With a cabin in the woods, you’re always racing against something; winter, rain, bees, rodents. But your chill attitude and just enjoying the process is the beauty of building a cabin. ❤❤❤
I'm not a builder. Neither are you. But you build kick ass cabins anyway, and that's something to be admired. I found you through the first cabin build and it's been a treat following along. Your grit is an inspiration and the videos are so much better for showing the reality of learning on the job.
Don't fret about that commenter! He obviously has never done what your doing. It's just Sheri and I building our cabin. I 100% understand how hard it is to get tons finished in one day. We don't have crews of construction experts working with us!! Your doing awesome! Keep it up!!
The way bushradical installs wood stoves is with a horizontal pass through in the wall. You could maybe do an angled 45 degree pass through of the double walled insulated pipe instead of 90 if the flat stovepipe is a concern. Especially if you aren’t daily using it for years on end i feel like it’d probably hold up. I wouldn’t want to mess with the integrity of roof.
For what it’s worth I agree with this also🥴🤣 There’s not much floor area anyway and to put a stove in the center would definitely take up usable space, all around it. My vote is corner under loft👍👏
I always say wall exit, not only to avoid creating a leak in your roof but also you can have an outside clean out at the bottom so you never have to get on that roof again!
Graham, congratulations on finally installing the large windows. They look great. I believe that the center of the cabin would be best for the stove. Keep up the good work. If you keep building cabins, I believe you can be a full time Utuber. Happy holidays.
Never thought about how little you get accomplished in an episode, I watch you for the entertainment value, and I mean that as a compliment. Thank you. Now, back to the video.👍
Absolutely love your videos. I love how you ALWAYS make a different intro. For the next time you build a cabin.... Find some one that can draw up plans. There is a difference between real world, and paper world, but they will help you stay on task, and prioritize. Also, priority is to get the building sealed up ASAP. Keep them critters, and mother nature out. Can't wait to see this one through to the end, and what comes next.. ♥️
Don’t worry about negative comments. If you are having fun and you are being “YOU” that is all that matters‼️. I love your goofiness and your self-deprecation, I love that you are trying your best, and (in the end) who gives a shit if the windows fit perfectly, the trim is off a bit, or where the wood stove is placed. It’s all about the memories you make ‼️‼️‼️. Dave
Great video brother! I am looking forward to seeing a “deep-cleaning the inside” video now that you have dried it in! I suggest you thoroughly saturate all those mushroom stashes first with some vinegar and let that dry out. Use a mask and gloves, shovel all you can into paper grocery bags then repeat vinegar scrub with paper towels. Staple the paper bags closed at the end and BURN THEM 😂 you are going to feel SOOOOO GOOD working in there once its all been sanitized.. especially so you can cook/bring family and even start overnighting there. +1 vote for the stove in the middle! Heat will radiate easier and make the whole space more comfortable I think.
Holy Woodness Goodness baby!!! It looks fantastic and now closed off from Mother Nature! It will be epic when it is done. Can’t wait. Nothing like an episode about black caulk 😂. Keep getting after it big G.
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 😎 Windows look Beautiful on the Cathedral Cabin! Seems like 204K people don’t care how much you accomplish each video, we just keep coming back for more. 😉 My thought for window trim would be one continuous horizontal trim piece across the top of each 2 window pairs and adjust the angles to match perfectly. But, then you would have to go back and do some cutting. Merry Christmas to you and your family! 🎄❄️☃️
Put a wood cook stove by the door space it from the wall and stick the chimney out the side and up. If you add the benefit of a cook stove your family will always be warm and fed. Happy new year
My wood stove vent pipe goes thru a side wall and out and up an exterior back wall, the stove has been fantastic, installed by a professional, never had an issue with venting etc., go for it.
Put the wood stove in the middle, it could serve as a cooking source and heat source in a central location. For your windows, cut a chamfer strip to put on top of your bottom window trim, that should help with water run off.
Loved your intro. Once again you made those windows work. They look fantastic, as if they were designed and ordered just for your cabin. You can be sitting out on your deck facing your cabin and still enjoy the view by the reflection on the windows. So pretty. Merry Christmas to you Graeme, Liz, Reese and Rory. May you have a blessed holiday. 🎄🎄
Just the radio-voiceover part is worth the like, and the rest of the video ain't bad either. 😁 Love your vibe as you walk everyone through your project, congrats on such a great result so far.
Haters are just unsatisfied with their own life, they are just desperatly trying to redirect their own total failure onto everybody but themselves. I think you get a lot done and I enjoy your videos a lot. I'm always looking forward to your videos. Merry Christmas to you and your family. Greetings from Sweden.
I’ve watched every episode and enjoy the fact you improvise myself. Same thing I’d do. Make it work. Make it look good and make it last. Haters are everywhere.
I really enjoy watching your channel and look forward to watching every week. I appreciate the humor and showing all of your mistakes. It makes it very relatable as projects never go as planned. At least mine don't 😂
Graeme every second house in Italy has a bend in their flue, I think if it has enough of an angle you should be fine to put the stove in the corner, if you get a small pot belly you can use it to cook on too.
