I feel like magical girl anime overall is super underrated compared to the genres that are more “catered toward a young male audience”, but that’s a topic for another day. I love that you talked about this series but I’m guilty of only reading the manga so it was nice to see how the show played out without having to watch it
I was a HUGE hyperfixation in Shugo Chara when I was like 11 and oH MY LORD. You just gave me war flashbacks. I read both the manga and watched all of the anime back in the day and lemme tell you, thinking back to it now, there’re so many weird things about it. Like, in the manga in the beginning of the story, Amu was in FOURTH. GRADE. Ikuto was implied to be in HIGH SCHOOL. It’s so freaking weird to think how I used to ship it as a kid who knew no better. Also Utau’s crush on Ikuto was unnerving, I had no idea why her only motivation to keep on working with Easter was basically because she liked her brother and treated Amu AS COMPETITION FOR HIM. LIKE. It was so weird, smh
I highly recommend the very first Pretty Cure anime (titled just that, nothing else), it is a little cheesy but I loved it when I was 12 (?) and I remember some things that still make me a little emotional lmao
even though Shugo Chara has some pretty problematic moments (regarding to incest and psuedo pedophilic messaging), it was still one of my first magical girl anime and made me fall in love with the genre so apart of me still appreciates it. thanks for talking about it❤❤❤
like i gotten so sad when i was in the process of making this video. the show really ruined a good story that the manga created. it feel off so hard and now barely anyone remembers it or cares. i believe this show really could have been the next sailor moon or naturo or my hero academia if the writing didn't get so bad.
what i really disliked about this show is how they exploited the same transformations (amulet heart, royal platinum, dear baby etc.) and i really would've like more of yamato nadeshiko, sky jack, samurai soul, etc.
One advantage is that there's no manga to adapt and the seasons are all different and you can start anywhere as long as the season doesn't have a sequel.
Shugo Chara is the only anime I've ever watched all the way through. I remember waking up every Saturday to rush downstairs for the translation uploads. I haven't watched it since Party! ended (and those live action girls were literally just like "okay shows over forever BYEEE" )though so I have zero quality context
i only read the manga so when i talked to my friends about it i was confused by some of the changes. glad to hear parts of the anime and the manga still hold up, but i hope the show gets the fruits basket treatment (though it won't fix a lot ofc). the anime had to stall for the ongoing manga, yes, but they could have waited a year to make party for a coherent ending for yall. :/
I want a manga-accurate anime adaption so bad. The creators have been posting about it much more recently and there's been lots of new merchandise coming out (even reprints of the first four volumes), so I really hope it gets a revival through anime
Oh man. This is a throwback even tho I'm only 15 years old. Ikuto and Amu was really weird for me. Like, Amu is legit an ELEMENTARY student and Ikuto is nearly (basically) an adult. I really liked the 1st season of Shugo Chara, but the 2nd season seemed to only exist to fuel the Ikuto and Amu shippers (dunno why they exist). I still remember having the biggest, fattest crush on both versions of Nadeshiko/Nagihiko. I also really loved Rima's character and her friendship with Amu. And lastly, Tadase is such an interesting take on the "prince" trope character :))
Okay but I literally still have Black diamond song on one of my UA-cam playlists. It still slaps also the outfits in this anime were what kept me coming back

You know, I recently rewatched some Atomic Betty episodes and I realized that the main character, Betty handles her crushes better than Marinette. There was even an episode where Betty met her crush's best friend who is also a girl. Betty thought the girl likes her crush and moped and thought she the friend was perfect. Later after Betty's friend gave her come confidence, she decided to talk to the friend, but didn't got a chance. After that she found out the friend only like her crush as a friend and her crush likes her. Also Betty is 12 years old, two years younger than Marinette.
Seems more like a big difference in writing than just the characters themselves. Because, y'know, Atomic Betty didn't hinge the success of its show on two kids getting together.

