After uncovering an archival image of an enslaved woman who was forced to wear a contraption of iron and bells to hinder her escape, Alison wanted to reach out to her as “justice-seeking” collaborator and artist. The result is Black Bell, a collection that reclaims American history and challenges us to consider what is given a voice and what is silenced.
