. I am curious to see if you visit all of them :))
We made it to Bran as well and it is worth visiting but Peles Castle was by far better of the two. We won't make it to Corvine Castle. By train, it is three hours from where we will be and that's a bit too far for a day trip. We will see...Thank you for the comments and for watching our channel!! Cheers!!!🍻
Peles is actually a palace rather than a castle. Corvin and Bran were/are Medievel castles. Proper Medieval castles worth visiting are also Fagaras Castle, Suceava Castle and Neamt Castle (the last two being in N-E of Romania.
@@DukeOfTheYard Bran was a Defensive Castle rather than a liveable one. Peles was built with the purpose of living in and the Corvine Castle has a similar story I think, it is very old tho
Once again a great video. We've noticed when we travel even when we indulge in more of the local beer and food we have lost weight due to all the activities, diving and walking..... Do you find it that way for both of you? Do you plan additional exercise time to continue the lifestyle....
Hi, Larry. We do a lot of walking, and when we stay in one location for a month at a time we do additional exercise. We have maintained our weight so far!! Great question!! Thank you for the continued support. Cheers!!!🍻
Very similar to Leavenworth WA. We actually made that comparison when we walked into Brasov for the first time. The area with the mountains and green landscape really reminds us of home!! Thank you for watching!! Cheers!!!🍻
Too bad you did not want to see Pelisor ("Little Peles"), you would have been surprised. I loved it much more than the big castle. It's a lot less spectacular, but a lot cozier. Like a true family home, not a museum.
Hi, DeeDee. We probably should have gone to see the Pelisor. By that time of day, we were ready for some food and drink and weren't thinking right. 😀 Thank you for watching!!! Cheers!!!🍻
@@BrianandCarrie Pelisor was built at the order of Princess Mary (later Queen Mary) of Romania. She hated Peles' style, considering it too opressive and dark. Thus she had Pelisor built which is made (on the inside) in Mediteranean (particularly Italian) style: less carvings, more light, white furniture etc.
@@BrianandCarrie Hello dears ! I like very very much your videos ! Amazing ! If u are in Sibiu, go also nearly, in Sighisoara ! You will love the city ! Hugs !
We are finding that two months in Romania won't be enough time!! We won't make it in that direction this time around. We will be back soon enough. We love Romania!! Cheers!!!🍻
If some of you guys are also video games enthusiasts, Peles Castle is the sole inspiration for creating Castle Dimitrescu from Resident Evil 8, which also takes place in Romania!

Hello to you both! Nice videos! If you are planning to stay for a little bit more, try to get to the next places that I'm going to tell you about. The first would be the Transfagarasan Highway. Built in the 70's (in case of an invasion), it goes from Wallachia to Transylvania. The second would be the Transaplina. This one originaly built by the romans around 104 to conquer the Dacians (our ancestors), than rebuilt in the 1930's and modernised around 8-10 years ago. Third one would be the remainings of this Sarmizegetusa Regia (the City and Castle of Dacians) - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sarmizegetusa_Regia. Wish you all the best!
This is great information, Andrei. We will be in Romania for another month, however, we won't have a car. We are traveling by train or bus so getting to some places is difficult. We are finding out that two months is not enough time to see everything Romania has to offer. Thank you again for adding this information to the channel! Cheers!!!🍻
We made it to Bran castle but we decided not to do a video. Cool place, we just didn't have the quality material we wanted. We missed Mogosoaia Palace, we wish we had gone. 😔 Thank you for watching! Cheers!!!🍻
Curious facts : Peles Castle belongs to the Royal Family and there's a protocol signed with the State to allow visitors. Romania is now a republic but the Royal Family continues to live in the country. It has repatriated after the fall of the communism.
I laughed right after you said 10 min .. kind of yeah yeah right.. you will regret not taking a cab 🚕 🤪… it is the most beautiful castle of Romania but as well one of the most beautiful in the whole world.. there are other castles prettier on the outside but empty on the inside..i’ve had tourists from all over the world saying it and they visited a lot of the world castles before coming to Romania as this is not usually a top destination.. you come here once you’ve seen the rest of the world 🤓..you were lucky because until a few years ago filming and taking pictures was forbidden in the castle..
I (Brian) always regret not taking a cab!! We did love the castle and the town of Sinaia as well. We haven't seen many castles to this point of our journey but wouldn't expect any to be as majestic as this. Thank you for the continued support!! Cheers!!!🍻
@@BrianandCarrie is not really that far you just took the longer route , if I remember well there is a shorter road by the war heroes monument. But.. all is uphill 😅 so probably makes all look longer

