  • Brushed 550-27t VS 540-17t motor in a 10th scale monster truck.
    I want to go brushless with this truck but I’ll test a bit more with brushed motors to help people that want to stay with a brushed setup.
    This is the Vampire Ghost 4wd 1/10 Scale monster truck. I’ll be changing this pretty soon to a 3650 brushless 3650 2300KV and the Radiolink RC6GS. First I’ll try one more 550 motor with a lower turn count.
    Radiolink RC6GS

    I don't know my car is so 20mph sounds impressive! That's a nice little jump from the first motor. Fun watching those sharp turns! The cars we used to have as kids always flipped over. They've come a long way. Nice looking truck too! Thanks for sharing. Hope you're having a great day. Stay safe!

      Thanks for stopping by! It’s not too bad for the type of truck it is. The car I tested last week ran 50 mph. I’m really curious to see what the brushless motor is going to do once I get it installed. I just need to test one more brushed motor for the people that want to see what the potential of the car is without having to go brushless.

      It just depends on what a person wants to do with the car. They have an RC car that’s officially gone over 200mph. That severely limits where you can drive it. 😂😂

      I haven’t run that car so I’m not sure what all the options would be. You should be able to go with a lower turn motor for more RPM and then go with a smaller pinion. That should keep your speed close to the same but give a bit more torque.

    So the lower the T number on a brushed motor, the better the motor is ???

    • @RCModSquad
      @RCModSquad  3 роки тому

      I wouldn’t call it better. The “T” is for turns in the motor windings. A lower T motor will give more RPM per volt so more speed but less torque.
      The rock crawler folks will use a 65t motor. It gives a lot more torque but a lot less top speed. They are more interested in power and control than speed.
      Lower turn motors also require a lot of power so if you go to a 10t motor in say a 144001 it will overheat the stock ESC.

    • @RCModSquad
      @RCModSquad  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks for stopping by and your question.
      In general yes! I higher turn gives more power and less RPM. As an example the folks doing rock crawling will get a very high turn (35t-80t) motor to add torque and make it more controllable.
      Lower turn motors give more RPM per volt but require more amperage so it requires a higher amp ESC.

    I have to ask , is there a 100T brushed motor? Why do ppl still go for brushed motors? I don't get it...

    • @RCModSquad
      @RCModSquad  Рік тому

      Here is an 80t amzn.to/45NmBWg and HBX does offer a 100t brushed motor.
      High turn brushed motors are popular to use in crawlers. They give a lot of low end torque and more control at lower speed.

      @@RCModSquad thanks you too . I subbed your channel btw , doesn't cost anything 🫡
      So , in rc for dummies , one unit of whatever comes out of the battery will take 100 turns to get to the other side , that means 17t motors are therefore faster in speed but low torque/muscle .
      On brushless , less kV means more torque and more kV less torque but much more speed .... So pretty much the opposite of one another ... well I guess both have their pros and cons...
      Have fun today , hope it's sunny where you live. Greetings from Germany

      Hey Cory. I don’t really have any larger scale stuff I’ve worked with. If you’re interested in 1/18 scale I have a few I’ve tested. Most of those don’t have real shocks, the just have a set of springs on them. I do have a red cat which would be more into the official crawler category but I have had time to run it yet.
      Here is a pretty decent starter truck if you ok with 1/18 scale. ua-cam.com/video/8GMTVwHTf98/v-deo.html

    how long would it take you to change the pinion on the 27t 550 for a pinion with 2 or 3 more teeth ??

    • @RCModSquad
      @RCModSquad  3 роки тому

      I don’t know of any 27 to 30 tooth pinion that are MOD .7 gears.
      The only way to do it would be to change the spur and pinion to MOD1 or 32p gears.
      The stock motor mount isn’t adjustable so you would have to change the motor mount to set the gear lash.

      @gatti493 3 роки тому +1

      @@RCModSquad fair enough I don't know or own that particular car,
      My first port of call for more speed would always be to alter the gearing especially on a 550 with low down grunt 😉👍

    • @RCModSquad
      @RCModSquad  3 роки тому +1

      @@gatti493 true. The main problem is the odd gear pitch and the non adjustable motor mount. The good part of the design is the bearing arrangement on the driveshaft. The motor mount has bearings for the driveshaft so the spur won’t get pushed away from the pinion. It keeps the gear mesh very constant.
      It has a plastic spur but I don’t know if anyone that’s stripped the spur unless they cut grooves in the motor mount to make it adjustable. WLtoys did an excellent job with the gear mesh.
      You can alway just use a lower turn motor for more speed. I don’t think the ESC would handle a 12t or less motor but it might with a fan installed. A 15t or 17t might work pretty well. Unless you have a lot of room 30 mph gets away from you pretty fast.

      Lol 30mph , you should see how fast 60mph gets away from you 😂😂
      No sorry your right and it all depends on where your using your vehicle, if you are using it in the street then absolutely 30mph is going to be hairy at times but then on a 200m by 200m car park 30mph is pretty slow.
      You look like your enjoying the hobby anyway , have you got many RCs ?
