- Ascension by Lorcan Ward
A Warhammer 40k Tyranids/Genestealer cult inspired Metalcore song
This song originally started as a Baldurs Gate 2 song about the "Cult of the Unseeing Eye". Then it slowly changed into a song from the POV of a Chaos Preacher on an Imperial World. I felt it wasn't telling as good a story as my specific Chaos legion songs. I stopped working on it for a while until one day the idea of a Genestealer Cult came into my head and all the lyrics just flowed after that.

♫ Lyrics ♫
Gather round and listen to the
Call from far beyond
You've been misled throughout your life
By false prophets lies
Preaching empty words devoid of hope
In plain disguise they shield your eyes
Damning you one and all
But there is truth beyond the stars
In shadow's night there is life
They whisper from the void
That you are blind
With eyes shut you've failed
To see the coming light
But I can show you
Where truth resides
Built on fear, built on lies
All your life ostracised
Blind falsehoods lead astray
And every moral meets decay
Idol corpses withering
Offer naught but slavery
Empty masses, hollow prayers
Souls are forfeit
Through blood and gold
You pay their tolls
False salvation for your soul
And if you fail your children's children
Pay the price, dawn to demise
What they've built is doomed to fall
This false deity will damn us all
Have no fear, hear no lies
Worry not for their reprise
Where you were once led astray
Your soul can still be saved
This is truth, this is sight
I bring the only guiding light
Cast of the mantle of the blind
For your ascension is this night
Upon the altar of divine
Stand the gods of blood and time
Witness the birth and know true sight
Behold the all seeing eye
Without fear, without lies
We stand for reason against the blind
Once led astray our souls have now been saved
Without fear, without lies
This is the only guiding light
Ascension from the skies
Embrace the all seeing eye

I adore how every single point the cult/genestealers are raising about the Imperium are 100% correct, its just that the alternative they offer is being soup
In short I love this song
It was a lot of fun to really tear down the Imperium, pointing out the stagnation, moral bankruptcy and inevitable decline of the empire. In the end he isn't offering anything better but he's able to prey upon them with the religious ideals of salvation.
Imagine this playing 24/7 in the neural network of the Tyranids
If this was the case then being infected by a genestealer might not be so bad...
Yes we definitely enjoy this because all we need is more- a tyranid probably
Praise the Star Children, Praise the Four-Armed Emperor
....the singer is Aether Realm's singer, praise be even more!
Pretty sure he’s got three arms, I saw it in play.
@@High-LordHarza Vincent did an amazing job as always. Especially the layered vocals giving it a group vibe.
When the big bugs make more sense than the emperor and chaos…you should probably leave that planet
Embrace the welcoming maw of the Great Devourer.
Well one way or the other you will leave the planet. One as a fleeing refugee, the other as soup.
Reject becoming corpse-starch, embrace being bug feed!
Ledgend 💪🏻
Grab your Heavy Flamers and your pants, the Jeans Stealers are here!
I love everything in this song, you always pleasantly surprise us. 🤘
I love everything about this, last thing I'd expect for a warhammer song is one about the Genestealers
Thanks! It wasn't planned at all but once I got the idea the whole song really came together. I collected Genestealers/tyranids back in the 90s so I had to pay them tribute someday.
Never thought much of the Tyranids. Thought they are just bugs that need to be put down before chaos, due to how dangerous they are. Now I see why some could join such cults. If your life is bleak and you don't want to be a part of crumbling empire, doing so is one of very few options. I still put faith in the Empire, but I understand people who don't have that in them anymore.
PS: If I had a chance, I would totally join the Nurgle cult, though😆
Joining Genestealers cults is not free-will choice. First members are just mind-controlled and fertilized by Genestealer (future Patriarch of the cult). Others are just mutants and human-Tyranid hybrids, that was born from this infected people.
They are not fully human, and even in rules Genestealer Cults is in “Xenos” category.
You know this is a pretty cool genestealer cult song. And it also explores the tyranids well by rarely even mentioning them in a offhanded sentence or two. Which sumarizes most tyranid lore perfectly since they usually just come in and then die.
Man. The zerg really are just the better tyranids.
Thanks! I wanted to allude to a cosmic presence beyond known space, as the song goes on it escalates to them being literal Gods, getting closer and closer.
Xenos at long last. As it should be!