We do sometimes wish we had spent extra to see and do more but for now, we have to stay within our budget as much as possible. Thank you for watching and commenting on our channel!! We appreciate the support!! Cheers!!!🍻
Peles Castle is not a place where it is worth cutting the budget. :O You should cut some beer or a dinner out instead. Pelisor is different in style because is the Queen's castle. Sinaia Casino is also an interesting building.
Great question. Renting a car this time of year is about $190 for 3 days. With insurance and fuel adding to the cost it is out of our budget. There have only been two occasions that we wished we had a car when we were in Portugal and now here in Romania. Unfortunately, a car just isn't in the budget for now. Hopefully someday soon! Thank you for watching! Cheers!!🍻
@@BrianandCarrie That’s weird. We are thinking about visiting Sighisoaria in Sept and when we look at rentals out of Bucharest, they are $8-10 a day for a compact.

Thank you for the recommendations. We won't make it to that region this time around but we are sure to be back to see everything that we are going to miss! Thank you for watching.
Cheers!!!🍻
nice video , go on Bran Castle , Sighisoara also Timisoara and Cluj city!
Yes! We did go to Bran and stayed in Sighisoara for a few days. We are now in Sibiu and headed to Cluj, Oradea, and Timisoara in the coming weeks. Beautiful country! Thank you for watching!
Cheers!!!🍻
Awesome video, make sure you guys visit Sibiu and Cluj-Napoca
Thank you! We are in Sibiu now and heading to Cluj-Napoca next!! Thank you for watching!!!
Cheers!!!🍻
@@BrianandCarrie Not to forget Oradea in the west side of Romania...but wow.... cannot wait to see the next videos...Cheers
We will be in Oradea also!!
@@BrianandCarrie Try also Sighisoara ! You will find very very nice ! Is near Sibiu, on your way to Cluj !
Cheers!!!🍻
The crown in question is not in Peles, it is kept in the National History Museum in Bucharest.
@@DukeOfTheYard it seems i was lucky...i saw it at Peles a few years ago, maybe they brought it there for a short period of time..
True , the crown was made from captured ottoman cannons
While Romania had and still has gold reserves, King Carol considered the steel witch won independence more rare than gold.
And yes the crown is in the National History Museum in Bucharest
Peleș Castle în Romania - Wallachia !!!!
Thank you for the correction!! We are working on it!🙂
Cheers!!!🍻
, no problem. When King Carol I of Romania decided to make his summer residence in this place, the area developed. Then, here was only the monastery, which unfortunately you missed. Have a nice trip in our country!!!!
We are loving your country, thank you so much for the information! Not sure how we missed the monastery. 😔
@@BrianandCarrie In fact is near Peles Castle. The monastery is also impresive
U must visit IASI - IASSY , the most beautiful city in Romania and it is the second largest in Romania after Bucharest
Awww...We have had numerous suggestions to go to Iasi and unfortunately we won't be able to make it in that direction. However, it does give us a good reason to come back to Romania in the near future! Thank you for the suggestion and for watching!!
Cheers!!🍻
@@BrianandCarrie Iași is a treasure
Cheers!!!🍻
@@BrianandCarrie Cheers 🍻
Peles is actually a palace rather than a castle. Corvin and Bran were/are Medievel castles.
Proper Medieval castles worth visiting are also Fagaras Castle, Suceava Castle and Neamt Castle (the last two being in N-E of Romania.
@@DukeOfTheYard Bran was a Defensive Castle rather than a liveable one. Peles was built with the purpose of living in and the Corvine Castle has a similar story I think, it is very old tho
@@DukeOfTheYard Neamnt, Suceava and Fagaras ones are more citadels than castles (literally their names have the name "Citadel")
Cheers!!!🍻
How similar is the town to Leavenworth WA? The architecture reminds me of s Bavarian look.
Are you also going to sibiu, I would like to see this town.
We are in Sibiu now!!! We will have a video out in the next couple of weeks!! Thank you for watching!!
Cheers!!🍻
@@BrianandCarrie Hello dears ! I like very very much your videos ! Amazing ! If u are in Sibiu, go also nearly, in Sighisoara ! You will love the city ! Hugs !
Come to Suceava! 🙏
We are finding that two months in Romania won't be enough time!! We won't make it in that direction this time around. We will be back soon enough. We love Romania!!

