Knowing he's going to be defeated in the battle and yet chooses to be on the side of his dear friend, to pay off the debt he thinks he owes, knowing all that he could have gotten should he chosen to switch the sides and have the world at his feet, he still chose to stick by his words, the promise he paid to his dear friend - such an awesome character and personality - fearless, selfless, and great by his deeds & thoughts, the "danveer" Karna - just like the beam of the sunlight (and rightfully called the "Suryaputra" - as being the son of the Sun (literally). There was no need for him to take the promise from Krishna to hide his real identify from his brothers so that there be a fair fight - he's one of the true Heroes that stands out and leaves his own indelible mark in Mahabharata! I'm at awe of him!

Karna took The Right Choice Of Not Betraying his friend,Identifying by the name of his Adoptive Mother.Ik He sided with Adharma which was The biggest sin he ever did but keep yourself in his shoes and Try to analyse your situation before giving any judgement.I might be wrong in this But Lord Krishna also respected his decision so I think what Karna did was right acc to the situation.
Krishna threw so much temptations on karna but could not move him from his decision. The reason, he was pandava's brother shows his steadfastness to stick to what he feels is his responsibility as Duryodhana's friend.😊 What a great warrior🎉

I've been reviewing the discussions and comments here, and I feel compelled to highlight that the subject at hand is much more profound than the conclusions we are drawing. Remember, Maharshi Veda Vyasa, who is revered as an avatar of Lord Krishna himself, labeled Karna as one of the four dushtas (wicked ones) in the Mahabharata. He documented the extensive Vedic literature including the 18 Puranas, the Upanishads, and the six darshanas, among others. Vyasa, knowing the past, present, and future, pointed out that Karna, along with Duryodhana, Dushasana, and Shakuni, was irredeemably wicked.
One significant reason for this might be that Karna could not let go of his past. He constantly lamented about his origins and blamed his mother, referring to himself as the son of a charioteer. Such discrimination, however, was not prevalent in ancient Bharat, evidenced by stories where individuals of humble origins rose to significant positions, illustrating that the society was advanced and emancipated. The Pandavas, unlike Karna, did not harbor such grievances.
Take, for example, how the Pandavas handled adversities. Bhima was poisoned by Duryodhana at a young age, yet Yudhishthira, adhering to the principles of Dharma, harbored no ill will, attributing the events to karma and divine will, emphasizing the pursuit of dharma over revenge.
Karna, on the other hand, harbored unexplained revenge against Arjuna, leading to his repeated defeats. This highlights a key spiritual teaching: true spirituality is realizing one's identity as the Atma, beyond physical or mental attributes. Identification with the body or mind as opposed to the Atma leads to sin, as noted in Christian teachings as well where all are considered sinners who identify with their corporeal existence.
This understanding is pivotal in Hindu philosophy, which teaches that the ultimate goal is not to identify with the three shariras (physical, subtle, and causal bodies) but to use them as instruments to achieve moksha (liberation). This topic is vast and intricate, potentially expanding into extensive discussions, but these are a few insights I wanted to share in this context.
Even so, Karna is a remarkable figure by the standards of Kaliyuga. We are so deeply entangled in Maya that we scarcely stand a chance of escaping the ocean of samsara.
