    One of the best bits of this films promotion was Jo’s speech to her mother in the attic about women and love - and then when she adds on “but I’m so lonely” in the movie. Was spectacular. Nobody saw it coming

    I loved the portrayal of Amy and Laurie’s relationship in this movie specifically, painted their relationship so well - how Laurie fell in love with Amy without knowing she ever loved him. He fell in love with her independence, her willingness to not only do what’s right, but what’s smartest and best for all parties involved. She has a way of being selfish with integrity and confidence. She’s elegant, kind, well mannered, funny, intelligent and never lowers her standards. She doesn’t settle and never allows herself too. I think Amy has all the qualities Laurie lacked! Jo wouldn’t make Laurie a better man, Amy did without even trying!

    I think anyone who ships Jo and Laurie sees their surface-level connection. Of course they seem like soulmates because of their close bond, but they are basically siblings. @ryanjstannard 4 роки тому +426

    I resonate so much with Florence’s portrayal as Amy. Growing up as the younger sibling, I used to always struggle to exceed out of my brother’s shadow. After watching this movie I realized that Amy did the same. That is why she was so torn about marrying Laurie: because to some people, she would only be getting him because of Jo’s rejection. However, after she discovered herself as a painter and matured in Europe you not only see her grow out of Jo’s shadow, but you see her shape a new shadow of her own. And she realizes that it’s of no importance what people think about her and Laurie’s love, he truly cares for her and she cares for him.

    • @anncheng3840
      @anncheng3840 4 роки тому

      Ryan Stannard I don’t think Laurie truly loves Amy. He married Amy because he can be a family members of Jo and get to see her easily.

    • @ryanjstannard
      @ryanjstannard 4 роки тому +39

      Ann Cheng He made it evident on several occasions throughout the movie that he wasn’t in love with Jo anymore. Why would he attempt to only get closer to Jo when he has no romantic attachment to her. Furthermore, Jo and Laurie are both chaotic and rebellious in nature. That is why, even Jo, doesn’t believe their relationship would work. It would just end in them fighting all the time. Amy is weight that keeps Laurie grounded in a positive way. She keeps him realistic and in return he keeps her on her toes.

I think it was all somehow in their destiny, Amy was to finally be with the Lawrence boy who brought her injured Eldest sister home and Laurie was to be with the girl who was crying outside his window in the snow.

    great gerwig's adaptation really helped me to appreciate laurie and amy's relationship. I feel like earlier adaptations have made the mistake of making it seem as if laurie settled by choosing to be with amy after being rejected by jo, and i carried that opinion for a long time. but in this movie you can really see the ways that amy and laurie compliment each other. love doesn't always have to be an intense soul connection like what laurie and jo had. sometimes love is looking up at someone and realizing for the first time how truly comfortable you are with them and how much they compliment you. laurie and amy's relationship captures that dynamic perfectly.

    I think the people who shipped Jo and Laurie often romanticize the idea of twin flames--two people with an immediate connection that feel such intense passion for one another. But that passion translates in a negative way as well. Timothee is correct in saying they may have connected intensely, but it would have never been good for them, and the relationship Amy and Laurie have is much healthier and lifelong. I think that in our youth, many crave a passionate love. Because that's how we interpret love at this stage in life. But I think a true love is one that's reliable, that builds each other into better people, that learns and grows. Jo and Laurie would have never had that.

    I LOVED the 90’s edition of this film, I grew up on it, I fell in love with Christian Bale.. and I was SO excited for this version - I love the actors, and the director. And I didn’t know I could love a film so much. Greta did such a wonderful wonderful job with this one! Best film of the year! I love it so much more than the 90’s version now! Wow! I never knew I could love a movie so much. And it was one of the best cinema experiences I’ve ever had! The entire theater was quiet the whole time except for laughs and snickers and joyous moments! This film captivated the audience... so good

      Dynestee Fields then I don’t think you understand love. If you have read the book you realise that Jo needs the professor because he is gentle and kind and brings out the nurturing side of her, whereas Amy needs Laurie because he teaches her how to be vulnerable

      @@sarailahi7945 Interesting. Did Jo need the nurturing side to her brought out? I don't think that either of these people needed to be married to learn any of those things. Beth was enough to bring out Jo's nurturing side. I guess that you could make a fair argument for Laurie, who was a moping mess for a while. The point is, however, that married love isn't the only way to bring about character growth. If it is, woe to us who remain happily unmarried. We never improve in any way.

    • @sarailahi7945
      @sarailahi7945 4 роки тому +27

      Dynestee Fields you need to understand that remaining unmarried is fine in today’s world, back then it was nessacary to be married because it secured a persons financial safety . If they had to get married anyway then I’m glad they ended up with who they did . Also this wish that they had travelled together is a childish hope, and you know very well it was impractical. Furthermore yes Jo did need her nurturing side to be brought out because it was time for her to grow up, and live for someone other than Beth, and her marriage gave her roots, inspiration, and peace... isn’t that better than s life lived all over their place and dats filled with pointless banter with someone who can never be a companion to her ?

      I think it's the difference between first love and long-lasting love. I remember when I was a child, I was utterly heartbroken that they didn't end up together because they fit my idea of romance perfectly; but as I've grown up, I've started to side with Jo. Plus she never really loved him the way he did her. Maybe if Laurie didn't propose when he did and they both had time to grow up a little, it would have worked. (Then again, I also now headcanon both of them as gay so idk)

    just my opinion but i can't see why some people don't think amy and laurie were a perfect match! I mean, they really love each other (and they have romantic feelings for each other), and they complement each other in their weak areas, they express with honesty their opinions about the things that they're right and wrong, jo and laurie could have never done that, it's quite clear when jo says she wouldn't change a thing about him. plus, there's the fact that jo never loved him that way, and laurie's feelings for jo (in a romantic way) werent that deep.
    Also i thought florence and tim had amazing chemistry :)

Two sides of one coin doesn't make it two coins, it's still one. In love you need two. Jo and Laurie ending up together is too byronic, something LM Alcott wasn't. I think that if Jo March was a real person who existed in 2020, she would 100% be a lesbian. I don't think that back when little women was set, there was an understanding of love that was anything but straight. I don't think Jo, or probably any other woman back then, had the perspective to even consider that she might like a women. I think that Jo being forced to include a love story at the end of her book was a direct metaphor to her feeling socially compelled to go after Friedrich at the end. She was lonely, because society, back then, offered no outlet for women, who were not romantically interested in men, to have a necessary connection with anyone, and she was thereby 'forced' to find a companion.

      I wouldn't say it's impossible but I would strongly disagree with several points - being gay has existed since the dawn of time, and a head-strong woman wanting to make her way in life without a man should not automatically have her sexuality firmly decided. When people do this I think it cheapens the message, I've seen people do that with many works of literature

    WHAT IF IT HURTS A MILIMETER MORE EVERY DAY?!
    My sister experienced a break up, she got through a crying stage and all, and a month later, she's over it.
    Me, on the other hand, went through a break up and A YEAR AND A HALF AGO and it didn't hurt at the beginning at all but then day after day it just started getting ridicuoulous, I began dreaming of him litteraly ALL THE TIME at night and ALL THROUGHT the day. It's getting worse and worse.
    Any advice? The only thing keeping me sane is uni lol, no but really the fact that I have my priorities made straight, and the fact that he's better off without me. He's just too good for me. But I am losing hope I will ever stop thinking about him daily. Wondering if he's okay, what he's doing, if he's etc. He ignores me completely since we broke up (actually, I was the one who said we should, what an irony i know aaaaah but i was like he wants kids and i don't and yeah it's LAME).