And Timisoara is to visit in the west of the country and is the city where Johnny Weissmuller who played Tarzan was born.
We will be in Timisoara in the coming weeks!! Thank you, Brad!
Cheers!!!🍻
If some of you guys are also video games enthusiasts, Peles Castle is the sole inspiration for creating Castle Dimitrescu from Resident Evil 8, which also takes place in Romania!
Did not know this!! Very cool!!
Hi Brian and Carrie, LOVE your video so much. Curious: will you be traveling to Sighisoaria?
Yes! We will be, that video will be out in a couple of weeks!!
Cheers!!!🍻
@@BrianandCarrie I am 66 years old and my grandpa immigrated to the states from Sighisoaria when he was 19. Would it be possible for me to send you a couple pictures of him along with a little family background and you see if any relatives in Sighisoaria recognize and remember our family? I know it’s a small town and I’m sure there are still many relatives there.
We were in Sighisoara a couple weeks ago. Sorry that we can't help. 😔
Next destination in Oradea?
We will be in Oradea in a couple weeks. We were in Sighisoara before arriving in Sibiu and will be in Cluj-Napoca before we go to Oradea.

It was mid-morning so don't really know. We just got lucky!

stop 5:50 Romania was a kingdom between 1867-1947 , in this painting is King Carol I of Romania (1867-1914), origins from House of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen (Germany)
then in 1947 was brutal ended by soviet USSR , forcing King Michael to abdicate in 30 december 1947 , Stalin imposed a communist regime here , Romania was occupied by russians until 1958 (Red Army stationed here between 1945-1958)
Romania was abducted in the sphere of influence of Moscow from 1945-1989 becoming a "satellite" of USSR

Sarmizegetusa ruins of the old Dacia capital would make a great video
Thank you!!♥
Hello to you both!

Bran Castle and Mogosoaia Palace...
We made it to Bran castle but we decided not to do a video. Cool place, we just didn't have the quality material we wanted. We missed Mogosoaia Palace, we wish we had gone. 😔 Thank you for watching!

Curious facts : Peles Castle belongs to the Royal Family and there's a protocol signed with the State to allow visitors. Romania is now a republic but the Royal Family continues to live in the country. It has repatriated after the fall of the communism.
Nevermore academy tour

@@BrianandCarrie is not really that far you just took the longer route , if I remember well there is a shorter road by the war heroes monument. But.. all is uphill 😅 so probably makes all look longer

@@BrianandCarrie Hope you enjoyed the stay in romania... and thank you for the video really helps to show romania is a nice tourist destination
Peles Castle is not a place where it is worth cutting the budget. :O You should cut some beer or a dinner out instead. Pelisor is different in style because is the Queen's castle. Sinaia Casino is also an interesting building.
I see renting a car is really cheap in Romania. Just curious, why did you guys not rent a car?
Great question. Renting a car this time of year is about $190 for 3 days. With insurance and fuel adding to the cost it is out of our budget. There have only been two occasions that we wished we had a car when we were in Portugal and now here in Romania. Unfortunately, a car just isn't in the budget for now. Hopefully someday soon! Thank you for watching!

@@BrianandCarrie That’s weird. We are thinking about visiting Sighisoaria in Sept and when we look at rentals out of Bucharest, they are $8-10 a day for a compact.
