@David_Edos I'm not saying every cop comedy is boring. I'm saying brooklyn 99 is amazing, Is hitchcock and skully are hilarious, and a spin-off about them wouldn't be a Hitchcock and skully show, it would be a show about kickass cops in the 80s. And if you're gonna make one of those, why even connect it to Brooklyn 99.
@@Thjor246 idk about you guys, but i want a hitchcock and scully spinoff show just to see how they went from this to that. a 5 season arc of the swashbuckling duos descend from glory
the entire scene starting at 8:16 is one of my favourite (and least favourite, i suppose) scenes of all time - tragic and eye opening and samberg plays jake with a heartbreaking relatability
You'd be surprised how many 'comedian' type-casts can handle a wide variety of roles like this. I remember when this series was announced, nobody took it seriously BECAUSE Andy Samburg was the staring role, they assumed the SNL alumni meant it was gonna be slapstick nonsense. Then the first season aired and proved all the doubters wrong.
It's not the first time something like this has happened. Bryan Cranston(Hal/Walter White), Hugh Laurie(Bertie, Prince George/Gregory House) are examples as well. It's crazy, but it's also pretty cool.
It’s not that surprising once you remember this advice from Brian Cranston that the key to great comedy acting is that you need to be serious no matter how absurd the situation is around you.
Indeed. It's unfortunate as several, given opportunity/talent, have shown very successful dramatic turns on the big screen. Belushi, Murray, Murphy, Akroyd, Downey Jr, Quaid, Sandler are just a few.
I've always thought that comedian type actors have the best range in terms of showing off a more serious role. Robin Williams, Tom Hanks, Jim Carrey, Brian Cranston, are some of the best examples I can think off the top of my head. Of course there are many others that I didn't mention.
Even though the debate between Amy and Jake on whether or not to have kids is serious, I always laugh at Holt, Kevin and Gale giving their credentials and Jake’s exasperated reaction.😂😂😂
@@yashbalaji3262 So glad I'm not the only one who thinks this. Everyone really bowled over his issues with being a parent and then all of a sudden he agrees at the end of the day? It feels wrong that something so traumatic and long-standing was cured in such a short amount of time.
4:04 Jake taking and 19:24 losing a bet to Rosa by doing a thousand pushups in the precinct is one of the best scenes. Andy Samberg playing the serious character were brilliant.
Andy samberg is one of my favorite actors. I'm his age so I feel like I've gotten to grow up, emotionally, with him. It's amazing to see him be so goofy but yet so relatable and emotionally intelligent. I respect him as a person. ❤
I loved the debate because people need to have serious discussions about such big decisions, while being honest and transparent no matter the conclusion.
8:50 this is the one time I couldn’t understand the writers. Amy’s situation is awful and happens in real life, so it’s played dead straight. Which it should be. But, Holt had something really similar happen with Wunch. She made a pass at him, got rejected, and then purposely sabotaged his career multiple times. For some reason, Holt’s situation was played for comedy.
Wunch was never angry about Holt rejecting her though. She said his openness about his sexuality was the one thing she respected about him. There was a bunch of stuff that they did to one another and Holt assumed it started from that. Still though, if it was that was never revealed then they shouldn’t have played off the Holt Wunch thing for laughs

I believe it stems from a pattern I see in some comedians who don't rely on making others feel bad for who they are. They are actual emotional geniuses, so if they tackle drama seriously, they get it down with ease. They are not trying to make you laugh, they're not telling "jokes", they're vibing with you and that creates connection.
"Because he actually asked her out" I love Boyle so much
I loved that moment too😭
"Raymond. Kevin. I'll be reporting this"
Its so a throaway line but so funny.
Enjoyed the series but sad that they dropped Gina...
You missed out the moment when he said he wasn't suited to be back on the field as a detective, after being prison
omg yes!!
Still think there should be a spin off show about the early days of Hitchcock and Scully back in their early days.
Reacher is close enough lol
To be honest, they would never really live up to brooklyn 99. It would just be another boring cop show.

Because there’s only 20 minutes of Jake being serious in the show to edit together anyway lol
