Wow! You can literally see where the wind shifted, you can see one part in your video where there were about five houses that were untouched and then full blocks gone. Thank you to the reporters who brought you through your neighborhood. And thank you to all the first responders for working so hard on very little to no sleep trying to put the fires out. I'm so sorry for the loss of your friend. Oh my God, God was on your side.
I'm glad you have your stuff and I'm glad you recognize it as junk. It's life changing when you lose things or get a second chance and realize what is truly meaningful. As horrific as it is, it's not as bad as I thought it would be. I moved away from LA but it was good to still see things that are recognizable after such a fire. It's good to see a lot of businesses are still there so some people will still have income and they aren't completely destroyed.
SO true. We were under fire watch all day today and I really started looking around at what we have, what we could fit in the cars, and then re-evaluating, but looking at everything from the perspective of what we truly would NEED, and then what I wouldn't want us to lose. It's eye-opening. Just realizing how much you have that you don't really NEED.
Was homeless for most of 2024, can relate to the realization that most material items are “junk” in the bigger picture. Losing everything has also taught me that life isn’t so black and white, and I don’t have to have a rigid “this or that” mindset. Life truly can be about this AND that. It just narrowed my focus to what’s truly important for me, not defined by anyone else. That’s the palpable change I’ve felt. That going forward I’ll use my money on things that actually make me happy vs on things that make me LOOk happy to others. That could still be a fancy high-end car or other things some might perceive as meaningless “junk.” As long as it makes me happy and feel alive/present, that’s what matters.
We just went through the disaster in western NC and know how you feel. Our home was spared but the survival guilt is real. Home isn’t just the structure, it’s the community. Good luck and be kind to yourself. It takes time.
Thank you to all the fire fighters for not just in CA, but those who are coming out of state to help put out these fires. Including mexico. My heart and thoughts and prayers go out to everyone who has lost everything and lost a loved one.
I was crying right along with you Katie 💕💕💕. Your "Home is Where the Vlog Is" helped see me through the Pandemic more than you know and to see your place virtually untouched is just beyond words.... Peace and love to you both 💕💕🙅♀️
I’ve been watching in total horror and I cannot imagine the absolute devastation so many people must be going through. So Glad you’re both safe and well and miraculously your home survived. Take care and keep strong
@@loririos341 right there with you. We Californians are strong. We've been through so many natural disasters. We can persevere. It's just way harder this time because we've never lived through something like this. Multiple fires at once, a few that are massive, is not something anyone can prepare for. My mother's house almost got burned down by the Eaton fire. Thankfully it survived, though it's in rough shape from a metric ton of ash and debris from the strong winds.
I used to live in Malibu up Decker Canyon Road. We were evacuated during the 93 Topanga fires. So I know the anxiety you both felt returning to your home after such devastation.

@@jonludwig ...we had one when I was 15. People don't realize how devastating a fire is. I have no pictures of my great grandmother anymore .She died before I was born. We also lost all of our childhood photos. These were irreplaceable. Those are the kind of things that hurt the most.
Journalists are not as many as the residents. What a mess the emergency vehicles would have to deal with if residents were allowed to clog the roads. At least they are allowed to walk or scooter in.
My take on it is that it’s keeping potential looters out. Hard to take out a bunch of stuff that isn’t yours when you don’t have a vehicle. Not sure if true, but have heard reports of people driving around casing neighbourhoods and coming back later to loot. Once again, a few bad apples ruin it, and get access by car revoked, for everyone. A lot easier for law enforcement to actually enforce the law with rules like this. Not so insane when looked at from that perspective.
that home beside you that had the hose through it and had damage might have been broken through by fire fighters in order to access back behind you to supress and contain and prevent spread of fire. i saw videos where homes had to be smashed through to access spaces where trucks and choppers weren't going

Everything we have can be gone in a second. It’s a reminder to everyone to think what’s the most important in this life. Count your blessings. I don’t know how people can live in such areas where natural disaster happens so often.
Interesting…when they were driving along filming the burned out homes facing the ocean and we could see their amazing view, I was thinking “I can totally understand why people would want to live there.” Really interesting to watch some of the discussions around building fire resistant structures in places prone to wildfires. Really helps to dispel a ton of the conspiracy theories around why some homes survived and others did not. And how it’s not only possible to build fire resistant structures but to see the ones that were consciously built that way and survived this fire. To learn from old construction methods used in the past to make safer buildings going forward.
