Truly grateful for your channel! INFP here and it’s refreshing to see a community of INFPs sharing the same struggle, in real life it can get so lonely because you feel nobody understands you. I struggle with perfectionism, when something I create isn’t up to my standards I tend to be overly self critical and hard on myself, and it’s exhausting.
Yes, perfectionism is a beast and it really helps to face it head on, you know!! We as creators have to extract the good and leave the bad with perfectionism. 💞
Well... Hit me BIG time... I almost turned it off than you said "changing too many things at once" hit me in my soul and I knew this is it! Thank you and your voice is soothing
Thanks you for this, you have just summed up exactly where I have been stuck and more importantly why! This is also the first ever comment I have made on a UA-cam video in the 15 years I've been using it! Maybe the fact I am typing this is my first step out of the comfort zone? Thank you so much for your words, beautifully spoken with a warm smile.
I enjoyed this so much. I am late commenting as I am late doing just about everything. Just having the discussion about perfectionism, procrastination and paralysis raised my awareness and helped me. I noticed that some tasks that I had were attached to some kind of anxiety which I delayed and went to the next task. By the end of the day those same tasks were not completed. I am trying to go ahead and complete something when I first think about it and not shuffle it to the back. Some progress. I think that the communication with Dory Linda has been like a therapy session. I hate to think what I owe her for all of these sessions.
I relate 100%. Things have started to change for me this month, I set my goals, step by step and I'm going to launch my first art series next month. I'm really really afraid of failing, but if I don't do it now, it's not going to happen. The worst part is, if you take too long to start your project, you will eventually feel like you've failed when in reality you even didn't start. I know that from experience. Lol
I love this!! 🚀💞 Congratulations!! Yes 💯 if we aren't willing to act then it's never going to happen. And there's no better time than the now!! You're spot on with your observations. That's growth 👏🏾🙌🏾
@@MsDoryLinda It's been all over the place. Starting with David Allen's Getting things Done, to Stephen Covey 4 quadrants. They don't stick. I've tried Kanbans. Post its. My wall get's filled with post its of ambitions and actions to take. My wall looks like my brain. But then the fear or doubts step in and prevent me from starting or not finishing. From a comment you made, we don't learn or get motivated from mistakes but more from successes/small wins, to paraphrase. That has inspired a new process I'm creating for myself starting today. Taking inspiration from your comment combined with the Four quadrants. 1. Assign tasks/goals a priority. 1-4 2. Assess how long each will take. 10 mins, 30 mins, 1hr, 2hr, 3+hrs 3. Put this in a spread sheet to filter from most important and least time to least important and most time tackle from there Go from there to be best informed about what to take on and get momentum started. Item that take more than a couple hours or days, further need to breakdown Maybe this is common sense or already a thing figured out centuries ago. But just getting started is the hardest part, and than tiny tiny wins add up and leads to hyper focus. Typically I'm sure most would suggest get on thing that's most important and most time that takes longest first. "Eat the frog". No way. I just can't Need the small wins but also most important or valuable wins first. doesn't I think having a system and the right tools to help are important for INFP to keep some structure and location of notes/resources. Because we sure can overwhelm ourselves with goals and correlating information. At least I do. I'm using a tool called Notion. It's been great so far and recommended. Comes with a learning curve. Right now I'm in second career mode, for a year and a half. lol. As you've mentioned others have, we want to do everything, and sometimes try to do everything. What have a done about it? Lots and lots of exploration, looking in to the best places to volunteer and dip my toes in before committing to a specific path and formal education if needed. But it's hard when there's 5 things at the top of interest list. They all connect and values aligned. People, creativity, community, and how to not end up broke in lower paying roles that align with values and interests. Alot to be said. Thanks for your advice. It's really helped
Yes we need good systems to be able to make the most of our flow and free spirited nature. When you say the things you've tried don't stick, what does that look like? Do they stop working for you after a while or do they not work at all? Have you figured out why that's the case?
@@MsDoryLinda I think it comes back to this. Doubting the process. Thinking there's got to be a better way, rather than just going with it. I can;t even say if they stop working because I'm not sure I take them far enough to give a genuine try, like doing a process for 30 days. some might say for me, cause i've heard this or even felt it before, me not knowing what I want. The problem is I want too many things. I know what I want, I just don't know which one to put first and where to get started. Or I do know but I second guess it in the early phase. Or By the next day I feel I want to pursue that other thing I wanted to do, And than the paralysis sets in. OR, it's distraction, not focused on just one thing and getting it done. halfway through I start thinking, maybe I should be doing that other thing right now instead. I was diagnosed with ADHD in my mid 20's. I do now wonder, is this more to do with this personality type, which sometimes sounds like it. But it really could all come down to lack of discipline, and not having a good system in place, and pathway or map of getting there and sticking with it. a big part is lack of focus, structure, overwhelming myself with too many ambitions. Thanks for these questions
Bring multi passionate definition has its challenges. I think you're right in that, knowing where you're heading will help you know what to focus on or what would perhaps not be a good fit in getting you there. The rest will come down to being willing to act and see whether that decision takes you down the trajectory you want. If it doesn't, you can quickly exclude it, if it helps then you can continue adding another layer. The problem that often occurs for us Creative types is we remain in the thinking mode and not taking action and being willing to so imperfectly. That perfectionism is a beast.
I am totally watching this tonight! Just recently descovered your channel, and I am so grateful for your content. My personality is INFP-T, chaotic by nature but lately things have been pretty rough due to overthinking, procrastination and the amount of work I've decided to take on (just the usual INFP agenda...) Greetings from Brazil
@@MsDoryLinda Your content is amazing. It is really reassuring also, to be able to understand better and learn more about those behavior patterns, feelings and thoughts that we end up struggling (and sometimes, making it in worse in our minds) by ourselves out of fear of being judged. Thanks a lot!
Hi Dory. Stopping by to show soome love. Turns out this is what Jim Rohn aas talking about on the Self Devwlioment Audio (from my Daily Dozen List). 💕💕💕
Procrastinating in the name of Perfection until the idea dissipates. I heard Sunny mention your name as one of the people who benefited from her UA-cam for Bosses Program. I hooe to take it soon because my Channel is stagnant.
Yes I have definitely benefitted from the program. I knew very little about anything UA-cam and that was the first program I took. I hear you on perfectionism, it's a beast!! It destroys and holds back so many people's potential and that's why it's one of the things I address in my Unconventional Hub resource for those working on bringing their ideas to reality.
I feel my perfectionism and procrastination are due to greediness and ambition . There's always the "what if" in my mind What if I choose this path and give up the others? What if I choose this but find this is not what I want? The way to cope with it is to try out everything! It won't hurt after all. The earlier the better.
Absolutely 💯 Ambition plays a huge part. The ealier and faster we implement the better. We get to discover, discount or progress and not feel stuck in indecisiveness and unfulfillment.
