Alright here I go again, This time with "Sick Boi", I can't say enough about Ren he has impressed me a great deal in just these two videos now. Also once again Thank you All for the support you have shown me!
You wanna get to know Ren? It's simple... watch his 8 chapters that end with his track Troubles!!! Watch them all BEFORE doing Troubles! They in his Troubles Playlist, and on his channel Renmakesstuff! Each chapter covers what he went thru feom being bitten... to now! It's UNREAL!!!! Each chapter ends with an older song of his that relates to each chapter!!! Again... it's UNREAL!!!! You'll notice ALL of his songs, his lyrics, Relate to his life FOR REAL!!! Unlike alot of artist who use mental illness as a topic of their writing... knowing it's popular now! All while exasperating the hell outta it! You'll see Rens lyrics are Legit!!!!
"Impressed...two videos" Me? 40+ videos and I'm impressed with them all. When I found HI Ren, I was afraid it was a one-off. It isn't, everything I have seen him do is surprising and impressive Art. Still. - Thank you for sharing your reaction and bits of yourself. Enjoy the Ren journey!
Great reaction! I love how Ren shows in the beginning of this that he is going through so much stress and is frustrated with being there, he is grunting and all that and then when she starts talking to him, he calmly replies, “thank you for seeing me” like his ability to show the inner turmoil of struggling while trying to just move along in society and get the treatment as prescribed. I don’t even know if I expressed myself right here lol but he is a genius! ❤
Ren packs so much in every piece of music - even the shorter pieces are multi-layered. They are his personal story but also universally relatable. And you are so right about the music industry (and the health care system). Both are beyond broken with devastating impacts to individuals who become a part of them. I am so glad that Ren is independent. We simply do not get this quality of art from anyone who signs on the dotted line. The system virtually guarantees it will smother the creative flame out of any young, aspiring artist. I continue to look forward to your Ren journey. There is so, so much more.
Im going to school for psychology. One of the things they emphasize now in courses is to get rid of preconceived notions. And your relationship with you and the client is more important than treatment and diagnosis. I'm so glad the mental health profession is seeing these problems and working with current students to correct them. It's not a perfect answer, and watching Ren's story makes me see what I need to do better to be more effective and compassionate. His story is highly influencing my educational journey.
Ren's album, "Sick Boi", was released as the #1 album in the UK and landed on the Billboard Top 200 Albums. He managed this without a record label and he was unable to promote the album except through social media because he was in Canada receiving treatment for about a year before its release and unable to tour. It's an incredible success story. I will say that your views on therapy are a little paranoid. Saying they're incentivized not to help is like saying a plumber is incentivized not to fix your plumbing issues - yes, they may lose you as a customer, but there are always new customers and word-of-mouth/reputation ensures continued business. That doesn't mean there aren't problems.
I immersed myself in this artist’s catalogue a month or so after Hi Ren came out and now LOVE living vicariously through reactors who are just experiencing these songs for the first time, but have seen so many now that I crave those who have a new take. Your channel is filling my “needs” perfectly!
It’s an easy line to miss you could even consider it a throwaway line but the very first thing he says is the best clue as to what’s going on with him and you wouldn’t know it unless you listen to an interview where he talks about it. “ sick boy, sick boy bitten by a tick boy” He went, almost 10 years undiagnosed with Lyme disease. This caused an auto immunity response where he was in constant physical pain. He couldn’t keep anything down over half of that time he couldn't even get out of bed and the doctors kept telling him it’s all in his head. At some point mental break. He tells a story of how he knew something was going on with him everybody told him there was nothing wrong with him so after years five years I think he had convinced himself that this was some kind of conspiracy he thought someone or something was doing this to him and watching him so he started doing things to throw that system of control off he said one time he got completely naked walked out and lay down in the road and just started psychotically laughing thinking the whole time they will never expect this. It was a Truman Show moment. He spent every penny he had going to spiritual healers, specialist doctors, gurus, Google. Finally he found a specialist who did research more than anything and describe to him everything that has been going on which at this point he was very good at telling his story. The guy said you have Lyme disease man. Of course he tested him and waited for the diagnosis to come back but he told him he would bet everything he had on it. He was right unfortunately already gone almost a decade with it destroying his body he has brain damage and is still dealing with the side effects. He got famous a stem cell doctor saw what he putting on UA-cam and told him that if he could get to California he would do a stem cell transplant for free. So went to California and got that done and he still dealing with it but the stem cells provided a relief that he didn't think he was ever going to have. Thank God that happened not the bad stuff obviously the good stuff. This was all very recent within the past couple of years and he has been taking full advantage of his good health. REN is not just an amazing artist he's an amazing person. Kind and humble as well you should check out some of his interviews. It was one he recently did it's the newest interview that he has out it's an amazing interview you should see that. He has a video called spontaneous Livestream sometimes he'll just riff go live stream and sit there and just play while talking to people in chat. After you do the trilogy tales check out either Chuck outlines or how to be me both of those are done with chinchilla Beautiful voice she is amazing as well . He has a song with someone named boo called crutch it's older and he wrote it when he was going through the initial part of his sickness. Honestly just typing and whatever you pick I promise it will be amazing profound and different. Great reactions I love seeing your take on stuff keep it up man I'm subscribed.
