      Michael Trice my mim strat with blender pots sounds better than my American deluxe strat by miles ......so much more grit ...I love both and are similar but to get the grit out of the deluxe everything needs to be turnt up a lot more....(noiseless 3 pups ) so yeah try the original pups for awhile and I think u may be satisfied

    • @CNCTEMATIC
      @CNCTEMATIC 7 років тому +2

      MIM Strats are great value, but in my experience they have one downside: the necks are very prone to twisting. Happened to me twice. When that happens all u can do is have a crowning job on the frets, which costs. Once you've upgraded the pups, given it a set up, if the neck twists you end up having spent as much as on an American. Now I have an Eric Johnson and its night and day. But its all part of the journey. A MIM will give you plenty of joy. Just make sure you get it set up by someone who's the real deal (every kid in a music shop thinks he can do it). Look for a tech in their 60s who's a Strat player, My 2 cents :-)

      You are 100 percent right. I started playing about a year ago and bought a 2007 MIM Strat. Little did I know the neck was bowed. I had it setup twice, had frets crowned and it still buzzed on the g string. I eventually just went and bought a new neck. I've now changed every thing on that guitar minus the body: SSl1/SSL5 pups, new neck, locking tuners, and a blade runner bridge. I could've easily bought a brand new am strat for what I have in, which I have btw (17 Am Pro Strat). The MIM is now an amazing guitar and I like it more than my American, but to do it over again I would've prob went American from the get go.

    Sounds like Fender should have paid Hendrix a percentage of each Strat sale.
    Very nice Marty, you have some cool friends. One of my friends has a 71 SG, he got it real cheap & it sounds awesome.
    Your Loser concept lesson caused the light to go on in my dim brain and caused me to grasp how to play more melodically, please do more of these type lessons, especially in regards to arpeggios.

    Not an expert or anything but just doing some research it seems that the strat and fender as a whole were taking a face dive because of the CBS buy out.. things went down hill from there. That could be why they weren't selling. You might even be able to say that Jimi Hendrix saved fender. And now look some things do have happy endings, fender was bought back from CBS in the mid 80s and now they are back to being quality instruments

      William Nolan Yes. Had a friend who played in a jam band wailing away on a 335. And it was the most amazing sound, guitar, chops and all. Then I thought of all the great players B.B., Chuck and Justin Hayward. That sound is so sweet.

    I had a mim I bought in 2010 that I changed the pups on and today I got a 1974 USA, and I have to say after playing that for 8 years, the difference is almost a personal difference. Functionally they're the same, my vintage feel more slinky and free and the pickups are very warm. Everyone owes it to themselves to play both but I'm loving my first vintage strat, thanks for the video