Party, on the other hand, was a different story. Not kidding, I watched the first episode and was like "Yeah, I'm done here. I'm gonna go read some fan fiction instead." I also loved Magical DoReMi back when it aired on 4Kids, and you would not believe how both incredibly excited and confused I was to see there were more seasons of the show years later. Seeing as you really enjoyed both Shugo Chara and Ojamajo Doremi, there is another magical girl show I would like to recommend to you: Pretty Cure. It was one of the first anime I ever got into and I still adore it. Good stories, nice messages, wonderful characters, and last but not least, some stellar animation sometimes. While many other magical girl shows have the girls mostly fighting with magical beams and such, Pretty Cure takes a more direct approach with girls fighting the monsters with punches and kicks, as well as magical beams. With a couple of exceptions, most of the seasons don't connect with any of the others and stand on their own, so you can start from pretty much anywhere. I would recommend starting with either Heartcatch Precure, Smile Precure, or Go! Princess Precure. I would especially recommend you watch Heartcatch Precure, since it has many similarities to Miraculous Ladybug (except Heartcatch Precure is way bette- WHAT!? who said that?). The main problem that would come with that is only three of the seasons have been dubbed in English, and you said in your video how you're more likely to watch an anime if it has an English dub. I can't speak of the quality of the English dub of the very first season of Pretty Cure. However, you might have heard of the other dubs of Smile Precure and DokiDoki Precure, or as they're known on Netflix, Glitter Force and Glitter Force DokiDoki. I can say with confidence that they're not very good dubs compared to the original products. They changed the names of characters and such, simplified the characters, cut a lot of the story, etc. I think they were doing what you stated in your video about trying to find an audience for the show. I think they were trying to simplify it to get more kids to watch it, even though the show was originally aimed at kids anyway, and ended up hurting the quality of the show more than anything. They didn't even the dub entirety of both seasons, as many episodes were cut, which is incredibly annoying. For example, there is an episode in Smile Precure that many fans, myself included, consider to be one of the best episodes not only in Smile Precure, but in the Pretty Cure series as a whole. It's about one of the main characters, Yayoi, dealing with not being able to remember why her dad gave her her name. The only two people who know why she was named Yayoi are her and her father, who told her at some point when she was younger. However, her dad has been dead for years, and she spends the episode struggling with not being able to remember something really important. The episode treats the subject very seriously, acknowledging how one can still grieve over the loss of a loved one even years after they've passed away. It's such a good episode and IT'S NOT IN THE ENGLISH DUB. Sorry I ranted on about Pretty Cure for a while there, but it comes from a place of love. As stated before, great video, and if you want to make a video about Ojamajo Doremi in the future, I'll be sure to watch that, as well.

I'm annoyed that you uploaded this TWO days ago and I wasn't here for it 😭 regardless I'm excited to watch the video Even though this animanga isn't popular anymore, it's one of my hyperfixations and I love it despite the flaws. I would absolutely recommend reading the manga rather than watching the show, or if you watch the anime, at least make the effort to read the books because it ends in a way that ties up everything (while leaving some questions), and it’s emotionally satisfying

It’s fine you didn’t show a lot of anime clips. A lot of anime studios do abuse the copyright system. Currently Toe Animation is the worst candidate of copyright abuse right now. They are literally flagging/taking down any video that has any of their property in it. Even if it’s not a clip, like if it’s a still image for a tier list they are taking the video down.
After Ikuto left to find his dad I tried watching the first episode of like the third season I think? When they brought in that girl who I think is related to Amu, and I got so bored but to just see I watched two more episodes and I just couldn't stand it anymore. Sidenote: I loved my magical doremi, I remember watching it every Saturday when I was a kid

