There's some evidence that Kano got the idea for the Judo gi after observing and even taking part in Cornish wrestling. Prior to his European tour, his Judo was done like the old style Jujutsu before it, either bare chested like Sumo, or else in thin kimono that wouldn't have stood up to being gripped and jerked. And considering there were intercultural matches between Cornwall and Ireland, he likely at least saw Collar and Elbow matches as well, and it's likely that the techniques done in Cornish style while holding the collar and elbow grip were most likely the same.
Really intresting stuff Sir. Really enjoying your channel both and this new sport I have recently discovered. I also enjoy learning the history or Ireland from your channel.
@@ramblingkern Starting at 2:40 in the Ed James rule #1 states there is a reference to uniform with rubber sandals. I was curious what type of sandal it was referring to. it seems like I got a rough idea what the other uniform pieces are.
I consider it to be the basis for the effectiveness of a dispute. I am an admirer of art and I want to see it reborn to the world. Hugs from Brazil.

It would be cool to see a match at the hollow in the phoenix park! That remind me of Dan Donnelly's famous boxing match in the hollow in the Curragh
We do plan on hosting some matches and hopefully a tournament there in summer if we can figure out the logistics
Interesting
I hope so.
@@ramblingkern rest assured! 👍 👍
@@caracortage3270 appreciate it

@@williamcryts5337 if you look at the Nat Hutchins photo the one I used in the thumbnail you will see them in the full length.
Was hoping to hear proper pronunciation of broilaidheacht in this
I`d rather of learnt this than judo
If you wish to start a club or training group pop me an email or DM and I would be happy to help.