@@PeaceMeBish wind played a huge role in what buildings survived. The winds shifted many times during those first couple of days. Fires are unpredictable. People have been spreading misinformation about fire proof homes here. We can't do that because fire proof materials that exist right now aren't earthquake proof. Bricks and stone shatter during an earthquake. They're definitely fire proof, but we'd die from the crumbling rubble. We'd still be left without a home. 🤷
There is a family in CA earthquake are, that lost everything in a fire. They rebuilt using bailstraw blocks covered in stucco and a metal roof. Outside the house looked like the Flintstones homes without straight edges, the interior was fantastic with tall ceilings and lots of windows with metal trim like the roof. Anyway, the straw and stucco is flexible to earth movement and since the stucco covers the straw, fireproof.

As your approaching everything and you're speaking on how you're so overwhelmed and can't believe the devastation , it brought everything back. As a bus driver on Maui when I had to go into Lahaina the day after the fires part of a rescue convoy to bring residence and Tourist out of the west side of the island. I just remember the smell, the heat & the overwhelming heaviness. watching this made me shake and cry. I know exactly how you're feeling. Send support wrapped in Aloha 🫂
So sad to see the destruction of our beautiful PCH in Malibu. You would never think your beach front property would burn down. Just insane to think about. God bless you all.
I'm experiencing survivors guilt, as well. My mother's house was spared when the Eaton fire was ravaging the foothills. It came so close to burning it down. It's the house i grew up in. Her grandfather and father built that house in the 1940s. It's practically historic. My mother is planning on passing it diwn to my sister and me when she passes away. For a week, i thought that would no longer be in the cards. I sobbed with you as you gelt the pangs of grief, empathy, and guilt. Never, ever lose your empathy. This country is experiencing a severe lack of it. Your compassion towards the people in your neighborhood is a good thing. That level of empathy will be needed as LA attempts to rebuild. ❤️ On a lighter note, i don't even wanna know how much you guys have to pay in rent each month for that apartment. 😅 It's already expensive af living in Arcadia. Being right on the beach has got to cost a jaw dropping amount. :p
You guys are so lucky, so very blessed, but it may still be a long road when it comes to what is going to happen with the rest of your building. I'm so glad you got to go in there and grab things that are meaningful while you could. Your footage will be so valuable to your neighbors wanting to see what is going on. I remember watching when you had your very sick baby puppy there with you in that house, but then you moved back to be closer to family in OC. Were you back living in Malibu now when all this happened? I remember the crazy expensive little grocery store with beautiful take and go salads. That place is probably all gone now. Xoxo
My heart goes out to you both. I can’t imagine how hard this is. Your Malibu home is what helped me get through the pandemic with you two. Sending big hugs from Peoria az
It looked like a big cliff right behind your building and others adjacent that were saved. The cliff probably shielded the buildings from the ember storm. The wind blown embers shot out toward the ocean and didn't land on flammable material on your buildings.
I had to pause when you entered your place. Katie I'm crying with you. I can't imagine all the emotions you are feeling right now. The fire was literally on your doorstep. Prayers to you both. Thank you for all that silent footage. Although difficult to watch, I'm glad you shared with us.
California is beautiful, but I just don’t think I could stand living in homes built that close. And the homes that are built on the beach block the beautiful view! Hope they rebuild with more fire resistant materials. Prayers to all affected.
It makes a different if you build with concrete or with wood. There are a lot burning material trees bushes fences and house by house to near to the neighbours.I think in the next phase to clear the propertys repair the gas electricity and water after that you can plan a new home there with more concrete glass fences or WPC in wood grain. You need to build fire prepare in the future.Nice ride with you.
It was a loss for everyone because even though some homes were saved The entire communities still needs to be rebuilt so going back right now. It’s probably not an option for anyone.
The building you live in was badly burn't, will the entire building be demolished? We have really bad bushfires here in Australia and only a block away everyone lost their homes. I stayed to fill the gutters with water to help against embers. The smell is terrible and takes along time to go away.
Amazing your home is there! You must be so relieved! Is it made of concrete and the neighbors wasn’t? Did u have a smartmeter. We’re there trees at ur place or shrubs all around?
Just tragic for the owners and community! I think anyone looking in would want to know why the houses which were destroyed were allowed, in a potential fire prone area, to be built from combustible materials such as large amounts of wood ! Building out of solid concrete seems the only sensible approach. Even a once in 30 years risk shouldn’t be using wood cladding and felt the roofs - right ? Thanks so much for documenting this disaster! Your footage will be interesting to generations in the future! The scale of each house lost on each family involved is truly astounding!
There is still active danger of exposure to hazardous waste from burnt and melted plastics and chemicals. Inhalation hazard being the #1 concern but not the only one
I was crying seeing all the fire damage. I feel for you guys for the loss of your community. I feel your pain and sending prayers to everyone who has been affected.

