As an iPhone user i gotta say this phone is so impressive. I played with this in the store today and I had no complaints about this phone. The screen is large but it still felt pretty comfortable in my hands and I have small hands. Yes the standard galaxy s20 felt the best in my hands but this wasn’t bad at all. I would definitely leave iOS for this phone. 120hz makes a huge user experience difference. It’s hard to explain but the way high refresh rate phones feel is amazing
I wish they would've made the phone a bit thicker to make it almost flush or flush with the camera bump. If the phone was thicker they could've fit a way bigger battery I'm pretty sure.
I think Samsung was a bit afraid of making the N20U battery bigger or the phone any thicker, because so many people complained about how bulky and heavy the S20 Ultra was and most tech reviewers even recommended the S20+ over the S20 Ultra, so Samsung decided to play it safe and reduce the weight andthickness at the cost of battery capacity and having a slightly more pronounced camera bump

In Android especially One UI, I always use the windowed mini app mode all the time via edge panel, typically open calculator or quick Google search or currency conversion. I seriously cannot imagine switching to phone without this feature. I love it :)
I use my phone for presentations (over chromecast) and air gestures on the older note was a lifesaver. Didn't ever need a slide changer /pointer thing.
Very good review. No real issues with the phone. Can't wait to get my tomorrow (Wed). Battery life was the only thing I was worried about, but it appears that if one is getting 5 1/2 hours at 120hz at max brightness and very heavy use...thats pretty damn good since that is not the normal use case...with a normal use case of 6 1/2 hours on screen time which pretty much means with typical use one will get through the whole day. I wish someone would show the difference in battery at 60hz just for knowledge, but I guess I'll find out soon enough. Coming from a S9+ to this with a pen, well, I couldn't be happier along with the Buds+ I already have and the Buds Live coming too :-).
I've just upgrading from Note 5 (flat) to S10 (curved) and the edge screen is not that bad. Actually I kinda dig it because swiping from the side feels great and I love how it looks like infinite pool of glass on top of the phone, truly gorgeous. Plus with case, it's not even a problem at least for me :)

I love note series of Samsung, I'm also using Note20 ultra & I'm happy with it but the battery life is little bit disappointed me, but it's ok with the whole config of this device. To each their own I guess. I felt like giving my real perspective on them. They're both good, just not the best I've experienced. I didn't find it fair to praise them as if they were the best out there.
I watched over two dozen tech reviews on the Note 20 Ultra as well in both English and Korean and the two features that you say you are not too fond of are described as being an improvement over the previous models. Just like the other comments note, the sound quality and the haptic feedback are constantly reviewer after reviewer, praised. So, your review, while it does justice, still seems like a bit of an anomaly. Can you tell me why were being such a harsh critic? I am a huge note fan, but an iPhone user who thinks that Samsung is not in any sense lacking in sound quality nor haptic feedback. After all, they are powered by AKG and AKG is Harmon and JBL, owned by Samsung.
Bry Weasley I think the sound quality is what Samsung wants it to be. They have been tweaked with consumer safety in mind taking into account that many elderly folks love using the Note series. It doesn’t get overly loud and it is sufficiently clear and crisp for media consumption as well. On the roads while driving or speeding excessively, Note is designed to temper its output to decibel levels that won’t damage your hearing as well as be cognizant of any oncoming hazards or emergency vehicles nearby. Now, that’s a premium quality phone feature! Remember, Samsung knows audio-visual! They own AKG and JBL under the Harmon brand, an industry leader loved by musicians and Hollywood sound technicians.