You can definitely put a stove pipe out through the wall and there are plenty of how to’s everywhere. If I were living my dream of living in a small cabin in the woods, I’d get another Jötul with enough room on top to cook.
Ok last one, stove in the back corner near the kitchen seems like the easier play and probably useful for some cooking, but in the middle of the living space will be so picturesque depending on stove choice.
I am not an installer of wood stoves but you rarely see them vented through a wall and up the side of a house, that being said, I recall two homes I have been in that have them vented horizontally out the wall and then up to the soffit. I would assume just keep that horizontal run as short as possible, it’ll also be a pain to clean. I think the wood stove in the middle would be the best, then you get heat on all sides to dry clothes and warm up. But that does seem like a lot more work (and money in stove pipe).
Graeme- looking at the windows now rhat there is trim, i havea thought. What if you removed the 3.5 or 4 inch wide trim and instead you used 8 or 10 inch wide boards that would cover from window to window, eliminating the need to put slivers of board between the trim pieces. But even more importantly it eould make the symmetry even easie to achieve. It would also clean uprhe angles on the top. Run the trim boards to soffit hiding the off angles
"Not enough progress in one episode." WHAT??? I wasn't aware you were punching a time clock! Keep doin' what you do, darlin'. Do what you can. Do what you feel like doing and only that! Oh, and 💩 on the haters!!! Coal in their stocking!!! Keep going!!! We love you! We'll be here! God bless you and yours!!! Merry Christmas! 🎅🎄🎁🌟 Also... You've got nothing but wide open glass surface so fudgin' the angles of the trim should work quite well!!!I do stained glass and sometimes I can fudge the frame if the piece I'm working with isn't quite perfect. If the design has swoops and curves that's easier to fake, but if I'm working with straight lines and angles those edges have to be perfect. My ex husband rebuilt a project of mine, recut pieces that were fine, then smooshed the the glass and the leading in so tight it only has one square corner, and the grid holding the bevels don't line up. I was so mad when I came home from work and saw all my work redone and ruined. I'll rebuild it one of these days. 🤷♀
Graham, it’s looking very good…. Watershed moment getting those windows in - but what a classy look! Job well done. Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year…..
Another amazing episode. I look forward to my Sunday mornings watching Woodness Goodness. Cabin is looking great entertainment value is next level progress at your own pace. Im a lifer been watching since the beginning Merry Christmas to you and your family from New Zealand fans
Silicone does literally smell like vinegar, it releases acetic acid as it cures. You might have noticed that the stronger it smells, the faster curing it is. It can cause metal to corrode though if you apply it to unpainted surfaces, that's why you have to get natural cure silicone or latex for brass and copper fixtures.
I would worry about that upper right window’s trim angle only to the extent it will make it harder to install your finish material (siding?) due to tricky cuts.
You have kind of painted yourself in a corner with all those windows but I would put the stove on that windowless wall, equally spaced between the front windows and the loft, with a wall exit. You'll be happy you did when it comes time to sweep the chimney and you can just pop off the bottom plug and run a brush up from outside.
Have the wood stove (as soon as you walk in) to the right in the corner. You don't want to have to carry wood across the cabin or take off boots every time you have to go in and out for loads of wood.
Yeah i would definitly put the stove in the Middleton Graham! Looks way better and gives a better warmth distribution all around. And dont let people pressure you haha! We are here for you!
Looks great! Don’t worry about that angle piece! It looks awesome! There’s always something that you know of but most won’t even see it🤷♀️Just tell ‘em it’s a question maker🤣🤣
Because I am lazy I would have trimmed all the front windows as one window. Using one continuous piece across the top of each side and single piece between each window rather than having the gap between the pieces of trim.
If it really bothers you, the easiest thing to do would be to drop the top of the window on the left to match the right, (obviously you'd have to glue the trim and not nail it), but I don't think anyone is going to notice, especially if it's all one color.
It amazes me how rude people can be - especially on these UA-cam channels. If the guy isn’t happy with the amount of work you do in an episode is it necessary to - A. Voice his opinion and B. Say he’s going to unsubscribe. Nobody invited you to the channel - so zip your lip and move on unannounced. Graham we all love you and your wacky sense of humour !!! Keep the episodes coming ………….
You can go thru the wall with your stove pipe I wouldn’t go thru the golden roof either. Plenty of info online for the horizontal part of the pipe how to do it safely. Center of the room would be cool but more surface area for the babies to possibly burn themselves I’d try to get it on a wall and go out the side not the top
Silicone often smells like vinegar because during the curing process, it releases a chemical called acetic acid, which has a distinct vinegar-like odor.
The way you handle that caulk is spot on! It takes a real semi amatuer professional to use the caulk they have properly! Seriously though.....there are people who actually finish projects in a single video?
