Have you ever hunted grouse in Wisconsin? I have a Setter "Gunner" who does a great job pheasant hunting, i wanted to see how he would do with grouse. Any advice?

Hey Paul, I love the show. I have a question for you or maybe some other dog guy reading this. Why in the world do people train their dogs to only be released by a tap on the back of the head? I have a release word for my setter just like you have your words, super and amen. It just seems like a pain to have to walk over and tap the dog on the head when a word from afar can do the same thing.

There are many ways to train a dog. Some people simply prefer the tap on the head. My wife and I like at least two methods...verbal and tap on the head. We hunt heavy cover and often we wouldn't be able to get to the dog to tap it. So, the verbal command is very handy to have.

What is your opinion on a good grouse, woodcock, and ducks. Which breed would be best for all of these game.

for ALL of these??? plus duck's??? a pointing dog can not point a duck my friend unless you set a pair of wing's on it!!! try a springer for general use...

Donnay Hill to slow, to rough... a springer is better BUT only if bloodline is field... not show dog's... now for woodcock an English pointer or setter is good, long distance and fast but it depends of the hunting ground (terrain)because these dogs need A LOT of space to give results. In my country (Greece) land belongs to state so one can hund in all Greece exept natura preserves... so a long distance dog (over 300 meters) can find real use.
