I was a 1960’s mechanic and it’s hilarious watching two very talented blokes trying to fathom the workings of the humble old Stromberg 97. Great show, one of my favourites.
yea pete it was painful to watch forest and bubba fumble through this basic carb rebuild lmao done hundreds of these over the years
I did one of those when at 17 for the XP, ran like a top.
im a 2019 till now mechanic and yeah have nooooo clue how to pull one apart they dont even go over it at tafe any more only the dead basics i bet watching you work with them would be a dream !
@@chrislepp9647 yea us old timers still know a thing or two lol
But a Holden carb was a zenith not a 97 if I am not mistaken
20:15 “Fuel make it happener”
A little Vice Grip Garage slipping in there.😂
My second favourite channel after you guys!!
I was just showing a mate your UA-cam channel and we both had a little chuckle watching you guys working out our old technology and how we are lost with the new technology. When rebuilding a carby it pays to face the surfaces before replacing the gaskets. I’ve always used a thick pane of glass and some wet and dry sandpaper. Otherwise you’ve done a great job boys. Broom Broom
The best oart about linkage, break a engine mount and throttle jams. Thats why we ran cable. Hot tip also is a early Toyota twin throttle carry bolts stright on , advantage secondaries and when u turn left hard say a long on ramp the float falls and blocks the fuel. All the ktg secret tricks
You guys would have benefited from an ultrasonic cleaner for this episode. They're perfect for carby bits
I was just gonna post the exact same thing but then I read yours . . .
@@Davidm1956 Me Too. I bought one specifically big enough to fit any carb I could think of in. Works a treat.
The old Stromy is as simple as it gets.
BROOOM BROOM. Well done guys, working out the linkages & rebuilding the Carby, meanwhile, I'm sitting on the edge of my seat trying to show you how it all works.🤣😂. I cut my teeth on the Red motor, from the EH up to the HZ (I think). The two screws that hold the base & main body together will probably need a tighten once you've taken it for a few runs along with the inlet/exhaust bolts.
Another great video that helps me so much with my HT V8 swap. I have 6cyl firewall pics if you need them. Mal
Vroom Vroom. Great episode guys.
Shake the float to see if it's got a leak!
I was waiting for you to check if the float had any holes in it... even a pinhole will affect it along the way.
Accelerator linkages from back in the day are truly ridiculous technology, sent you a pic on facebook though
Thanks for the memories. This was my teen years rebuilding carbs as fuel injection was only starting to make its way into modern cars
I like to hydro blast carbs but it's always a bit of a lag time to get the pieces back. Also a set of oxy tip cleaners is super handy for going through jets. 161 broom-broom in no time.
I had to giggle with the carby re-assembly. I've lost count on how many carbies I've rebuilt from learning from my old man. It was great to see you guys having a crack at this. I wish I had pics to help you guys out.
Great video as always!
Ol' strommies are usually just Plunger, jet holes and gasket replacement that carbie good though cause you still have the brace for the float bowl. That's not the concourse acc pedal but a pretty good upgrade considering. Doing a good job of it. I like these video's.
There is an eBay listing showing all the linkages you need, and an exploded view of how is all goes
Ahhh the humble Stromy…..lol
Broom Broom….😂
Love watching you guys, always leaning something, right or wrong hahaha broom broom 😁😁
I remember selling main jet removal tools. Made by Litchfield I think.
Quite enjoyable to watch the building of the carb, even more enjoyable when we see it in action!
Hey boys great video
Have you guys sorted out the parts yet we have some spare
Our HT ute video comes out today
Take its easy boys Byron 👍
Haha broom
Vroom vroom, carbataters! 👍 great show bois 👌🤠🤙
id love to see you guys with a ultra sonic cleaner i bet you guys would love it!
Hey ledgends that engine bay looks mint keep up awesome work!
Brooom Brooomm.can't wait to see old Bertha fire up
There should be an L shaped bracket with a grommet in it that the linkage rod fits in . Pissa of an episode boys good luck finding the bracket lol 😂
Vroom Vroom fellas off to the Tractor Pull.
The 161 square engine same size bore and stroke. Needs a 138 head and a 20/60 cam and that will rev to the moon. You want be going fast but it will rev quick😂
Brooooommm
love the work boys keep it coming 🤙
Emulsions and percolations sure do keep the riff raff away haha, cant wait to hear this "freshly rebuilt" 161 go vroom
Updated once i got to the end - i wish my shed dog had outgrown the shed like loki, mine is always getting into corners of the shed he shouldnt or wedging himself underneath cars 😅
Vroom Vroom! Carb's are mysterious.
Love the episode. Brum
Vroom vroom. Hang on 😂😂
You lads need an ultrasonic cleaner - brings aluminium stuff up like new and way better than a parts washer for the delicate stuff 🤖
G'day guys,
Good episode.
But you need to get an altrasonic cleaner 30lt. Brings stuff up smick. The Vevor brand is good value.
Ebay has the missing linkage you need.
So, thanks for sharing more of your the HT build. ✌️ Peace from Melbourne/Pakenham 3810.
BROOM
Brumm Brumm 😂 another great episode fellas
Love this channel 🔥
The first 1.30 of your vid all I could do was look at the missing diff and wonder what I missed lol
Where did you get the carb kit from? I got a grey motor I'm in the middle of building. Was gonna get someone to do the carb but you've convinced me 😂😂
Really liked the over the bench shots - would be nice if you could get in a bit closer in future (maybe check out the setup Casey Neistat has). Pumped to hear this thing make vroom vroom noises!
nathen ur the best love ur work
Your sponsor's should donate a Ultrasonic Cleaner for you guys 😊😊😊😊
Keen to have one of you boys in our 500hp tractor “LITTLE WILLEY”
Broom Broom😊
Lads.... love your content.... do your selves a favour and purchase a ultra sonic bath.... defo will make carby and other parts cleaner...
Love the top down shot of the carby build, but I feel like it’s upside down. It should feel like we are looking over your shoulder. Broom broom
Broom!
broom... broom, BROOM
Bruummm!
Underbonnet shots of them for sale on marketplace
Will send you the linkage photos on my Hg and will also see if i can find you the special drop box link full of the original gmh manuals and parts guides
Turn your screen upside- down, then you'll be happy
I have but one question boys, shouldn’t the engine be red not rebuild orange had a few red 6 cylinders in Holden’s and can only remember them being a bit more red and that color being the one used on Repco rebuilds but please correct if my memory is wrong great show too guys
Can we have an update on the XY? What’s Rodney up to with it???
He is still slowly piecing together the interior mate.
First step of disassembling a carby is to put the pig mat down.
Hey guys I’ve just rebuilt my Ht with the matching numbers 161.
If you would like some photos of anything let me know how I can send them to you.
Cheers.
Your next mission, should you choose to accept it, is to strip, clean, rebuild and tune a set of triple webbers 😂😂😂
VROOM... LOL
Broom broom
Bruum
If you build this carby and it works..You could build a Dorito motor…😂
Vroom Vroom
Broommm
I torqued down spark plugs once. Scared the living s$$$ out of me as I have never tightened them that much in my life.
The Classic Single Barrel Strongberg, great way to cut your teeth.

350 holley is even easier.
It's not Factory built, its "HACKTORY" built.

That oil cap looks wrong. Needs to be black. With that little sticker that says "Wash in kerosine and re-oil every 5,000 miles. More often in dusty conditions" (No one EVER did that but anyways .. . ). Get the sticker from Rare Spares for $9.95 = GST. Go on. Be a man.
There is a full set up for sale on Gumtree in WA with pictures of it all laid out!