You have to be one of the most versatile voiced metal musicians I've heard in a while, from the battle hymn in cadence to the night lords song in straight black metal style, I love your shit bro, keep goin hard 🔥🔥🔥
Thanks! I'm a huge fan of all kinds of music, not just metal so this was a great opportunity to explore different genres while all having a central theme.
💯
A real banger!! Waiting on the Krieg song
Krieg song is slowly coming together. I really wanted to write lyrics that I haven't done before. It might be my favourite song I've wrote.
@@LorcanWard why you teasing 😄💚
The instrumental at 2:40 is SICK!
Thanks! I'd say that's my main style. Metalcore meets melodic death metal. Gallop riffs, harmonies, big 80s solo.
Praise the emperor
Damn, basically a revolution song, so good
You know it's good because I'm not into gsc but I dig this. I like when you do these rhythm parts a lot. 2:18 mark is a favorite. Hope to see that style with more loyal chapters. The solo ripped hard.
Usually the appearance of the Genestealers is the announcement that Tyranids are arriving soon.
Confirmed the next song is about the Space Bugs/s
I wish I had a full Tyranid song ready now. I’ve toyed around with some ideas but I really want to grasp the cuthulu horror they are. I’ve been reading a lot of HP lovecraft lately so that is getting some ideas flowing for cosmic horror lyrics.
Didn't expect a Tyranid song, just what they would want.
Awesome job
Everyone in my hab block loves this so much the invites to Arbites to join in..
that was badass! any chance you could do one on the elysian drop troopers?
Thanks! I'm working on a whole Astra Militarum album.
it was heavy and epic!
2:18
This scene with the solo goes so hard.
Since finding and listening to blood must flow i am in love with this brothers music truly encapsulates the factions he makes songs!! Not a single bad song but i yhink this is my favorite one to date right up there tied with the scythe of the reaper!!! The tyran8dd sre one of my favorite factions!! BUGS BUGS BUGS!!!
This was fkn awesome 🤘🏼😎🤘🏼 got me rocking out 🎸 luv ur music 🎶
I know the space marines are the big ticket items but I adore your Xenos songs: there's such good lyricism and creativity here! I'd love to see you tackle either of the Eldar factions, maybe incorporating some folk elements to show off their ancient Faerie vibes.
Thanks! While the xenos aren’t as fleshed out as the Imperium factions they do offer many unique ideas that I love diving into. I’ve two Eldar songs nearly written. They couldn’t be any more different so I’ll have to release them one after the other.
Bro just made wierd looking bald guy-bugs cool
Another epic song!! 🎉🎉🎉 Love it
reminds me of aetherrealm
Vincent from Aether Realm did the vocals for this one. One of my favourite vocalists so it was great to work with him.
Will you collab with other Warhammer musicians?
Yes! I didn't know how many artists were making Warhammer inspired music so it was cool to hear and discover like minded people. I have a few things in the works but it might be a while in the future.
Death Watch when???
Working on it.
In a galaxy of endless suffering, the story of an average Genestealer Cult is the most heartbreaking. It's essentially a communist uprising with added gribbly monsters - and the hopes of the rebels are dashed in the most horrific fashion. Great music, incidentally.
Тираниды стремятся объединить всех. Однажды им это почти удалось, но началась холодная война :(
Were you inspired by Stringstorm’s song by chance?
@@akumaking1 No, I didn’t even know Stringstorm had a Tyranid sing. Musically this was inspired by In Flames, Unearth, All that Remains, Trivium etc and the lyrics were originally about Baldurs Gate 2(Cult of the Unseeing Eye), it changed into a chaos song for a short while before it became a Genestealer Cult song. There’s some HP Lovecraft influence in there too, I had just finished reading At the mountains of madness. Mostly just influenced by religious imagery, denouncing the imperium, the preacher inciting rebellion, these things just come in bursts of inspiration so it can be hard to pinpoint where.
@@LorcanWard well, did you watched Stringstorm music video about the bugs?
It's so nice to hear about the warhammer without any heresy about the female astartes from the games workshop. Keep up the good work!
If this is not a secret of the Inquisition, then what will the next song be about?
Yeah it's unfortunate that the fan base is on fire lately. No matter which side you are on it's sad to see a community getting torn apart attacking each other. All I'll say is the next song is not a Warhammer song. Very excited to release it.
@@LorcanWard The community is not torn apart, it cosplays Warhammer himself)