Love this build, but I've never caught a reveal on just how long the trail is between the parking spot and the cabin. How much elevation gain? I'm guessing that is better than a fence at keeping out the riff-raff.
Every crew has someone who criticizes others work…till they don’t get picked up by the crew truck the next morning 😉. I think that whole front wall looks fantastic! 👊🏻 My bet is when you paint the walls and trim the darker colours you’re talking about, any small angle differences will be totally lost to the eye. It’s going to look great!
Slightly angle and oppose your trim nails to prevent future buckling or cupping of the trim. Wherever I nail I use 2 nails side by side opposed to each other.
While even a blind squirrel can tell from 2 trees away Graeme is off kilter 🙂, the windows... meh 4 outta 5 folks won't know unless ya tell them. Really the glass looks awesome, perfect for that kickazz view 👍
Normal for stove pipe is prox 3 feet over the top of the roof. If you not have the stove yet i suggest you look for a stove that have inlet air from the outdoor of your cabin. It save you a lot of wood and you do not get draft in your cabin. Wooden stove burn 30 cubic meter (10 Cubic feet) of air every hour and you dont want that cold air coming in to your ventilation and no need to use your warm air inside the house to go out throw your chimney, better use cold air from the outside. So where to put your stove shall be where to put your chimney and intake pipe for outdoor air. When using outdoor air you not using so much wood and you can save money to have a smaller stove, you save money and space. Also if you put your chimney next to center of the house its more easy to rinse the pipe on the roof and you dont need support on the outside. Dont take my comments as a complaining, i just want your project to be so good as you can and i think you doing fine. When installing the trim around door and windows you did ok with the bottom trim around your big windows but on the top trim you do not want the end of the side trim go all the way up. You want the top trim to cover the side trim so no water suck up water from the side trim end and start to rotten faster, Keep up the good work
@@WoodnessGoodness Thanks, Normal is to have top of the chimney prox 3 feet over the highest point of the roof. So install it almost in the center you do not need so much support for the chimney on the outside. If you find a nice spot not close to any wall you can take outdoor air throw a pipe down in to the floor, you do not need a wall. When buying the stove and chimney you can ask so you get a valve so you can adjust the inlet air, just as a normal stove. I been where you are now and i just try to helping out.
I say put the stove in the middle. The middle location would also heat the cabin more evenly and also into the loft as well. However, if you put the stove on that back wall, it would open up the middle of the floor for more activities!
I would put the wood stove on the wall opposite the door, semi middle-ish, shoot the pipe out the wall, then turn it up just past the eave so there is no room penetration. Still gives you some room for a chair in the corner by the front windows. Also Mr G man, those aren't loses, those are ALL opportunities for learning, so its still a WIN :-D
Just a thought. Can’t you cut the vertical trim down and add the top trim to the top of the vertical trim? It’s all getting caulk and paint anyway right?
So glad you cleaned the windows, so much nicer to watch. Could have used half the nails on the build though, pretty sure the cabin is held up by flashing tape😂
With a cabin in the woods, you’re always racing against something; winter, rain, bees, rodents. But your chill attitude and just enjoying the process is the beauty of building a cabin. ❤❤❤
You nailed it! Cheers.
YOU ARE SSSSOOOO RIGHT❤❤🎉🎉🎉🎉😊
So true! ❤

The money shot makes it look huge, but when your inside looks like it will be very cozy.

I agree 💯. I'm doing mine that way too. Through the side with a double insulated pipe.
For what it’s worth I agree with this also🥴🤣

I was so worried everytime you used the nail gun, by the windows. I kept waiting for a crack..
Good JOB!!!
The angle is only noticable to you.
Me too!🤣I was almost ready to cry with him🥴🤣🤣🤣Great job👏👏❣️
Haha yeah, I was nervous too!
My vote is for the stove in the middle.
Don’t worry about putting a 90 in the stove pipe right out of the stove if you go that route. I’ve had that set up and no issues for me
Can’t you just angle it like 45 degrees out?
Windows in to keep winter out
Always feel like I’m watching a bud I haven’t seen since undergrad when I watch
Fantastic intro voice/actor too
Lolol the voiceover switched from British to Western/Canadian. I was tickled. The quality of your videos has always impressed me. Cheers!
Thanks for the kind words! 🙏

You want the top trim to cover the side trim so no water suck up water from the side trim end and start to rotten faster, Keep up the good work
Wow thanks for all this info!!!
That’s a great idea!
I vote for this stove install…
Thanks for the inspiration and encouragement!
Windows look vedy niiiice 👌
Wow! Looks great!!
Thanks so much!
Just a thought. Can’t you cut the vertical trim down and add the top trim to the top of the vertical trim? It’s all getting caulk and paint anyway right?
Would it be easier to add trim between all the front windows so it needs no bits of siding in-between?
Probably but I’m wondering if it will look weird. We shall see!
So glad you cleaned the windows, so much nicer to watch. Could have used half the nails on the build though, pretty sure the cabin is held up by flashing tape😂