Yeah, I heard it there and knew from everyone in the comments at this point the significance of that but as I was watching I was trying to understand where in the process he was with all of this. So I hesitated to make mention of it.
Sounds like you deal with aphantasia (lack of internal mental imagery)-I do too, though still manage to work an artist and interior designer. I don’t see anything though, it’s all so much more conceptual than visual. And then anendophasia, which is the lack of internal monologue. It’s pretty fascinating how differently people thank think and perceive reality. Even down to perceiving colors the same way. At any rate, Ren is an absolute musical genius. I’d suggest checking out his declared sister from another mister Chinchilla as well. Their duet Chalk Outlines is stellar, and her Fingers Live For Hunger TV is basically the best female vocal performance I’ve ever heard.
@@cultivatinggrace Yeah, here in the last year or so I've found that I've had to explain so often to literally everyone about Aphantasia and Anendophasia. Even worse is most of them don't believe its even a thing.
@@TheQuietPartPod I’m so sorry to hear that you’ve had such a hard time with that. I deal with aphantasia myself, despite being visually inclined, though it’s hard to describe to people. I just… don’t see things. I do imagine things, though, but apparently that’s not a good enough answer for some people. When doing the apple aphantasia test, I’m near the bottom. I also don’t know if folks with hearing thoughts mean they like, literally hear things or not. I do think with words but don’t actually hear words, and I’m not very sure about how other people experience those things. I hope things are well for you, and I’m sorry that some people have been unkind to you about how you experience the world. Basically every person experiences perception differently, and there’s nothing anyone can do to make that different. We are all just built differently-maybe that adds rather than subtracts from art and stuff. I hope you’re doing okay.
He puts the eventual correct diagnosis at the beginning, “sick boy, sick boy bitten by tick boy.” After seven years of misdiagnoses, he finally got to see a infectious disease specialist who diagnosed him, correctly, with Lyme disease. He is still receiving stem cell therapy to help ameliorate all the damage to his body that was caused by seven years of untreated Lyme disease. By the way, through most of his medical journey, he had to raise funds for every treatment he got because neither he nor his family were wealthy or even middle class. So, he is an incredibly resilient and determined human being. 🙏😊🙏

Socialized medicine in England was a a wonderful idea, but I get the sense that it’s being poorly implemented. From Ren’s interviews, it seems it is chronically underfunded and overburdened. Why? Because politicians are reluctant to raise taxes to properly fund social programs (at least they are here in America). Trying to hang on to their power, they leave the poor and sick to twist in the wind. And don’t think I am leaving their constituency out of this; they piss and moan every there’s a tax hike. Additionally, I am sure the NHS could probably be more efficient with the funds they’re given. However, having worked in healthcare in America before I started teaching, my experience taught me that it is an industry that puts profit over people. I worked in geriatrics, and every place I worked I encountered the same problems: severe understaffing and lack of supplies. Not sometimes, every. fucking. day. In these circumstances, it is impossible to give truly decent care. I remember many days when when I was only able to feed, bathe, and clothe the residents (and honestly, a lot of baths got missed). There was no time to do additional grooming or to have a halfway human conversation. I did the best I could, but I often left work feeling inadequate and depressed. This is part of the reason why I went back to college. If we, as a people, the decide that we're going to be compassionate and help poor, sick people get the care that they deserve, then we should be willing to pay the bill. Furthermore, the medical/ pharmaceutical industries need to stop being greedy and overbilling insurance companies who in turn raise premiums on their clients. It's a vicious circle we need to get out of. Great reaction thank you very much. 😊🙏😊
There are problems with social medicine, there are problems with a truly capitalized medical system as well. I don't know where the correct lane is and I don't think we're anywhere close to even figuring that out.