Shugo chara used to be really hyped in east asia and chile...the fandom always dragging about who amu should be with, but fr i think amu should stay single and keep finding what's for her best.Cause at the end of the stories she was still a 12 yo. BTW, I feel lucky amu didn't make it with ikuto, that high school homeboy is literally giving me siblings tiktok vibe,just creepy😬😬😬 Also,Nagihito is the first non-binary character i've seen on tv and i really like that storyline and rima's😭😭
Not too long ago I actually started rewatching Shugo Chara for the first time since middle school, and I definitely agree on a lot of points. Much of the story holds up super well and it preaches a lot of good things about friendship and self-esteem (hell, now that I'm an adult these are lessons I no longer take for granted), but at the same time there's a lot of things that didn't age well. And after being reminded of just what went down, I'm probably not gonna end up revisiting Doki.
Harriyanna out here saying how magical girls are the real thing that got her into anime and then talking about Ojomajo Doremi....harriyanna once again having great taste I see B) for real shoujo especially magical girls are so underrated especially in the american market (mostly cause misogony leading to shows catering to men being prioritized :/)
To be honest, shipping popularity tends to ruin most shows. People always ship characters that were not to be together at the beginning and then the writers end up trying to force a relationship between the characters when it never would have worked out. The Amu and Ikuto relationship disturbed me back then. It disturbs me even more now.
While the anime had its problematic moments and writing, it still holds a very special place in my heart. The series played a huge part in my childhood as far as inspiring me to be myself. The music was amazing, and I still listen to the opening and ending themes a lot! Buono anyone? Looking back now, I can see why it didn't make a huge impact in the states, because of marketing. But maybe if there's some type of reboot or revival of the show, they can finally work on a dub. Tbh if they ever do a dub, I really wanna voice Ikuto💗

I got into the anime when I was in middle school when my friends and cousin introduce me to this anime. But, they tried to get to me to not ship Amuto (due to the age gap) lol I just love the openings and ending music now.

One thing I've noticed about magical girl/shojo anime as opposed to shonen anime is that dubs for the former are way more likely to whitewash the characters and settings, give the girls western names, and change/erase aspects of Japanese culture to make them more western. Examples such as Sailor Moon, Smile Precure, Tokyo Mew Mew, Cardcaptor Sakura, and PowerPuff Girls Z prove this, meanwhile this doesn't happen so much with shonen, which tends to be more faithful. Also magical girl anime tends to try to make it more boy-centric as well, changing the name to be more gender-neutral and placing the guy front and center, like the Cardcaptor Sakura dub which changed the name to Cardcaptors, and tried to plant Syaoran in the main character role. Basically giving it the Tangled/Frozen treatment. Can you imagine if a My Hero Academia dub tried to market it towards a female/gender-neutral audience by pretending that Ochaco Uraraka was the lead??? I'm so sick of male audiences being treated as the more important demographic for everything.
The live action segments of Shugo Chara Party were kinda cute (for those who remembered) but they were definitely made for little kids so I understand the hate lol
What I love about doki is that Nagihiko got a major role in the story and got good development. But party is cute but kinda stupid in a way because of the segment shows with the idols and the chibi series was a waste of time. If they wanted to create that content they could have made a separate UA-cam channel at the time for that content.

The anime was an unfaithful trainwreck and you should NEVER watch it. It wasn't faithful to the manga. You think I'm joking? The first episode alone had 6 huge mistakes and wasn't faithful to the first chapter at all. The voice actors were so perfect but ugh the anime was just so bad. They ruined the arcs, ruined everyone's character development, etc... it needs a reboot so badly.

I remember when I was like 9, I used ship Ikuto and Amu, thinking it was cute and romantic 💀 But now that i look at it and after doing research..the age difference does not sit right with me, and I'm just realising how weird the show actually was, I still remember that one scene where Utao kissed her brother like wtf- 😬😅 but tbh Shugo Chara still has a space in my heart, since it was my first anime ever and I remember enjoying it..