Go get the kustom widget and pro version. The time and weather widgets are there. Pretty simple to implement. Unsure though how to get the rain effect on the wallpaper.
I've been a Google fan and have been buying their phones for the past decade. I did try a Galaxy a few years ago, but sold it at a huge loss after only a couple of months. I couldn't stand the Samsung "bloatware" and "bugginess" it brings. Give me pure Android all day, every day, over any manufacturers UI. I recently purchased the new Motorola Edge Plus as the stats, battery size/life, screen, and "almost" pure Android had me loving it on paper. But the tall, skinny, screen size and curved display drove me crazy. Wayyyy too many accidental inputs and the tall, skinny, screen meant it was good one handed, but left a lot to be desired when you turned it sideways to landscape mode. If you had the keyboard open, you have very little screen left in which to view what your typing, and so back it went. I had planned on buying the new Pixel 5 but with Google's decision to no longer compete against Apple or Samsung on high end specs, but to go after budget and price conscious buyers, that doesn't work for me. So that left me choosing between this Note 20 Ultra or the Samsung Fold 2. Couldn't make up my mind for days, but I ultimately chose to wait one more year/revision before plopping down 2K for a Fold. So I'm praying I can adjust to the bloatware and love this 20 Ultra. I could've saved money and bought it thru Verizon, but I choose to spend more to buy an unlocked version directly from Samsung and avoid the additional Verizon bloatware. I'm hoping I can love this new phone.
I feel it is when you take into consideration what you put the phone through. As I clearly stated, regular everyday use I was getting 6.5hrs. 5.5 with extremely heavy use is fine. With light to moderate use I'm sure you could pull 7hrs. It's all in how you use it. Not that difficult of a concept.
Nice video! As somone than gave the S20U a shot, but stayed in their N10+, I like the N20U. Thoughts: With just 10 charge cycles, my battery only seems to be at ~94% of design capacity at ~4105 mAh. In other words almost ~10% less than the advertised 4500 mAh. Samsung need to do better quaintly control on batteries (Note 7 should have taught them this). Perhaps they knew these batteries are weak, and that's why they don't support 45w charging. 🤷♂️ Speaking of the battery... The Note, particularly the "Ultra" should have Samsung's largest battery of the year, IMO. Note users, traditionally, are not afraid to "color outside the lines" of conformity. They will generally sacrifice some aesthetics for functionality. Make the phone thicker, reduce the appearance of the camera budge, and bring back the headphone jack. That or, 😱, bring back swappable batteries. The speaker NEEDS the cutout for the earpiece side. Missing it seems to mean the sound is very badly unbalanced. Maybe they can manage this another way, but the balance is horrendous (at least on my particular N20U). They need to quit making the most expensive version only available in the most boring color, black. The 512 GB model should be available in an exclusive color, every color, or at least the signature color at launch. First no headphone jack, now no headphones in some markets. That's crappy. They should make a "Eco" model. Simple packaging, no headphones, no charger, etc. This model, other than packaging, should just be what they want from you when you do a trade in, so phone and S pen in this case. They could charge $25 less, and it'd be popular, but still give those switching from Apple or other brands an option without requiring Bluetooth buds.
Wait for next years guys, exynos isn't worth it. LET AMD KILL IT & 120hz+1440p option unlocked, then it'll be a perfect phkne. Currently not worth whooping $1300
I love my note 20 Ultra but I will miss my 10plus. baterry life has treated me great and I'm on my phone all day since I've been quarantined. So much to this phone that I'm still discovering. Like he said it's not perfect but what phone is or will be. Depending on your preference and/or lifestyle might determine if this is a phone for you. $1300 is still an ouch to the wallet but yolo. I love the curve screen but also wouldn't be mad at the flat screen. SS should start making a curve and flat version of the phone just for personal style. Love the review and thanks!!
I'm pretty sure that they could have made the entire phone as thick as the camera bump is and filled that space with battery, and no one would have said a negative thing about it, since it would have given us a longer battery life. Or, knowing Samsung, they'll come out with Note 20 Ultra Extended a few months from now and piss us early buyers off.
Currently watching for my Note 20 Ultra Mystic black. My last daily driver was a pixel 4 XL which I love, especially the camera quality. But the battery wasn't what I wanted it to be. I remember seeing the ad for this Ultra a few months ago and thinking, looks cool but it's probably just quote-unquote another note. and even when I first got it I started having buyers remorse compared to my pixel and I kept going back and forth, because the buttery smoothness of a pixel UI can't be beaten. But the more I'm using this phone the more I'm realizing it is a total Beast. My last note was a note 9 and this is Light years better especially the camera module and everything that comes with it has made huge improvements. This thing just feels Ultra premium, and I was even worried about the battery life, but I watched a UA-cam video that gave me some things to change and honestly the day-to-day interaction and the quality in the feel has not really changed that much but the battery life has increased significantly. I should also mention that I did a little test run with the 11 Pro max, and that is also a pretty sick phone, but once you get used to all the optimization and customization that one gets used to using android, this note 20 Ultra takes that to the nth degree.
I don't understand the complaints about accidental touches. You're stupid if you don't put a case on a $1300 phone. A case eliminates any accidental touches. The curves are far more minimal than on the Note 9 or even the 10. A flat screen would solve some S-pen issues, but the slight curve does beautify the phone & set it apart, especially when others are moving away from it.
Samsung doesn't get the credit they deserve. In comparison to almost every other smartphone company Samsung has been pushing the envelope the most for a while now. Not just with their flagship lineups but their midrange and budget phones as well. The phones and the specs speak for themselves. I'm a Galaxy user, but I look things from a unbiased standpoint and Samsung is # 1 in the smartphone industry when it comes to innovation and business.
got a brand new sony tv a couple months back and it doesnt support the wireless dex. Its pretty stupid because it supports screen mirroring so why not dex??? Im gonna write a complaint about that...
You don't really pay retail for the phone. Normally Samsung will throw in freebies at pre-order. For Asiapacfic, you will get a free galaxy buds live or LED cover with UV wireless sanitizer and LED view cover.
to be honest this phone i can describe it as beautiful instead of pricey or camera bump and i haven't use SAmsung flagship since the galaxy S3 . really want to switch to the next generation Z flip though since they be giving 3 year OS update just like google or oneplus which is great.
Awesome phone but i just couldn't bring myself to spend that much just for a phone. Sold my note 10 plus and got more for what samsung was giving for trading it. Bought the lg v60 with the dual screen got lucky and got it for just $620 brand new.
@@dr.keating6864 yes it is, it is well known how LG struggles to keep it's phone sales up, their software is unpolished, their dual-screen project has no backing, their cameras were deemed sub-par plus a poor battery performance despite having a big cell. For me, that's a downgrade from a Note 10+ which was already on the top of the android flagahips of late 2019. I've owned a V series LG phone before and I will never fall in the same error.
Is a great phone; cameras; video stabilization and zoom and using the wireless Bluetooth mikes for videos great update! Camera Zoom improve! Gorilla glass victus, Spen feels very accurate at 9ms latency! The 120 Hertz is the only thing can use so much, consume to much battery! This phone needs 45w charger but this phone not support this charge! I am using the phone for 1 hour and 13 minutes is 86% yesterday I use at 60 Hertz in medium power saving gives more than 15 hours of work!
How bad are the "accidental inputs" on this Note 20 Ultra with the curved screen ??? I returned the Motorola Edge Plus primarily because of this issue. While it might look "cool" it sucks in use. If I suffer similar issues with this Note 20 Ultra, back it goes. Than I'll be buying the Fold 2.

