To be honest bands like these wouldnt get this kind of recognition if it wasnt for free downloads. Thats what music is about, sharing it with as many people as possible so the bands can make it this far. Dont try and tell me you have never torrented an album..

The bands need the money, for their food, clothes, gas money. Without gas money, they couldn't play any shows. They need money for a lot of the same reasons you do. Playing music is their job, while the money isn't as important as just having fun and enjoying making music, it is still quite necessary. You have no idea how important it is to bands to have all of their merchandise and albums to be purchased and not pirated.
Or any at all! I'll bet they all have real 40hour a week jobs and play whenever they aren't working. You should really support bands you like by, buying their merchandise! That's one of the revenue generators which record labels cannot keep their fingers in. I'll bet they have some cool T-shirts or stickers. :)
Artists in this genre don't make that much at all. Too many illegal downloads and not a large enough fanbase. Unless you're INSANELY popular, like The Devil Wears Prada or other bands that were able to pioneer a sound before the whole "generic" theme came into play, not many bands can afford to keep going :/ it sucks.

artists make more off merch. although with 360" deals I don't even know how much of a cut they get from that any more
I cant decide if this or purge is my favorite song :/ purge is heavy as fuck but walls just has that uplifting beautiful solo at the end.
