- In this talk Mr.Desai talks about his efforts to bring forth free education to the kids in rural India, and also how the common man can contribute towards the same.
Mr Desai was a professor in one of the top B-schools in India but gave it up to help uplift the poor. He is a man committed to his dream to educate underprivileged children, living in the rural areas of Maharashtra and Rajasthan. In order to make money for this 52- year old professor goes around begging in Mumbai’s crowded local trains. He has done so for two years and has raised 50 lakh rupees. The money is used to run four English medium schools already, with a fifth school to open shortly. The people living in the areas where Mr Desai has set up the schools equate him to a God as he helped them achieve something they could never even think of. Yet Mr Desai says that his job has just begun and that there is a long road ahead.

I am a student of IIM Lucknow. I am proud to say that we have adopted a neighboring village and are working towards its development.
However, I have an idea which may be more feasible for spreading education in the Indian scenario. Currently there are a number of non profit institutions (like study hall foundation, khan academy,etc) which provide good quality education absolutely free of cost. With this underlying asset available, what we need is a room, a mobile projector (5K), and a smartphone (5K). A person who knows how to operate the projector is enough for dissemination of information. Offcourse at a pre primary level, human intervention is essential. But this digital model of providing education is scalable to every village (which has the provision of electricity) in a very economical way.
I would love to discuss further on this model if anyone is genuinely interested in taking up the charge of making a difference.

ur idea is good but we don't want only education, we need to provide infrastructure too because that resp. student should get educational atmosphere and that's the right of every student.

What's important is to improvised living standarD's. Education will automatically follow.
Necessity of today
Pfff all you are talking about is building expensive concrete infrastructure, but what about Quality, Content and Moral of education system? With the present education scenario, even if you will be able to create infrastructure on common man donations, so what, what would be the output of those schools: another generation of educated rural LABOUR.
I respect your concern about education, but if you really want to improve education system of India, then must focus on content and quality of education that should able to develop problem solver, thinker N leader mindsets not just workers.
And bytheway you should contact ICT, projector video conferencing technician rather than construction one, so that you can spread education economically.
Yes and then gainful employment after education
If I had the power I would simply create a public sector unit for every one crore population. Its a good investment instead of giving free handouts.
If you look at how bhel ntpc nalco etc operate...with townships schools hospitals and everything need to lead and live a life of dignity and security.