I found Ren last year when my eldest got sick. Autoimmune issues are tricky with very few undeniable markers. We spent three months back and forth before getting the lupus diagnosis. The average is six years, so nothing compared to how long Ren had to wait for his actual diagnosis... taking meds that were messing up his brain while his disease was doing the same thing... I felt like I was going insane, and it was only three months, and I wasn't the one with zero strength, no appetite, recurring fevers, selling joints, etc. And the diagnosis is just the beginning.....
Ren usually produces his own music but not for this one. Thank you KUJOBEATS for the original soundtrack ua-cam.com/video/yRDxHFYrGmI/v-deo.htmlfeature=shared
The actual original is Bre, Petrunko by Koutev Bulgarian National Ensemble. Kujo used this track which he didn’t have the license to use to make his beat. Then sold it to Ren via BeatStars. Kujo is responsible for a copyright strike taking down Ren’s video for this track. So if you are gonna credit the beat maker how about you credit the original track creators the beat was taken from too and the women’s choir who sang it. How is that fair?! #freesickboi
@@bethstratton3391 Yeah, the post was done prior to me knowing that info and the copyright strike to Ren. Besides didn't Kujo make the beat and used the choir part illegally?
@@NightFogFilms Yes that’s how it was. No problem, just wanted to give credit where credit is due. Not saying Kujo’s beat isn’t great, but the way he’s operating isn’t.
Ren had undiagnosed Lyme's for 10 years. This ate away at his brain and muscle cells to a point that more than 4 years after diagnosis, he still needs treatments. He was never psychotic. He was put on meds that made him feel that way. He is fighting back now and he is a musical genius. He is self taught and is more than likely, as good as he is, because of the 10 years he spent in bed.
Ren himself said that he had stress-induced psychosis for a stretch of 2015, when he was at his sickest. The years of numbing psych drugs (and withdrawal from them) certainly contributed to the depression and despair that laid the groundwork for the psychotic break, but they were less of a direct cause than pain, isolation, medical gaslighting, lost dreams, and fear of dying. Especially fearing dying because doctors aren't listening to you, when you're screaming at the top of your lungs.
I have actually been there. I had 5 major spine surgeries in the mid 90's after a car accident. After the 2nd one, my hands and torso started to go numb. My Dr told me that the only reason for it was psychological and he put me on a mood stabilizer. I stayed on this med for over a year and said nothing more about the symptoms. I was told while they were testing for the following surgery that I had a lesion on my cervical spine. They said it was caused, more than likely, by a virus. It was what caused my hands and torso to go numb. To this day I , still have loss of feeling. It is never easy going through hard-core medical issues and being told that, in part, you are manifesting symptoms that are not real. Like Ren says, "as the people of old, we do as we're told." I have little, if any, respect for modern science and especially, the big named expensive Dr's that practice it. (Living in US) I love the open dialog that Ren's music brings about. ❤️

I recommend blind eyed with Sam thompkins ft the angry car park attendant ( the thumbnail has them against a bright green wall) for something a bit on the lighter side ❤
I think per your intelligent reaction, you may want to skip ahead to one of his recent releases, Troubles. It's a great way to see another bit of the story. There's an official music video and a live acoustic video. Consider doing both in one reaction because you'll get an insight into how Ren is continuously finding ways to express - It's fascinating and impactfull.
I do want to look at Troubles in the near future but was recommended to watch Chapters 1-8 first so I'm looking for the time to get them all in short order.
The key term for the critique of capitalism/the music industry that's he's making is extraction. The wealthy extract the fruits of our labor. Same with music & entertainment industry, also medical/ pharma, extract money for care. Now go on down the line: landlords, subscription streaming services, Amazon prime, insurance, the courts, private equity/wall st, creditors its all about financialization & extracting wealth from people and institutions and redistributing it upwards.
