Ana, I came across your video while reflecting on the recent loss of my dear uncle and this book brought me back to when I was 14 when first read it. After seeing your video I decided to get a couple of copies of this book and give it to my nieces at Thanksgiving in hopes that they too find in its words of wisdom that internal peace i once found in it and agree with you it's a book of life to reference and help us reflect thought out our lives
I first read The Prophet a year and a half ago on a drunken night. I cried, like ugly cried, because of how beautiful that book was after every part. The Prophet changed my perspective on many things and arguably my life. Love this book so much.
“Accept the seasons of your heart, even as you have always accepted the seasons that pass over your fields. And you would watch with serenity through the winters of your grief.”
"It is the bitter potion by which the physician within you heals your sick self. Therefore trust the physician, and drink his remedy in silence and tranquillity" ❤
"For love is sufficient unto love. When you love you should not say, “God is in my heart,” but rather, “I am in the heart of God.” And think not you can direct the course of love, for love, if it finds you worthy, directs your course. Love has no other desire but to fulfill itself."
Excellent review. I am now 61 and when I read it first time it was in my college days. This book has tremendous effect on my life .copy of this book is still with me. I enjoyed the company of different thoughts of Khalil Gibran throughout my life. Thanks for this great review. I am very happy to see that young generation like you ,are reading such books. Your expressions itself are indicatig, to what extent u are affected by this book. These are the thoughts worth to carry ,throughout our life. Great. Thanks again for your review. From India,
I am Philippe , A French unconditionned deeper lover of Khalil Gibran - I feel inner intensively each of the sentences & words from " Le Prophete " - I would enjoy reading them again & again each text , what I would enjoy & share them with all other lovers from any country , that I feel we belong together to the same brotherhood
Right? There is something about the way he writes that is so profound and immortalized that no matter which language it's translated to, the impact never wavers and the reader reads it again and again... and again.
The book had a profound impact on my life at age 21. When visiting a friend I found it on her book shelf. I have quoted it to my therapy patients many times. Also I have heard it shared in many weddings. Thank you for sharing your own insights from it.
I just read it for the first time and cannot praise the book highly enough! I especially loved the lessons about work, love and the relationship between joy and sorrow. Soooo beautiful 😍
Dear Ana, much appreciated the timely reminder of the interdependence of joy and sorrow, as it’s right now something I can benefit by reflecting upon. And as I face farewelling work and facing uncertain health from a degenerative condition, so many parts of the chapters spring to mind , yet the lifelong one , for me is about giving and receiving. Kahlil’s poetic wording invites and challenges me to remain open to both, as yonder field does. I have lived a life around service to others and still there are daily challenges and changes now to what I can manage, and this in turn can invoke fear control and a lack of ‘flow’. So Ana, as I meandered aroundUA-cam, finding your generous post, I thank you for your gift and receive wisdom shared. In peace, bruce
Truly appreciate your share, Bruce ❤️ I recently read the book “Bittersweet” by Susan Cain which explores the lifelong relationship between joy and sorrow. You may want to give it a try 🙂
Great review Ana! Loved the way you have cited several passages from the book. One of my all time favourites. Looking forward to seeing more of your videos.
I have actually read The Prophet about three times. I am currently leading a book reading / discussion group. Each of those readings reading have provided insight and a shift in thinking about one of his topics. One of my favorites is on clothes. "And though you seek in garments the freedom of privacy you may find in them a harness and a chain." I see this as the burden of vanity especially when we purchase more clothing than we need and are always trying to keep on top of fashions & trends. Next is the line that goes, "Forget not that modesty is for a shield against the eye of the unclean." Many a girl has been blamed that she was attacked because she was not dressed modestly. That is a sad excuse of the perpetrator who is unable to control himself. And lastly, "Would that you could meet the sun and the wind with more of your skin and less of your raiment, For the breath of life is in the sunlight and the hand of life is in the wind." There is nothing better than the feeling of sun and wind on your skin and in your face.
Awww...This was great. My middle name is actually Gibran, after my father's favorite author. My relationship with my father is a little rocky, so for the longest time I never inquired much into the meaning of my middle name, nor did I know how to pronounce it haha. When I graduated highschool he gave me this book, but at the time I never took it seriously. I held onto the book the whole time and your video just sparked my interest in it again. Thank you! It's beautiful.
@@AnaJuma Thank you! I can tell you're very passionate about this book and it was satisfying to watch you share your thoughts on it. Your content is very good and thoughtful, and I look forward to watching more of it :) I also enjoy journaling and spirituality!
Thank you Ana. Your perception of this gem is beautiful and unique. May it inspire many, to discover their own personal views, while walking through the gates that Khalil Gibran opened.

there is a quotation about him which is just accurate and proper based what I've read from him; He says, "Half of what I say is meaningless, but I say it so that the other half may reach you."
I have been contemplating whether to read this book after a friend strongly recommended it to me. Ana, this review of it was excellent - profound messages from Gibran explained by you in a clear and in an easy to understand way at a nice pace. Thank you for making this video!
Hi Ana, happy to see this post! It is great pleasure to read Gibran's works. Hope you have read his other works too.. and you reminded of the 'Selma' in his book 'The broken wings' .. also I had a chance to hold, touch and feel letters exchanged between him and Mary Haskell. An outstanding book is this. I love the part which explain about beauty And a poet said, Speak to us of Beauty. And he answered: Where shall you seek beauty, and how shall you find her unless she herself be your way and your guide? And how shall you speak of her except she be the weaver of your speech? The aggrieved and the injured say, “Beauty is kind and gentle. Like a young mother half-shy of her own glory she walks among us.” And the passionate say, “Nay, beauty is a thing of might and dread. Like the tempest she shakes the earth beneath us and the sky above us.” The tired and the weary say, “Beauty is of soft whisperings. She speaks in our spirit. Her voice yields to our silences like a faint light that quivers in fear of the shadow.” But the restless say, “We have heard her shouting among the mountains, And with her cries came the sound of hoofs, and the beating of wings and the roaring of lions.” At night the watchmen of the city say, “Beauty shall rise with the dawn from the east.” And at noontide the toilers and the way- farers say, “We have seen her leaning over the earth from the windows of the sunset.” In winter say the snow-bound, “She shall come with the spring leaping upon the hills.” And in the summer heat the reapers say, “We have seen her dancing with the autumn leaves, and we saw a drift of snow in her hair.” All these things have you said of beauty, Yet in truth you spoke not of her but of needs unsatisfied, And beauty is not a need but an ecstasy. It is not a mouth thirsting nor an empty hand stretched forth, But rather a heart enflamed and a soul en- chanted. It is not the image you would see nor the song you would hear, But rather an image you see though you close your eyes and a song you hear though you shut your ears. It is not the sap within the furrowed bark, nor a wing attached to a claw, But rather a garden for ever in bloom and a flock of angels for ever in flight. People of Orphalese, beauty is life when life unveils her holy face. But you are life and you are the veil. Beauty is eternity gazing at itself in a mir- ror.