Shugo chara used to be really hyped in east asia and chile...the fandom always dragging about who amu should be with, but fr i think amu should stay single and keep finding what's for her best.Cause at the end of the stories she was still a 12 yo.
BTW, I feel lucky amu didn't make it with ikuto, that high school homeboy is literally giving me siblings tiktok vibe,just creepy😬😬😬
Also,Nagihito is the first non-binary character i've seen on tv and i really like that storyline and rima's😭😭
Not too long ago I actually started rewatching Shugo Chara for the first time since middle school, and I definitely agree on a lot of points. Much of the story holds up super well and it preaches a lot of good things about friendship and self-esteem (hell, now that I'm an adult these are lessons I no longer take for granted), but at the same time there's a lot of things that didn't age well. And after being reminded of just what went down, I'm probably not gonna end up revisiting Doki.

To be honest, shipping popularity tends to ruin most shows. People always ship characters that were not to be together at the beginning and then the writers end up trying to force a relationship between the characters when it never would have worked out. The Amu and Ikuto relationship disturbed me back then. It disturbs me even more now.

While the anime had its problematic moments and writing, it still holds a very special place in my heart. The series played a huge part in my childhood as far as inspiring me to be myself. The music was amazing, and I still listen to the opening and ending themes a lot! Buono anyone? Looking back now, I can see why it didn't make a huge impact in the states, because of marketing. But maybe if there's some type of reboot or revival of the show, they can finally work on a dub. Tbh if they ever do a dub, I really wanna voice Ikuto💗

I got into the anime when I was in middle school when my friends and cousin introduce me to this anime. But, they tried to get to me to not ship Amuto (due to the age gap) lol I just love the openings and ending music now.
If Shugo Chara wasn’t so messed up, I’d be happy if it got a reboot so it could be more faithful to the manga & get a proper ending.

I had never heard of "Shugo Chara" or "Ojamajo Doremi" until now.
Shugo Chara was one of my childood show but I never got past Doki because the french dub stopped so good for me I guess
One thing I've noticed about magical girl/shojo anime as opposed to shonen anime is that dubs for the former are way more likely to whitewash the characters and settings, give the girls western names, and change/erase aspects of Japanese culture to make them more western. Examples such as Sailor Moon, Smile Precure, Tokyo Mew Mew, Cardcaptor Sakura, and PowerPuff Girls Z prove this, meanwhile this doesn't happen so much with shonen, which tends to be more faithful. Also magical girl anime tends to try to make it more boy-centric as well, changing the name to be more gender-neutral and placing the guy front and center, like the Cardcaptor Sakura dub which changed the name to Cardcaptors, and tried to plant Syaoran in the main character role. Basically giving it the Tangled/Frozen treatment. Can you imagine if a My Hero Academia dub tried to market it towards a female/gender-neutral audience by pretending that Ochaco Uraraka was the lead??? I'm so sick of male audiences being treated as the more important demographic for everything.

The live action segments of Shugo Chara Party were kinda cute (for those who remembered) but they were definitely made for little kids so I understand the hate lol
What I love about doki is that Nagihiko got a major role in the story and got good development. But party is cute but kinda stupid in a way because of the segment shows with the idols and the chibi series was a waste of time. If they wanted to create that content they could have made a separate UA-cam channel at the time for that content.

The anime was an unfaithful trainwreck and you should NEVER watch it. It wasn't faithful to the manga. You think I'm joking? The first episode alone had 6 huge mistakes and wasn't faithful to the first chapter at all. The voice actors were so perfect but ugh the anime was just so bad. They ruined the arcs, ruined everyone's character development, etc... it needs a reboot so badly.

some nostalgic feelings were unlocked with the locket scene, cause this anime was my shit, but I never finished it past maybe the first or part of the second season. but at the same time hated whatever was going on with the sister. Also I think even as a kid i wanted to throw hands with the cat guy, like bro i MAY BE LIKE 11 OR 12 but even i knew it was sus. and i only had like the first two volumes of it, but i ended up never finishing it bc unfortunately it was around the same time i got into hetalia which is a huge ass mess and i regret getting into