I'm in WNC also and our Condo was spared...I've felt survivors guilt but we can help with our prayer's and our pockets...A little adds up...
My heart goes out to everyone who has lost so much ❤. We Californians have seen, and been through, more than our fair share of devastation, but we're a tough bunch. I wouldn't live anywhere else. Peace and love to you both 💕💕🙅♀️
Thanks you have said everything right❤
Right! Incredible video. Probably the best up close video I've seen.
@@laurieleonard8209 ❤
I’ve been watching in total horror and I cannot imagine the absolute devastation so many people must be going through. So
Glad you’re both safe and well and miraculously your home survived.
I'm sorry for what you are going thru. I'm from the mountains of North Carolina where we had Helene go thru and we are still considered a disaster area, and I assume that will be for a long time to come yet. I feel your pain and we send strength, love and patience your way. So devastating to see and stirs up memories for us too. Stay strong!
@@carriegarrisonvos4433 at least your not Florida, we get hurricanes every summer and we are still recovering from hurricane ian and my camper also just burnt down and I’m in FL.
@itsMEliv1 No not FL but we had Helene also and we are still devastated up here too. It was a 1 in 1000 yr flood for us. The devastation was biblical.
God bless you guys, it's a miracle that your house survived the fire, my heart goes out to you guys and to those who lost their homes, be safe and God bless you
My parents lost everything but the clothes on their backs in a house fire 15 years ago. This brings back so many terrible memories. My heart goes out to everyone affected.
@@jonludwig ...we had one when I was 15. People don't realize how devastating a fire is. I have no pictures of my great grandmother anymore .She died before I was born. We also lost all of our childhood photos. These were irreplaceable. Those are the kind of things that hurt the most.
Absolutely insane that “Journalists” have vehicle access but residents do not.
Sorry for neighbors/friends, and community losses, which effect you deeply. There may be opportunities ahead to gather and talk through things. Hope by 2030 there will have been great restoration. It happens starting with good people like you wanting, and working for new happy memories for all. Godspeed!
I have no words. I don’t even know what to comment. I’m so glad your place survived. I hope they don’t have to tear down your building. Praying for all of your neighbors. I’m so sorry. 💔
watchin yt days, just num. use to work in palisades at riviera & brentwood c.c. years ago. Can't find lot a words. thanks for vid brother an sister.

So, so sorry for what you are going through with the fire. I can only imagine. Prayers up for you guys and for those who lost their loved ones, homes, and community. 🙏🏼
Wow God bless you guys ❤ what a miracle you received. Praying for everyone who lost their homes .
You definitely need to make a beautiful art piece out of all of the remnants you found. Something like a phoenix, showing good things will come from the tragedy. The strength everyone will have to get through this will be overwhelming, I can already tell. Thoughts and prayers to everyone affected. ❤❤❤
I can’t believe how lucky you are. I heard you talking about how bad it made you feel about some of the things you have surviving. Maybe some things can be sold or shared with people who lost everything. It may make you feel better and be a blessing to someone else. Thank you for sharing this video. Bless you.
I am so glad your home is still standing. Fabulous video, thank you for sharing. Be safe🙂
Spencer, It's Judi F, Audio. I am so so sorry this happened to you and our beautiful city. Glad your place survived. You have always been a super cool guy. If you need anything please let me know. I am safe in the Valley. Even if you two just want to a place to chill out and have a home cooked meal, you are welcome here.
So sad and beyond words to describe. Glad you made it out and your place survived. It's ok to cry to let out all the emotions you are feeling.
Oh my goodness Katie and Spence! I’m crying w you. My heart is breaking for you and all the people that have lost so much. I have no words. No words. My continued prayers are still coming. Keep going. May god continue to give protection and comfort. ❤️❤️❤️ love you friends.❤️❤️❤️
So sad! My heart goes out to all involved.
Wow! Love the heart you found on the beach.
You mentioned the molten metal. I worked in a couple of foundries. Where we made cast iron blocks, the liquid metal was at 2600 degrees.
Thank you for sharing this. Prayers to all for their loss. Now hopefully all can be rebuilt even better!
I'm so happy for you that your home was spared. Sending my most heartfelt condolences to all effected. May the healing start soon.
Thank you for taking us on the tour of your precious home n beach; I know it was difficult n very emotional!
I'm deeply sorry for your loss, may Randy Rest In Peace. It's hits different when you see the images on the news compared to watching them on here. My heart aches for all the losses and devastation taking place and now we have to deal with looters and more fires. May God bless and protect each and every one of you.
The news would never show these images because too many people will question what they clearly see that DO NOT MAKE ANY SENSE!
