I haven't been to Henry Doorly but one thing I have noticed in nearly every zoo tour I've seen of the place is how small some of the exhibits are. They seem to tuck in tiny aviaries and enclosures everywhere. Some of the exhibits seem more focused on displaying the animals for effect, more so than the animals wefare. I didn't like that tapir exhibit one bit! That cave cage for a clouded leopard was terrible, I'm glad there's only an owl in there now. I've seen some other examples in the desert dome too.
I think this exhibit will be on my list. I always liked these "houses". The only thing, it seemed to me that tapirs and hippos do not have enough land. Perhaps it will stand somewhere in the 14th place.
When I was 9 I waited several hours to see the Lied Jungle on opening day. It totally blew my mind. Since the Jungle was built the zoo has constructed several mega projects and completely transformed itself. There is very little from that era still remaining. Even though it is pushing 30, The Lied Jungle is still an amazing experience and my favorite zoo exhibit.
Thank you so much for still uploading during these times. Here in the UK we’re still locked down but I’m back to school next week, zoos don’t reopen until after Easter and your videos really do help me feel as though I’m seeing the animals for myself, and I don’t know how you do it but it’s wonderful. Thank you.
if you ever have the chance you have to come here! I grew up across the street and worked there for years! thus is so much more than a zoo! it's a paradise and they do so much in terms of education and rehabilitation! I hope things are going well for you 🙏
As an Omaha resident, I am inordinately proud of our zoo, at it is easily my second favorite place in the world after my own home. On a more comedic note, I think I vaguely remember getting pooped on by a bat on the lower level when I was much, much younger. On a final note, really looking forward to seeing more of it now that everything is opening back up.
I've been to the Lied Jungle twice and both times I loved it! Sure, it's not perfect but it's still a phenomenal exhibit and probably my favorite part of the Henry Doorly Zoo.
I've never been to the US but I have been to the world's largest indoor rainforest. The "Gondwanaland" in Leipzig, Germany. It was amazing and is probably my favourite exhibit that I've been to
OMG yes! I haven't been to any USA zoos but my god, the German and Dutch zoos rock! The tropic exhibit at Emmen Wildlands has Asian elephants in it, I think it is four times the size of the lied jungle. I really love this channel though, and hopefully when the pandemic is under control, we can see some tours of the European zoos. I'd gladly donate to a Go fund me to send him off to document Leipzig, Zurich, Basle, Frankfurt etc. I reckon he'd do the best job! Plus he'd get to see animals like pangolin, pygmy anteater, yapok, coconut crabs, birds of paradise, giant armadillo, otter shrew, aye-aye, brown hyena and other amazing creatures that are rare or absent from the US zoos.
@@oliverbrunninge Yes there are still many zoos in the USA that he hasn't covered, so they will of course have priority. But if this channel really takes off and starts making big dollars....who knows what could happen?
6:32 In case you haven't already been told, this used to be where they had a Baird's Tapir. I hadn't visited the Lied Jungle recently enough to know that they had to switch it out for the time being, interesting news to me.
I’m seeing a whole lot more animals that I don’t remember from the earlier 2000s around 2004 2006 I may have been really young, but I remember quite a bit
I have a very fond memory of this attraction. Including a ring tailed lemur that nearly jumped onto my shoulder when i was a little kid. My girl scout troop was part of the first group in the jungle, way back when. 😊
Great video. Absolutely nailed it with the tapir part... they've needed more land to move about on for years. Glad to see the upper part of their enclosure is available to them now.
This place is amazing, but Singapore Zoo still has my heart. Coming in the morning and hearing the Siamangs holler and move around in the large trees of their cage less exhibit, seeing the orangutans swing above you, and large flying foxes soaring above your head, it’s truly amazing.
I remember when this first got built, you had to get a pass to get in set for a certain time frame. There is such a difference between then and now with all the tree’s plants, and animals being added and growing. it is a bit humid in there but I never seem to mind even on a hot day.
I visited the lied jungle one year ago and it was amazing it actually felt like I was in a rainforest it was a nice way to spend my spring break before the pandemic
I think this was one of my favorite I was a kid. I think I was around four or five when we moved from Nebraska, but the area with the butterflies was also my favorite. I did not like the place with the bridge above the water with a whole bunch of different animals and the sounds I believe it was dark.
Kowabunga! Been there 3 times back then! Wish they add binturongs in it! And did you know the Lied Jungle once have Visayan Warty Pigs to be precise? But when are you going to upload Part 2? Also, you & your girlfriend should try visiting the Woodland Park Zoo soon! Jumping Jaxartosaurus!🐒
Watching that does bring me back some memories when I end up going through the lead jungle at the Henry doorly zoo when I was a child and also the most recent times when I went to the Henry doorly zoo that the Lied jungle was closed
Just saying but I am so looking forward to this coming Sunday and the reason is because I am going to be going to Omaha and me and my grandpa are planning to go to the zoo
I was there this summer and I think they said that the bottom is closed due to covid beacuse if someone has covid in the building they are Afraid that one of the fruit bats can get it and spread it around to other people and other animals so it most likely won’t open back up until covid goes away.
*The Lied Jungle is or was considered one of the world's greatest exhibits, where does it rank on your favorites list?*
It’s definitely the top one
In your opinion, Is it better than tropic world at the brookfield zoo?
Yep I would consider it on the top list

