I got a copy of the song about the same time I found out that Jaime's father had passed away. The timing was such that my first listen was with knowledge of that fact. So from the very beginning, my association with the song was that of the unavoidable and often-difficult changes that riddle our lives. I've been active in Seattle's music scene for a while now, and have seen how effects of this city's growth shake out for those who are struggling already. These lovely people, their places, their safe havens and holy places -- all struggling desperately to keep art and culture alive -- they all do it for us, for our tapping feet. I guess what I'm trying to say is that it's fucking sad as hell to lose them to shitty things like overdevelopment and greed. It's also fucking inspiring to see when they laugh in the face of it all and forge on ahead anyway.
So all of that considered, I wanted the video to confront loss, but not succumb to it. Facades of storied places that have gone away, been forced to move or have come dangerously close to either of those fates serve as the backdrop to Jaime's beautiful song. She stands up in front of them. Torrents of weather and other elements litter the scenes. They're simply representative of change. Some change is like the seasons, some from out of the ashes. And some change is unbelievably painful. I can't imagine the strength it took for Jaime to come and make this video with that immense loss right on her heels, but I'm honored that she did. It's why this video had to go the way of "sing-to-camera". Everything is right there in her eyes: courage, sadness, faltering confidence, glimpses of hope and happiness - all that beautiful mess. Change and loss comes at us, usually unstoppably. All we can do is give it back the best of us and keep moving.

Just heard a song of yours on satellite radio. When I got home I just had to look up your name, convinced the sound (it was the song 'Wasco'') was from decades ago, and that I had just never heard of you. To say I'm surprised to have heard what I consider classic country being sung now is an understatement. I think you're about to break in to the mainstream soon. Just keep at it, Jaime - damned good sound.
