But an even better example; one of the original singers from the black eyed peas was a black woman...(something i didn't even know about black eye peas)
she didn't want to conform when the A&R's told her and the rest of the black eye peas to basically do what was told of Baby Goth (Do this, Do that, sound more like this act more like that etc...)

Now i worked in the music industry for a little under two years... And you basically see the pattern after working a while...artists eventually get shelved if they don't do what the A&R's tell them to do...some A&R's are awesome beings, and some are totally evil. But they all have to listen to the execs at the end of the day, and if they decide to shelf you they will.
There are a few artists in history that actually attained enough power to screw off the industry because they knew that they had leverage (It's like being Robert Downy JR, and saying you won't play Tony Stark unless they follow your rules not the studio's.)
Not a lot of newer artists have that kind of leverage against the labels. Hell even most of the big artists don't have that leverage...Eminem is like one of the few that do.