Along with the desert dome, scott aquarium and nocturnal kingdom the lied jungle is always my favorite at henry doorly

also the bottom story I'd the best part!
Has always been my favorite exhibit since I was a kid. Every single time we enter the building I forget I’m even in a zoo let alone the Midwest

Is the new orangutan exhibit open yet? I interned for the zoo last summer and am looking to again this summer

I can't wait to see this someday!!
Living here and having a yearly pass is literally the best thing ever!!!!!

Can’t wait to see part 2! This exhibit is absolutely amazing, hoping to go there one day
I think this exhibit was the first time I ever saw a pygmy hippo in person

I will record the lower level as soon as possible when they reopen it.
Wow this building is amazing. It reminds my of the St Louis botanical gardens but with a lot more animals.
Hi, would you be interested in going to Cretaceous Park (made by SciiFii) if it existed? Just curious.
Yay! My zoo again!
This area is breathtaking I really hope to visit there soon.
Absolutely love it.

Hi zach when will part 2 come up oh and going to the henry doorly zoo will by on my bucket list
Since the second floor finally opened after 3 years, I would like to say I'll make my return early next year.
I’m going here in three weeks and I’m so excited this account is keeping me said before we go though.
Just saying but I am so looking forward to this coming Sunday and the reason is because I am going to be going to Omaha and me and my grandpa are planning to go to the zoo
I know it’s not really a zoo, but you could visit the ox ranch in Texas. I have heard some great stories about that place.
Your getting closer to 10k!
When he says biggest ___ in America I'm just like "yeah because we're just superior"
Im still waiting for part 2
Closed
You missed a terrarium with hinged tailed tortoises by the elephant shrew
I beat my past self up for skipping Terrariums back then
I love going there 😀
Can you find Zoo Tours: The Lied Jungle | Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo (PART TWO) and put the whole video up here on your UA-cam channel, please?
The second floor is still closed to this day. It will be a very, very long time before such a video exists, unfortunately.
Please make more!
I would love to see a ZooTours Discord Channel!
the last time I was there, I said "there's a croc in the water!" my family was confused and surprised, they looked and saw a shoe in the water 😂
I LOVE THIS! ❤ Can you do the Butterfly place? (I forgot what it's called)
Bernice grewock butterfly and insect Pavillion

Let me guess. Something to do with the pandemic?
That was the original thought but I hear they're doing renovations. They're doing a bunch on the top floor too.
What aniamals are in thre
where....where part 2???

It caused Vietnam War veterans to have flash backs 😂😂😂
0:45 I hope that was a joke because that’s just sad if it’s actually true.
Nope, it was a report from one of the zoo's books.
@@ZooTours Oh, I didn’t know that. I’m going this Friday, I guess that could be a fact I can share with my family who’s also going.
I went to the zoo before
How do you pronounce it? Lid not lied? As in from lie?
The correct pronunciation 'Leed'
