    I have a interarms Virginian dragoon. 44 magnum. 7.5 inch barrel. Exact same date as the one in this video. It was my dad's gun he had for nearly 40 years in great shape and I got when he passed away in 2020. Great gun

    I bought one of these from my cousin 19 years ago. The finish was pretty worn but it shot great. He let me have it for $120 ! It served as my truck and bedside revolver. But work got slow- and I was raising 3 boys by myself- so I sold it to a buddy. Damn, I'd love to have all the guns I've let go of over the years !

    • @0neDoomedSpaceMarine
      @0neDoomedSpaceMarine 11 місяців тому +5

      Some manufacturing of a .357 Magnum single action revolver was made overseas in Europe for Interarms, but the .44 and .45 caliber ones were all made in the US by Interarms themselves.
      They're pretty robust and well put together guns, though be wary that some of the very earliest ones can have very shoddy bores, as in you could be looking at one which is supposed to be a .44, yet a .429 caliber projectile just rattles down through it without stopping. The vast majority of the Virginian Dragoons are perfectly good to go, but if one finds one with a bad barrel, it should either be rebarreled or be stripped down for spare parts for the other revolvers.

      @@michaelschweimler7292 I worked at the Midland, Virginia manufacturing facility in the late 70s. I was a bluer, those vats of acid baths ruined most of my clothes. There was some type of regulation that required the company to have a factory in the states, so they built one.

    I had one once in .45 Colt. It was blued with a color case hardened frame and performed beautifully. I ended up selling it because I don't like adjustable sights. I have never regretted selling a handgun more. It was built like a Tiger tank, and never failed to fire and I never had a single problem with it. There are many floating around in .44 magnum that are in good shootable condition, but I'll never find another in .45, they're as rare as hen's teeth.

I took it on a lot of adventures. And Killed a number of rattlesnakes. after several years I sold it because it was just too long. It didn't fit anywhere comfortably and was so unhandy. He traded his first one off to a neighbor for a trailer, but having regrets about letting it go, went and found him another one. As I recall, his was case hardened, with blued cylinder and barrel. I shot it one time at deer camp and found it to be very accurate and not unpleasant to shoot to due it's considerable weight. Watched this earlier from another account. Always love your vids. That's a cool revolver - I remember hearing about them - always being compared to Ruger's Super Blackhawk. My current 44 Mag revolver is a Taurus Tracker - love it but I miss the Rugers I once had... might have to solve that. Or maybe a Virginian! Thanks for anther great review and shoot vid!

    I have one in Blue back in 1978, it was made in 1976 and had “ We The People “ on the butt. Mine had a over length cylinder pin, with 2 positions- further in was a hammer safety. Without loctite mine would disassemble itself in about 20 shots.

    Agreed, the Virginia Dragoon is nice! 👍 And, since I'm not "some people" I absolutely love it when you blow up a can of hominy. That's a much better use of hominy in my view than regarding it as people food. As a bonus, it becomes a treat for wildlife. Win.✔ Win.✔ Win.✔

    Had a Virginia Dragoon and a S&W Model 29...8 3/8 Barrel
    I sold the 29 about 20 yrs ago and kept the Virginia Dragoon a few years longer.
    The Dragoon was a smoothly handling gun because of the Grips.
    Those Cowboy type Grips would roll down in your hand during Firing lessening Recoil,...where the Model 29 the Recoil came right back into your Palm....and you felt it.
    I traded the Dragoon in on a 1903 Springfield, because the place doing my .44 Mag and .44 Spl Reloads, stopped Reloading because of Insurance reasons.
    The one other thing I remember was the word
    " Liberty" engraved on the metal on the bottom of the Grip.

    I was glad to see that many of your viewers own a Virginian Dragoon. I am going to be using my pair of VD stainless Liberty Forever 5 inch .357 Mag units to do some Cowboy Action Shooting. Mine are standard models more like the Colt design without the adjustable rear sight or ramped front sight. They are a "little big", heavy and slow but so am I. Cowboy .38 SPL in them is easy to shoot and they look nice next to my stainless Rossi 92.

    I've owned one of those in blue steel and they are good pistols. Another good pistol is the EAA Bounty Hunter. I own 5 of them in .44 mag. If I just had the 7.5" blued version I would own every model of .44 mag they produce. The Bounty Hunter safely carries 6 rounds as they pay a royalty to Ruger to use a clone of their transfer bar safety. Got a Taylor's and Co. Cattleman in .44 mag. It's a 6" blued SAA copy made by Pietta in Italy and it is unique in that it has a firing pin mounted on the hammer but unless the trigger is fully depressed the firing pin sinks slightly into the hammer which keeps it from resting on the primer of the cartridge below it allowing you to safely carry 6 rounds. Going to look into a Traditions 1873 Frontier in .44 mag with 7.5" blued barrel and color case hardened frame. Buds has them with 4.75", 5.5" besides the 7.5" already mentioned and they run I believe around $589. your choice, delivered + tax and whatever your FFL dealer charges. Only drawback is they are not safe for 6 like your Virginian Dragoon, firing pin rest directly on primer. Thanks for a great video muchacho. Nice shooting as always!

    Dan. some people sneer at the Virginian Dragoon, however, I found them to be a quality pistol, I don't see whare buying a Ruger single action has much advantage. I believe it is a "Name" thing. Way back the first .44 Mag I had was a Lamma, Here is the kicker, it came with 1000 pieces of brass. I shot, and shot, and shot that revolver and it never gave me any trouble, again it wasn't a fine Smith M-29, however it was early matrimony priced and started a long respect for the .44. this was another great Video, be careful out there, peace - Dave

    • @0neDoomedSpaceMarine
      @0neDoomedSpaceMarine 11 місяців тому +1

      The main sneering about the Virginian Dragoon was that the early production was just really shoddy, bad and oversized bores is something you could see on really early ones. They fixed up their production though and eventually turned them into a quality revolver which shoots very straight, and most of the Virginian Dragoons are good guns.
      These revolvers are more or less equal to a Ruger Blackhawk, comparable in build strength and everything, so they can handle some very hot loads just fine.

      @@0neDoomedSpaceMarine I Heard the same thing about Interarms early production when they started producing firearms here in the States, I was only making that comment off of the ones that I seen and had a chance to shoot or saw in the guncase down at the gunshop. they were priced as entry level pistols from what I saw. Dans example is really nice coming from that standpoint. anyway Peace dude - Dave

    That is as fine a hunk of steel as I've seen in a long while. The patent may have something to do with the placement of the ejector rod and its shroud on the opposite side from an SAA, the two dimples for indexing the empty chamber, and the frame-mounted firing pin. The screws on the L side are flat-headed countersink-style, which is also a departure. Otherwise, it resembles a Colt New Frontier. I wouldn't turn either one of those away if it came a' knocking at my door. That Dragoon would qualify for our short-range weapons only deer seasons and game management units, but I'd say that at 50 and maybe on out to 100 yards, you or your son would give old Butch and Sundance reason enough to wish they'd chosen another line of work. Fun and interesting video, as usual. Pumpkins are fun and the critters clean up the seeds and "guts" virtually overnight. Cheers.

    • @mixup98
      @mixup98  11 місяців тому +1
