"A Message To You, Rudy" - The Superskas

- West Midlands based Ska tribute act The Superskas performing the 1967 Rocksteady classic "Rudy, A Message to You" originally performed by Dandy Livingstone and famously covered by The Specials in 1979 as "A Message to You, Rudy". Since then it has been performed by a huge variety of acts including Madness, Amy Winehouse, Pete Doherty, Sublime, Barenaked Ladies, Dead Milkmen and The Mescaleros.
The Superskas are an energetic eight-piece band with over 8 years experience playing live together. Complete with horn section and both male and female vocalists, The Superskas perform authentic covers of ska classics from the last 50 years that are guaranteed to fill the dance-floor.
Dressed from head to toe in original ska & mod gear, the band look as good as they sound. Covering hits from first wave artists such as Toots & the Maytals and Desmond Dekker, through to second wave artists such as The Specials and Madness, The Superskas really are the ultimate tribute to Ska and 2tone.
The Band was founded in 2005 by Andy Heseltine who is a long time afficionado of Ska. He was joined by Ed Davies (Vox and Guitar), Lorraine Stuart (Vox) , Scottie Edge (Bass), Roger Westwood and Ryan Pinson on Kit and Percussion. Ed and Loz were joined on Vocals by Brian Wright, known as BeeDubya and latterly just Dubbs. In 2009, they found a couple of itinerant brass players unconscious at a beer festival and have been trying to get rid of them ever since. Alun David (Trombone) and David Hipkiss (Trumpet) eventually sobered up and realised that being in a Ska band was actually good fun, and insisted on staying. Various eminent local characters guested on occasions and can be seen in the Media gallery if you look closely.

Best version on this classic outside of the Specials
Hell Yes ... rude boy
What's great about this track is they have the tempo dead on, most bands speed it up (a lot easier to play as timing mistakes can be hidden), this is got the time and deft groove... gwan na stars!
Best Rudy. I love this band. Male Singer is fabulous.
And the girl does a great my boy lollipop.
The Female singer is just as good. Both singers are excellent. Really great vocals & it's live. Can't say enough about both of them.
@@MonkeyChamp yes. I agree. She is A1. I just like certain things in jis singing i had to say. But she gr8 too . Ty!
Respect to the working classes..
Amazing version of A message to you, Rudi, almost as Rico was alive.
❤❤❤
Nice dancing bo
A version I haven’t heard! Thanks, UA-cam algorithm.
One more backing vocalist in the verses would have lifted the whole thing up to spot-on. The female backup is strong in the choruses, but plenty of singers have a weak spot in their vocal range, and it just so happened that hers was on display. The guy who chimes in with the chorus could perhaps help her fill it out? Otherwise, super fun, vibey and full of energy, largely owing to the fabulous frontman who was a joy to watch, and exercised solid judgement in keeping the melodic emphases and flourishes tasteful and fresh without disrespecting the original or giving in to self-indulgence.
“Thanks, mysterious internet lady. Now we’ll reassess our entire repertoire in the hope that we can eliminate anything that could fall ever-so short of your lofty expectations.”
I think is a nostalgie for many. Nice music .
I've never heard a version of this song I haven't thoroughly enjoyed. It seems only people with excellent taste know this song and only people with excellent musical talent perform it. A message to Rudy is a timeless gem for everyone.

This doesn't seem to just be a cover of _Rudy, a Message to You_ but more specifically a cover of the Specials' version, which they called _A Message to You Rudy_ . Either way, it was excellent.
The trombone is awesome. Great cover by the singers as well.
Great! Thanks.
Wow!! very tight, and great vocals

This is excellent. I would really like to see this band. They still around?
+Walt Jabsco They are indeed Walt (Love the name btw). I recently filmed their 10th anniversary show in Wolverhampton, it shall be released shortly. They have a show in Wolves in about a week and they're playing in Birmingham in April :)
Brad Edwards Nice one. Its a bit far for me. I'm in West Yorkshire. Let me know if they come up my way. Cheers mate. Stay Rude!
Saw them recently and got my tickets for another gig. They are amazing live.
Thanks for the comment :)
Not bad, but it 's just a copy. The specials did their own thing of the Livingston Song.
Sorry but I rather here The Specials version
Backing vocals are weak and lacklustre.