I was at Best Buy today checking out the z fold 2 and note 20 ultra..... thanks to some comments from the sales lady i decided to keep my note 10 plus. I didn’t t like the wrinkle in the fold of the screen along the hinge area and she said the note 20 with the 5g modem and the processor speed it eats up the battery. Ill wait to see whats in the future for samsung. If verizon offered sony phones i might go back to sony with all the new cool things it does with taking photos.
I'm kinda getting tired about people complaining about the curved edge. It literally isn't a big deal at all once you put a case on it. I never have accidental touches on mine. Plus the curved edge looks way nicer than the flat display.
No one complains that they can't push their newest iPhone to 4k 120Hz... but all Android phones seem to get criticized for this. Meanwhile, the iPhone is able to get away with low res, low refresh screens and win battery tests. Smh

Samsung always Lacks in sound. I came to a Note 9 from an LG V60 & the speakers aren't nearly as loud.

You can turn up vibration intensity. That makes it noticeably stronger.

Samsung need to do better quaintly control on batteries (Note 7 should have taught them this). Perhaps they knew these batteries are weak, and that's why they don't support 45w charging. 🤷♂️
Speaking of the battery... The Note, particularly the "Ultra" should have Samsung's largest battery of the year, IMO. Note users, traditionally, are not afraid to "color outside the lines" of conformity. They will generally sacrifice some aesthetics for functionality. Make the phone thicker, reduce the appearance of the camera budge, and bring back the headphone jack. That or, 😱, bring back swappable batteries.
The speaker NEEDS the cutout for the earpiece side. Missing it seems to mean the sound is very badly unbalanced. Maybe they can manage this another way, but the balance is horrendous (at least on my particular N20U).
They need to quit making the most expensive version only available in the most boring color, black. The 512 GB model should be available in an exclusive color, every color, or at least the signature color at launch.
First no headphone jack, now no headphones in some markets. That's crappy. They should make a "Eco" model. Simple packaging, no headphones, no charger, etc. This model, other than packaging, should just be what they want from you when you do a trade in, so phone and S pen in this case. They could charge $25 less, and it'd be popular, but still give those switching from Apple or other brands an option without requiring Bluetooth buds.

I love my note 20 Ultra but I will miss my 10plus. baterry life has treated me great and I'm on my phone all day since I've been quarantined. So much to this phone that I'm still discovering. Like he said it's not perfect but what phone is or will be. Depending on your preference and/or lifestyle might determine if this is a phone for you. $1300 is still an ouch to the wallet but yolo. I love the curve screen but also wouldn't be mad at the flat screen. SS should start making a curve and flat version of the phone just for personal style. Love the review and thanks!!