Here I sit in Maine watching this. It is truly heartbreaking and I am so very sorry for all of you. If you lost everything you must be so tremendously sad, but then the others that had their homes saved feel such guilt. Tough times. I’m here in my apartment, 73 years old, my much loved husband is dying of cancer . We are so sad for you and for us!!!!❤❤❤
How about making Malibu a public park you can go to and eat, maybe a few food trucks. Maybe a few camping sites. Why they gotta Hog all the Beach?
Malibu is a city. Maybe do 5 sec of research.
@@livelearn3000 what an idiotic comment to make while witnessing devastation and loss of life from your phone/ computer.
It's amazing to see what survived and what didn't.
Do y'all have a Smart Meters on your house?...Sending prayer's to everyone from Western NC
I'm wondering the same exact thing!
I'm a grown ass man standing in my kitchen watching this and I can't Stop crying at the devastation 🙏🙏🙏
@@docdave9487 Its because you have compassion, empathy & a Soul. I live in LA...I feel the same.
i'm just num all over, use to work at riviera and brentwood c.c.. in palisades.
You'll morn this loss for sometime...am a survivor with little damage of North Carolina and Tennessee floods. From the Ocean to the mountains..loss of this kind is hard to take in. But after months and knowing it will be years to recover...it's a process we endure. May you find peace in your experience and know your heavenly Father has a purpose. ❤️✝️
My friends live off kanan, it's so good to see it looks okay. I've been so worried. I know they're okay, but still, this helps! I am praying 🙏 for this to end and safety for all. I'm so sorry about this! Thank you for sharing. Remember Maui, North Carolina, Florida, and California. I pray you'll build and be fully restored.
Woww, so wild that your place held up well and others did not - cannot imagine your relief. You def had angels looking out for you 😇😇😇
How u afford oceanfront home if you’re not rich?
So sad to see the destruction of our beautiful PCH in Malibu. You would never think your beach front property would burn down. Just insane to think about. God bless you all.
Thanks for sharing.please stay safe ❤
You are truely blessed. be safe,
Thank You for sharing your story. God Bless
On a lighter note, i don't even wanna know how much you guys have to pay in rent each month for that apartment.
Praying for all neighbors! But praise the Lord that your place is good.
I’ve experienced the devastation of fire firsthand. Even the homes/buildings still standing, have extensive smoke & water damage.
Wow glad your stuff is safe but the building looks like it needs a safety experience. Hope the recovery effort goes quickly.
I had to pause when you entered your place. Katie I'm crying with you. I can't imagine all the emotions you are feeling right now. The fire was literally on your doorstep. Prayers to you both. Thank you for all that silent footage. Although difficult to watch, I'm glad you shared with us.
So heartbreaking for all of LA. God bless you. 🙏🙏❤
California is beautiful, but I just don’t think I could stand living in homes built that close. And the homes that are built on the beach block the beautiful view! Hope they rebuild with more fire resistant materials. Prayers to all affected.
Sending prayers for all in California fires and those in the hurricane area on the east coast. Thank you for showing this.
We thank the Lord for you 🙏
It makes a different if you build with concrete or with wood.
I thought you were renting this condo in Malibu?
Did we state otherwise?
God bless you. This was a miracle
It was a loss for everyone because even though some homes were saved The entire communities still needs to be rebuilt so going back right now. It’s probably not an option for anyone.
Thank you for sharing all of this footage. I haven't been through there, yet.
😢So sorry ya’ll are going through this!!!
It’s absolutely heartbreaking to see all the devastation!!!
While at church this morning, our congregation prayed for you all 🙏, from north Idaho ❤.
Thats so sad. My thoughts and prayers 🙏 are going out to everyone in California ! My heart breaks 😭💔😭💔😭💔😭💔😭💔😭💔😭💔😭💔😭💔😭💔😭💔😭💔😭💔😭💔😭💔💔😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 for everybody
I don’t wanna see homes before the owners have gotten to.
I’m so happy your home did survive. Please be happy. So much better than it not !
So sorry to hear about and see everyone’s misfortune. What exit did you take off the 405 again to get to pch and Malibu?
There is still active danger of exposure to hazardous waste from burnt and melted plastics and chemicals. Inhalation hazard being the #1 concern but not the only one
Less than $10k for sprinkler system and underground water catchment or hose to pump sea water for homes along the coast.
As a dutch person can only say goosebumps everywhere we don't see this kind of destruction in the netherlands makes me really sad to watch this
❤ just sooooooosad. Beyond words

So why did they let the French journalists in but homeowners cant even go in unless walking??? And who has a scooter in their back pocket to go for miles???? Help me understand that.
None of it makes sense
