Saw her in the original Annie Get Your Gun, Call Me Madam and Gypsy(30 Times) no one like her on the musical stage. Movies were too small for her talents....except Mad, Mad, Mad World! Her last performances on a Broadway stage...Merman in a show written for her but she needed a rest, but years later she took on Hello Dolly and she carried it to become the longest run of a musical also her last performance on a Broadway stage. No one can really describe her energy, talent...a brass band coming down the street! Facebook is full of new fans ...Just mention her name and your response may be loud singing of one of the many songs she is remembered for! I was fortunate to see many of her performances and the audiences reaction..both unbelievable!

Absolutely wonderful and unique, but with a voice like a fog horn.
She could warn ships off the rocks at five miles distance.
There has never been another Broadway performer like her, and there never will be!!
13:42 Now I know where Judy Garland got her "Swanee" number from, for "A Star is Born."
Actually, they both got it from Al Jolson, but, of course, they put their own twists on it.
