If I recall right it was then Sqn Ldr Minoo Vania and Master Warrant Officer Venketachalam(the then School Warrant Officer) both of Paratroopers Training School Agra were awarded the Vayu Sena Medal for their display of exceptionally bravery,presence of mind and thinking on one's feet facing tremendous odds.They were both Para Jump Instructors(PJI's) from among the 80 odd PJI's who made this operation possible by being Para Despatchers on board all the aircraft commissioned for this para-drop.Army and Air Force Commanders would do well in recognising the conspicuous services rendered,then,before and since by these merry band of Instructors of the Indian Air Force.

Well, I have read books by Nitin Gokhle, Shiv Aroor & Mrs Bhisht as well as watched your's and other interviews, covering deeds of valour of our fighting men during various operations, including the 1971 war. The other day an old retired Air Force officer mentioned that Air Chief Marshall S.K.Kaul ( Rtd) who was the Air Chief around 1995, was awarded the MVC as a young fighter piolet while taking part in the Libration of Bangladesh, in the Eastern Sector in 1971. He is supposed to be living in Gurugram now. I have not come across any media report on his exploits either electronic or in book form. If correct, why not interview him too ?
The hang-up procedure is part of Standard Operating Procedure -an emergency handling anticipated,trained and planned for.All Paratroopers are explained during training by the Para Jump Instructors of the Indian Air Force.Trials for the hang up procedure are carried out from time to time for in-house instructor trg on different aircrafts if applicable.
The link up was another marvelous operation 1 Marathas commanded by legendary Kuldeep Singh Brar or Bulbul Brar, later went on to command 9 Div in the famous Op Bluestar rose to be the Eastern Army Commander.
I don't know why do you misrepresent history and unnecessarily glorify the meagre achievements of Indian army. I say meagre because the only achievements Indians have to show are against Pakistan ; a country 5 to 6 times smaller than them. And armed forces much smaller similarly. The Indian army invaded east Pakistan with a superiority of 15 to 1 which is way beyond the minimum required 3 to 1. And then the entire Bangladesh nation was against Pakistani Army. They had literally no air /navy support yet they fought for 6 months against an insurgency and then a month against Indian army. Now as far as misrepresenting history : tangail wasn't the largest. Larger para drops was made by us in Korea , Grenada and many other occasions.
The Pak army was supplied to the hilt by the USA , Chinese,Jordan and Saudi there was an entire US fleet in the neighborhood ready to attack and that time due to economic sanctions from the US India was not doing too well economically.The war redrew the map of Asia and created a country which is an Asian Tiger today.It also led to the largest surrender of an army which was done publically in front of a live media.
@@nobbypariyaram you are so terribly misinformed. The U.S. fleet entered, .I repeat entered, Bay of Bengal on 15 Dec by which time everything was almost over. If we wanted to attack India and help Pakistan we would not have been so lazy. Believe me If the U.S. fleet wanted to help Pakistan , nothing would have remained of the Indian navy. But we had no intention of helping Pakistan in east and already considered it a lost cause

Gen Nirbhay Sharma is a Legend. He was probably the most effective GOC 15 Corps.
