Great summary and well made video! You really have potential to grow as a channel, keep it up mate! A suggestion: Would be amazing to have a longer version of this video where you could go into more depth. Thereby having a short summary like this to stimulate people’s interest and then having a longer video for deeper analysis.
Thank you for your comment Philip! I am glad you enjoyed the video, Perhaps in the future I may start to really get in depth with some of the videos; maybe even try a podcast one of these days!
I find Herbert Spencer's philosophy quite interesting. His moral ethics is essentially based on the survivor of the fittest. We are bound to the the strongest member of society. However, we as individuals are free to decide how we conduct ourselves as long as we do not affect the well being of others in a negative way. Rules must be set to the betterment of society lest war shall break out. Thank you for the enlightenment!
First note, Spencer was the person who came up with the term Survival of the fittest, he made note that Strongest will always survive but not that they nessisarly should. Read Spencers removed portion from Social statics. It was basically a reasoning on why Anarchy was a better system then any of the alternatives but he removed it from his book out of fear he sould be seen as an Anarchist.
I appreciate your support, and yeah I guess I haven't quite figured it out yet. But in good time I think. I have found out it's harder than it seems to get your content seen haha. Cheers friend!
Thank you for your kind words! I mean it when I say that I am ecstatic to have fans like you to watch my videos. If you have any feedback that you think would make these videos better don't hesitate to send me a DM on here or on instagram, thank you again!
It may do everyone a world of good to read and understand their opposition. I do agree that the perceived facts about human nature must be accounted for when implementing any social policy. Thanks for taking the time to watch!
Always happy to hear that my videos are reaching individuals and providing them with information which they feels is worth their time, thank you for taking the time to watch!
While this channel is focused on philosophy I would say that anything by Spencer relating to sociology is a wonderfully interesting read. Try The Principles of Sociology or Social Statics.
Sure thing, I use adobe premiere pro. It has its flaws, but I though it was relatively easy to learn the basics. I am no expert on the matter, still learning. Haven't been doing this for to long. Good luck my friend!
I agree, however it was not my intention to imply the former. I only meant to state that individuals are born with a certain socioeconomic status. Sorry for any confusion, thanks for watching!
This is interesting--and largely objective until we get to the end, when the narrator goes overboard with his praise. Spencer was not a great philosopher, but he was a philosopher, a sociologist, an ethicist, and a theorist of change. I disagree with his politics, but the idea of social institutions moving from the simple to the complex (from "an incoherent, undifferentiated homogeneity to a coherent, differentiated heterogeneity") is largely correct. Hasn't the U.S. government evolved in that direction ever since the 1790s, when, e.g., there were only three departments and one medal (the Purple Heart)? Haven't most successful organizations? Didn't, say, the Ford Motor Company, start out without any (or very few) job titles, employee benefits, and so on? Didn't their first factory most likely not have any cafeteria, much less an "HR office," vending machines, computers, or an air-conditioning system? Who knows--maybe the workers had to go across the street to a local tavern because there weren't any bathrooms. Then things gradually things got more complicated, right? Who can deny this? The fact that there are exceptions (when a company goes bankrupt it becomes simpler rather than more complex, for example) doesn't refute the validity of Spencer's fundamental social schema.
Came here cause I came to realize just now that his philosophy may have been very misunderstood in the popular mind…. Also considering he opposed the activities of British imperialism Thanks for this video, it helps in giving me a summary on the insight of what he was actually trying to say :)
He could not fathom the true meaning of life because he's not God, he's just a well educated individual who never asked for salvation. He probably felt miserable during his elderly years; I'm not saying he's miserable, knowing that the things he established never came to be, thus missing something much greater than him and all of us.
Interesting observation, and perhaps. But while he may not share our same outlook on life, and while things he said have been less than accurate, it is clear that his influence, and his achievement is something which is worth our reverence. What I find so interesting about Spencer is that he was miserable in his early years, but even through a thousand mental hurdles he kept his head down and completed countless volumes which still are with us today. Unfortunately he was among those who outlived the popularity of his work.
Does not matter. A seed was planted. As guy sensei said "it is true that not everything we wish for will come to be, bit the things we ought to do must begin with a wish". He wanted to spread this information and years ahead, it has. Just like every other genius.
When a giant comet stroke Yucatan Peninsula, all those dinosaurs(which had the most complicated and advanced biological systems) was totally annihilated. But cockroaches and micro orgasms has survived until today.
They were well adapted, but inflexible. They simply could not change within to meet the change outside. Those who survived were able to evolve and adapt quickly. Thanks for taking the time to watch the video and sharing!
His Sociology is what he is known for, and it is one of the pillars of the Western Capitalist System: one of the seminal reasons for great injustice in the World today.
Imagine a world without it. Without the Great Divergence, then the Great Convergence. Without that familiar lifespan graph. Without literacy and numeracy not only rising above the 10% it was in the classical era, but being 34.52% in the least literate country in the world. Without commerce. Without this cornucopia and emporium which mean the poorest of us can live like medieval kings. This so-callled Western Capitalist System. This so-called injustice.
ALL This knowledge and information, is Originally Egyptian. Spencer is re-stating the teachings of Ancient Egypt. He's a student of that information, not one of the founding fathers. Very good video.
I am not learned in the teachings of Ancient Egypt so I do suppose what your saying could be true. Which individual left this information behind? Thanks for taking the time to watch, cheers!
Dude, his David and Goliath conclusion is disingenuous - but his thriving left open to experiment between eschatology and logic is cool. It is this basic as to experimentation that exposes his inability to philosophize 😊
