I don't like talking bad or at least I'm trying not to, but I can't say that I view the city very positively and I've been to a lot of cities with very few of them being ones that I couldn't find something positive about.
Memphis needs a lot of work.

It won’t get work until people actively work to change it. That won’t happen because a lot of the citizens here are entitled and want the change to happen to them. They won’t change themselves, so Memphis will never change.

Very disappointed by New Orleans. I was checked out for a robbery on a patio over looking the Mississippi while watching a River Boat. I left quickly. My husband and I who are Northerners also experienced some prejudice against Northerners. The food was also bad and I got sick. The city is ugly, dirty, and crime ridden. Memphis does not look much better unless you are a young musician or music fan who is really into blues and Southern Soul that I also love; but not enough to visit Memphis. LOL.

I've lived in Memphis all my life and I'm 58. Memphis use to get awards for the prettiest places. Now it a garbage dump trash all over the city people don't bother to cut the grass anymore. Crime rate skyrocket carjackings robberies people just don't care anymore in this city they de funded the police department so now there's not even enough police to handle the city. Gang members doing donuts in the street drive like they own the streets doing 50 and 60 mph down 35 and 40 mph street. And you hear gun shots every night all over the place. I use to love this city. But now I just want to get out of the hell hole.

I was extremely curious about what reasons could be behind a video with such a title. I haven't watched it yet because your comment pinned here caught my eye. I still feel so incredibly fortunate to have visited Memphis, with my best friend, who was the only person who didn't say to me with odd curiosity, "Why would you want to go there?"
The Music! The phenomenal history there. I wanted to see and experience
      Beale St.
      Sun Studio.
      The museums.
I would go back there in a heartbeat and still hope to, for that very same reason. It was amazing and wonderful. I remember thinking that, this can't be right, as we were following directions to The Staxx Museum. Away from downtown into a residential neighborhood.
Visiting Memphis meant that I would also come experience some bone chilling moments when confronted with ALL of Memphis' history. The civil rights and racist history. The unbelievable reality of how much has NOT changed in Memphis. Attitudes.
Even so, I met so many wonderful, friendly, very helpful citizens of Memphis inspite of that stark reality. Memphis is not a poor city by any means. What you describe vividly reflects the unchanged reality of local government. The priorities of the people in charge are exactly the same as those days of the sanitary workers strike in 1968. The people that Martin Luther King Jr. chose to go there to support.
      Pitiful to say the least.
May you still know days of happiness to come. God Bless you, sir.

10- we have vegan jackfruit BBQ. We have vegan restaurants and a vegan festival
9- that's why no one who lives here goes on beale or Graceland
8- we are literally fighting right now to keep our largest park from being paved over for the zoo
7- I got a better education here than when my parents moved just south of the state line during high school. Seriously I was "relearning" shit in a MS high school that I learned in a Memphis city middle school
6- I hope that pyramid bit was a joke. Memphis drivers a different breed but rush-hour isn't that bad nor does it last that long
5- there are plenty of service jobs here and rent depends on your location (tho it is quickly rising everywhere) you can find rent for under 1,000 if you look outside trendy neighborhoods
4- our weather is a lil bipolar but it's not dangerous
3- fuck 615 it's way over priced and has no culture outside of nouveau riche country singers
2- "shelters bring down home value" 😱 oh lord won't someone think of the poor NIMBYs
1- lmao the crime in South Memphis don't have shit to do with the little ass wall around Graceland. Elvis put that in a month after he moved in back when it was the "white" part of town. Also what the fuck would Elvis do to help lower crime here??

I once worked at (not for) Federal Express. When I walked in at 7;00 AM, I worked at the Marigot Café and we had to have breakfast ready for the day shift, I walked past the security office, like I had done everyday. I was suddenly garbed from behind, lifted of the ground and slimmed into the wall. I don't mean pushed, I was lifteda foot off the ground and had my head shammed agent the concrete block wall, When my head cleared a huge ma was standing ofer me with a 357 Colt Python agents my forehead, and was putting me in handcuffs.
The building security manager who I new on sight came up. He had a Colt Automatic in a shoulder holster, which he didn't take out. He also didn't say anything. The huge man, who I found out later was an ex NFL lineman screamed "what are you doing here"? I tried to explain that I was going to work. I had on a FedEx ID badge. Two uniformed guards appeared and pointed 12ga pump shotguns at my head. They then ripped my D of and hustled me into what would have been mistaken for a Memphis Police squad car and drove me of the "campus". When I got my wind, one of them said be quiet, we are just trying to get you out of there. Don't you know who that is?, I didn't. He was the vice president of security for the whole company, and a former NFL star.
When I explained what happened one of them said "we know". so I asked why no one said anything, he just said "he's crazy", we just wanted to get you out. I decided to never work for anyone again, and get by on disability.
As they like to say there' are only two kinds of people in Memphis, those who work for Federal Express, and those who want to.

There has been only a few that have actually touched down and stayed long enough to do any type of damage and that’s a few at MOST. We have vegan BBQ and highways to help commute. We have so many schools because we rather have Less busses for emission and savings. Kids are near their school in their neighborhood instead bussed out the district. It wouldn't make since. We only have bad weather during May amd October. Frozen February and sunny the rest of the year. We have a green line for working out and multiple workout meet up spots, trails, parks and free health classes. Poverty is everywhere but we are also lower on taxes amd revenue than most cities. Gang activity is not bad here. Our crimes are high due to stolen cars and part. We are not this bad

While Memphis is no where near a perfect city, it is home to some truly genuinely nice people and some of the best cooking I have ever had the pleasure of experiencing. Memphis for sure needs some improvement here and there, but politics and social issues aside, the city is doing the best it can with what it has. And no... I highly doubt Elvis could do anything about the crime and homeless issues in the city. What an absolute asinine thing to say. 🤣