It does help, the challenge is not looking at any of it until it's time to refer to a prior line. I can't read them ahead of time as it likely would change my reaction. So I'm trying not to have to do that.

The more I watch the more I pick up on, so many layers and meanings.
@TheQuietPartPod yep... his lyrics are that good! Most rappers just aren't smart enough to understand most of his work!
It shows too, on their reactions! Lol
Fire reaction. Appreciate your love for our Boi. Renegades unite. 💛
Thanks, I really liked it myself. #FreeSickBoi #SaveSickBoi
Your correct about the misdiagnosis and them taking the route of offering him medicines that didn't help
Good point near the end 16 minutes roughly
To quote Ren
Medical gaslighting is a real thing
It's become such a regular occurrence in the medical field, it's a real problem.
Renegade here. Liked both reactions. I subbed. Enjoy the Ren journey. It will be fun. 😊
Thanks! It should be fun, and if it isn't there is always cake.
It was definitely a situation nobody should go through.
Thank you, sir! Renegades rock!
Ren also produces all of his own beats. He basically does everything but hold the camera.
So I've heard, thanks for watching!
Ren usually produces his own music but not for this one. Thank you KUJOBEATS for the original soundtrack ua-cam.com/video/yRDxHFYrGmI/v-deo.htmlfeature=shared
It's all good, he probably heard it and was like "I need this!"
The actual original is Bre, Petrunko by
Koutev Bulgarian National Ensemble.
Yeah medication to treat different "conditions" that you don't have can have a disastrous impact. I'm just glad he finally got the correct diagnosis.
Great reaction. Always a good idea to go back a little after you stop, just like you do 👍🏼It’s wild how w/ Ren one wants to catch every line as well as digest it. You are going to enjoy the rabbit hole of Ren. 🎶🎤
There is just so much in everything he says, I feel like I'm not doing it justice if I don't consider every part of it.
I hope you make the journey digging into the most talented artist in the world.
I'm working on it, there is a ton to work with.
He had Lyme disease that was undiagnosed for 7-8yrs They treated him for mental health issues it made him worse.
Another great reaction! I so enjoy seeing people experience Ren. Your reactions are so good. Enjoy the roller coaster ride that is Ren! ☮️❤️😎
Thank you, I will!
Thank you mate!
You're welcome!
Wonderful and insightful reaction. Than you
Thank you! All insight has come from the comment sections as I upload these videos. Ren's fanbase is amazing and quite helpful when providing feedback!
wow cool on the subs! REN is amazing talent and each song gets better and better. There are Concept albums which tells stories, Ren's discography is a continuous concept compilation.
Yeah I'm noticing.
I’m really enjoying listening to you as you break down Ren’s songs. This is one of my all time favorite songs of his. The tales next. So looking forward to seeing your reaction.

Wow! That was quick, even before I could get a pinned comment up!
@@TheQuietPartPod 👍👍
Enjoy the ride!
I will!
Congrats on 1k! Excited to see you keep growing!! Love from Florida
Thank you!
I recommend blind eyed with Sam thompkins ft the angry car park attendant ( the thumbnail has them against a bright green wall) for something a bit on the lighter side ❤
I'll add it to the list!
You've gotta watch troubles either the acoustic or the original recording
It's coming soon, I was told I needed to watch his Chapters 1-8 first though.
Oh that is a much deeper conversation than a YT comment's section can provide.
Yo yo yo
underneath your comment, it gives me the option to 'translate to english' lol kathleen 🙃
Hey Fren!
O you are good
Except when I'm not of course
If it helps, you can pull up lyrics to rens songs as some people struggle with his accent or speed he sings or raps
I believe he was looking at both the lyrics and the video. Happy to see a reactor do it justice by double checking with the lyrics.
It does help, the challenge is not looking at any of it until it's time to refer to a prior line. I can't read them ahead of time as it likely would change my reaction. So I'm trying not to have to do that.
@@TheQuietPartPod maybe havecthem up while you listening just an idea xx
Subbed for more Ren ❤
Thanks!
