  • Mining laws in the U.S. have remained unchanged for 150+ years - here’s how those laws should be updated to keep the environment and people safe.

Since the General Mining Law of 1872 was established, mining practices have been prioritized above all other public land use, including caring for the environment and protecting Indigenous lands. But if we want to transition away from fossil fuels and into a green future, we cannot be mining the same way we did during the second Industrial Revolution. That's why we need to update the laws.
According to environmental org Earthjustice, such reform must include tribal consultation, environmental protections, fair taxpayer compensation, inspections, and the establishment of an abandoned mine fund.

We need to be vocal about supporting this before it’s too late!

Excuse me. john tyndall first wrote about the green house effect in 1850. So it was known about 150 years ago

Because Politics/Politicians are too removed from current science.

I regret to inform you that the indigenous tribes lost their land when they failed to defend it. That sounds harsh, but that is how indigenous tribes operated when Europeans first came to America. Really, that’s how every current country has came into existence. People glorify the American revolution when we fought to break away from Britain. If we lost, we would be part of England and no one would really care by now.