I'm pretty sure that they could have made the entire phone as thick as the camera bump is and filled that space with battery, and no one would have said a negative thing about it, since it would have given us a longer battery life. Or, knowing Samsung, they'll come out with Note 20 Ultra Extended a few months from now and piss us early buyers off.

Battery could be bigger but has been great so far. I use mine alot and had around 50 after work each day so far.
Currently watching for my Note 20 Ultra Mystic black. My last daily driver was a pixel 4 XL which I love, especially the camera quality. But the battery wasn't what I wanted it to be. I remember seeing the ad for this Ultra a few months ago and thinking, looks cool but it's probably just quote-unquote another note.
and even when I first got it I started having buyers remorse compared to my pixel and I kept going back and forth, because the buttery smoothness of a pixel UI can't be beaten. But the more I'm using this phone the more I'm realizing it is a total Beast. My last note was a note 9 and this is Light years better especially the camera module and everything that comes with it has made huge improvements.
This thing just feels Ultra premium, and I was even worried about the battery life, but I watched a UA-cam video that gave me some things to change and honestly the day-to-day interaction and the quality in the feel has not really changed that much but the battery life has increased significantly.
I should also mention that I did a little test run with the 11 Pro max, and that is also a pretty sick phone, but once you get used to all the optimization and customization that one gets used to using android, this note 20 Ultra takes that to the nth degree.
I don't understand the complaints about accidental touches. You're stupid if you don't put a case on a $1300 phone. A case eliminates any accidental touches. The curves are far more minimal than on the Note 9 or even the 10. A flat screen would solve some S-pen issues, but the slight curve does beautify the phone & set it apart, especially when others are moving away from it.
Samsung doesn't get the credit they deserve. In comparison to almost every other smartphone company Samsung has been pushing the envelope the most for a while now. Not just with their flagship lineups but their midrange and budget phones as well. The phones and the specs speak for themselves. I'm a Galaxy user, but I look things from a unbiased standpoint and Samsung is # 1 in the smartphone industry when it comes to innovation and business.

to be honest this phone i can describe it as beautiful instead of pricey or camera bump and i haven't use SAmsung flagship since the galaxy S3 . really want to switch to the next generation Z flip though since they be giving 3 year OS update just like google or oneplus which is great.
Awesome phone but i just couldn't bring myself to spend that much just for a phone. Sold my note 10 plus and got more for what samsung was giving for trading it. Bought the lg v60 with the dual screen got lucky and got it for just $620 brand new.
I was able to preorder it from Best Buy it was $1249. They gave me $650 for my Note 10+ so im only paying $599 and I get a $150 credit from Samsung.

@@dr.keating6864 yes it is, it is well known how LG struggles to keep it's phone sales up, their software is unpolished, their dual-screen project has no backing, their cameras were deemed sub-par plus a poor battery performance despite having a big cell. For me, that's a downgrade from a Note 10+ which was already on the top of the android flagahips of late 2019. I've owned a V series LG phone before and I will never fall in the same error.

Is a great phone; cameras; video stabilization and zoom and using the wireless Bluetooth mikes for videos great update! Camera Zoom improve! Gorilla glass victus, Spen feels very accurate at 9ms latency! The 120 Hertz is the only thing can use so much, consume to much battery! This phone needs 45w charger but this phone not support this charge! I am using the phone for 1 hour and 13 minutes is 86% yesterday I use at 60 Hertz in medium power saving gives more than 15 hours of work!
How bad are the "accidental inputs" on this Note 20 Ultra with the curved screen ??? I returned the Motorola Edge Plus primarily because of this issue. While it might look "cool" it sucks in use. If I suffer similar issues with this Note 20 Ultra, back it goes. Than I'll be buying the Fold 2.

I was at Best Buy today checking out the z fold 2 and note 20 ultra..... thanks to some comments from the sales lady i decided to keep my note 10 plus. I didn’t t like the wrinkle in the fold of the screen along the hinge area and she said the note 20 with the 5g modem and the processor speed it eats up the battery. Ill wait to see whats in the future for samsung. If verizon offered sony phones i might go back to sony with all the new cool things it does with taking photos.
I'm kinda getting tired about people complaining about the curved edge. It literally isn't a big deal at all once you put a case on it. I never have accidental touches on mine. Plus the curved edge looks way nicer than the flat display.
