In 2013 when filming Living the Tradition, a documentary I made with filmmaker Maarten Roos, I visited Micheal at his house to ask him about this beautiful Irish air which is set in the hills around where he lives. It was beautiful day and I needed to watch it again after hearing of his passing this week. It made me feel very sad and it's a huge loss to Ireland. We will miss him very much. He was a magnificent influence in so many people's lives, including my own and I'll always remember his generosity and kindness towards my film and for every time I worked with him.

All Respect to Mícheál Ó Súilleabháin! What a scholar!
Excellent short film. One feels like another guest dropping in to see a neighbour. Beautiful playing on the piano and cello. Mícheál was a fountain of knowledge. Many thanks, Llse
What a shame we lost Ó Súilleabháin. A mind full of treasure.
What a GENIUS MAN so much knowledge hopefully not lost when he left us....so missed
What a brilliant communicator he was.

They say the Soul moves on after death to heaven or wherever. But I wonder if there is something more going on here. It appears the Soul also remains. It remains between the pages of a manuscript, in a memory, and in the influences a person has on others and in the world all around. Doesn't a person's Soul continue charting its course in other’s lives? Perhaps we are all really knit together in some way we don't fully understand.
Scott Gaul ,indeed,perhaps.

I would love to get my hands on the 1745 version.
